XLS to tab delimited txt

Excel can do the conversion but I dont know how to get excel to do a batch convert (from CMD or otherwise) or even if that is even possible. Is there some other utility out there that will do this. For my purposes I am not sure CSV would work, I have seen a utility that does that, but when you try to force it to do a batch conversion it crashes, but again for my purposes I really need txt. Any thoughts.

There are a number of programs more or less called "xls2csv" or "xlstocsv", some are Commercial, some are Freeware.

Last time I needed one I used this:

but they were a number of simple files, your mileage may vary.

I have tried xls2csv, and it works for a one by one attempt, but when I try to do a batch attempt it just crashes. I might try the VB though.
