Nerwin Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Alright, This is a tough one.....What I want to do, Is to redirect a website to go to another website.Like, if someone types in www.myspace.com it goes to like www.google.com or something like that. Now, I do know this is possible, cause my networking teacher said it was and it just requires some hacking or configuring or something... and, I really want to do this cause it will be really funny to play this trick on my brother!! Thanks guys!!!!!
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 the file you are looking for is called the hosts file and its located inC:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etcthere will be a line that says127.0.0.1 localhostthe first # is the IP address of the site you want to redirect to and the second is the site to redirect fromjust add a line (or lines) below that64.233.167.147 myspace.comthat will redirect myspace.com to 64.233.167.147(google)just do me a favor and keep it nice (don't redirect him to porn)another fun trick is to take a screenshot of the desktop, set it as wallpaper and turn off desktop icons and autohide the startmenu to the right side of the screen
Nerwin Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Thanks dude!!, Nah, He has Myspace and I dont like myspace and he should not be using it, cause it get to you.. and plus, I'm trying to be a network admin.. so yeah but it will be funny! thanks again man!!!
Nerwin Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 I did, Try it and it works like www.myspace.com, if I go type myspace.com, it goes to google, but if it type www.myspace.com it goes to myspaceis there another way, that will map that HTTP one to google or something?
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 yeah you should be able to use 64.233.167.147 www.myspace.com64.233.167.147 myspace.com
Idontwantspam Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 To do this on a larger scale, which is way overkill for what you're doing, but schools and businesses use a squid server. I think it can do stuff like that.
PC_LOAD_LETTER Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 yeah we have 2 blades running ubuntu fiesty with dansguardian.which reminds me -i need to upgrade them to gutsy
