anyweb Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 hi, i've managed to get Vista Ultimate 32bit to install using BDD 2007, however I have one remaining issue and that is adding hotfixes or Windows Updates to the installation,If I take any of the updates found in C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and try to add them as a Package in the Deployment Workbench, it correctly identifies the KBxxxxxx update, and lists it, however when I then PXE boot and do a LTI (litetouch installation) about half way through the file copying phase BDD errors out with a null error or 0x0000001F.If I remove said package the installation will work fine but then once done proceeds to download approximately 350MB of updates from Microsoft, how can I do this correctly ?here's a sample of those updates from the folder I mentioned aboveVolume in drive C is vista Volume Serial Number is B4AE-694F Directory of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download01/09/2007 11:48 <DIR> .01/09/2007 11:48 <DIR> ..10/08/2007 14:04 <DIR> 02db2ac8c922887d038a8aa5928e89c110/08/2007 13:55 <DIR> 0b6979f79cd3bfa0ff0c4203e97b135e10/08/2007 13:39 <DIR> 35326f8fc2784fdc71b585869c9944a810/08/2007 13:58 <DIR> 4247ee81d83ae9d7e3fa1853ec434edf10/08/2007 13:41 <DIR> 4fb86837659a6aa4d2dff633e04594a011/05/2007 03:04 <DIR> 5e60b51d5e34604bb9a853056a434dff10/08/2007 13:47 <DIR> 66fbbbd297b40407cd59be063338366b11/05/2007 03:04 <DIR> 80bf7b0fc53a4b3aa5197980223e97fa10/08/2007 13:55 <DIR> 9c50f58c375d536720c74a564e5e3daa28/11/2006 16:55 11,624 a79bcfc22f1d4c15ae4840c3d535bd203a0a750609/08/2007 18:54 4,568,984 b93c3fad45af7d76506902ca6e7e2b721319964310/08/2007 13:35 <DIR> bce56abf692fe8b0d7d2616f825d5cb410/08/2007 13:51 <DIR> be10c0f067845c13b2a633b56ceca78710/08/2007 13:48 <DIR> ce743c5f48a4657d14fb18ae8248dfcb10/08/2007 14:09 <DIR> e42e4bc045dc6d70ee2a82945b8884c404/07/2007 01:35 486,872 e54054e7e33002f98ba44ddcfef419359217ca3b10/08/2007 13:51 <DIR> e5d7e0d4b9e28621018f12aa829215ae10/08/2007 14:01 <DIR> ed070508532904e9582c3a6ea0158e9a10/08/2007 13:59 <DIR> f09a080c08e749c020db43b9acdd123501/09/2007 11:48 0 list.txt 4 File(s) 5,067,480 bytes 18 Dir(s) 8,969,404,416 bytes freeAm I doing this the wrong way ? is the Windows Vista Media I'm using part of the problem ? anyweb Posted September 3, 2007 Author Posted September 3, 2007 is this possible dudes and if so how ?every time i do a test BDD install on one of these laptops i get 35 updates applied and we're talking on a home ADSL connection, which kinda sucks,i'd like to push these updates out during the install if possible, or after, but as i've said before, when i add them to the 'packages' section in bdd, it crashes the install.pls helpcheersanyweb
anyweb Posted September 4, 2007 Author Posted September 4, 2007 (edited) ok i've figured it out,i was using downloaded files that vista itself had downloaded via windows update (automatically)those file names had files such as eg: Windows6.0-KB905866-v10-x86-EXPRESS.cabthey won't work with BDD 2007, what you need to do is google for the KB number above, and download the MSU file instead (eg: Windows6.0-KB931573-x86.msu), and then import the MSU file in BDD 2007,then when you pxe boot to the server, you'll be prompted in windows PE to select packages (such as language packs)before selecting the applications to install, the msu files you added in the workbench will be neatly laid out in your bdd 2007 distribution folder something like thisDirectory of E:\Distribution\Packages09/04/2007 03:32 PM <DIR> .09/04/2007 03:32 PM <DIR> ..09/04/2007 03:23 PM <DIR> HotFix09/04/2007 01:17 PM <DIR> LanguagePack09/04/2007 03:23 PM <DIR> SecurityUpdate09/04/2007 03:23 PM <DIR> Updatewith each sub-folder having it's hotfixes and patches etc.ok thats great, at least I know now how it works, however, one last question, how can i DISABLE windows vista from automatically looking for updates using BDD 2007 ?anyone know ?cheersanyweb Edited September 4, 2007 by anyweb
