Building a very LITE WinXP

Hi ppl!

For some time I've been trying to build a XP installation that would be as light as possible, without any of those generic application that came with winXP. Problem is that by removing stuff from XP using a nLite, I haven't managed to get stable installation version.

The things I've kicked out and results:

- windows drivers - as a result of moving this, every once a while a popup windows came with this massage "please insert windows xp cd containing drivers". By pressing ok, cancel or ignore, same thing happens - nothing and windows continue like nothing happened. So, problem is only irritating

- windows built in software for sending your information to microsoft - by removing this, windows didn't want to install at all; after first reboot during a installation, an error on BSOD came up and installation was over. Not a good idea to kick out, but a question is why can it be moved at all if a windows without it doesn't even want to install?

other options more or less didn't cause windows to react...

anyway, the thing I'm hope to do is a windows installation without any integrated MS application and drivers, or anything that I'll never use, and that in finish it will all work flawlessly, and which is updated with latest hotfixes and necessary OS improvments. So, any help on this topic?

also, if i'm unavare of a custom winxp installation that meets my demands and it is out there to download, please enlighten me with it's name.

1. I never heard of such a thing, are you sure that it required drivers and it wasn't just files, the popular SFC / WFP popup?

Did you disable SFC in the Options - Patches? If you haven't do it.

2. is this Error reporting?

I don't have any issues with it, if you ask me you can remove all components except IE Core and it will run 99% of stuff out there.

Do you mean the screen where it asks you to find a certain file for a driver if it is missing?

Also, ive done the same as nuhi but removed everything except NETLOGON and windows installed/worked fine

Printscreens/Screenshots would be very useful :)
