Decker87 Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 Well, after about three years on my last install, I was having zero problems until I got a single virus that pretty much canned it. I couldn't even boot up. I had another HD laying around so I plugged that in, told my Mobo to boot to it, and installed a fresh copy of windows on there. I still have my non-bootable HD plugged in and I can read most of the files. The catch is, I can't read any files from my main account on that HD because permission is denied. But I can't log in as that user either. Hrmph! That's where I kept a huge amount of data. What can I do now?
Ponch Posted August 29, 2007 Posted August 29, 2007 1)Log as Administrator or an account that has Admin rights, 2)Check in Folders View Options (in Windows Explorer) that "Use Simple File Sharing" is unticked.3) right-click your old account folder and check the Security tab, check for advanced settings the Owner pane, set yourself as the new folder owner. 4)Give yourself rights on that folder and make sure subfolders inherit rights. That should do it.
