Idontwantspam Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Hmm, are you saying you have lost your password and reset disk? Or do you just want to know "for future reference"? There are ways to do this, but first I'm just curious, why? And by the way, welcome to MSFN! I hope you enjoy your stay.
IcemanND Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 There is no easy way to recover the password, unless it is less than 4 characters long. But there are numerous ways to reset or whack the password offline.check out the similar topics list at the bottom of the page you'll find your answer there, along with searching the forums.
gosh Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 I assume he wants the password reset disk because it has a copy of his encryption key that will enable him to decrypt his files. If it's just a password issue, you can just reset the registry and you'll log in with the old pw. The pw should be in the sam as a secret in the system hive.-gosh
Idontwantspam Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Yeah, I meant there are ways to reset your password, but anything encrypted with EFS will be lost, as well as any stored IE passwords.
tinyOSlover Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Yeah, I meant there are ways to reset your password, but anything encrypted with EFS will be lost, as well as any stored IE passwords.Sorry, does it mean that there's no way to recover the previously encrypted files & folders ?
cluberti Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 It's not impossible, but you can't do it with the standard tools if you no longer have the EFS recovery key.http://www.beginningtoseethelight.org/efsrecovery/http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223316
