noguru Posted August 10, 2007 Posted August 10, 2007 Win98 won't handle 512 Mb ram or more very good. There are a lot's of topic's on this forum about that, search for vcache if you want to know more. But what you need to do is very simple:Add this to system.ini[vcache]MaxFileCache=524288If you still have problems you can try 393216, this seems to work better for me, I have 512Mb.You can set your video memory in your system BIOS.
puntoMX Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 i got an integrated video card.how do i increase the video memory?Like noguru said, use 512MB max. for Windows98se.To set your Video RAM go into the BIOS of your computer and set it there by hand. Some can be set from 8 to 256MB but most go as far as 64 to 128MB.If you tell us what chipset it´s using we can help you further .
bloo Posted August 11, 2007 Author Posted August 11, 2007 thnx guys.not yet tried yet though.well where will i get info on my chipset?
bloo Posted August 11, 2007 Author Posted August 11, 2007 well the max video memory i can select in bios is only 32mbwat to do
Kelsenellenelvian Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Yeah take a ramstick out. Or search the forums for how to optimize 98 for more than 512 megs ram.You CANNOT increase your shared video more than that.Honestly 32 megs is more than enough for 98se if your not gaming or doing graphics. It is the amount of ram you are using or your ram has gone bad. Also run this --> http://hcidesign.com/memtest/ and see if you get any errors. (Let it run for a long time)
bloo Posted August 13, 2007 Author Posted August 13, 2007 i looked 4 that on the sitebut cud not find itboth the memories r fine
MDGx Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 Sounds like your mobo BIOS setup is limited to 32 MB video "shared" memory, which is taken from system RAM and "shared" with your AGP video controller [must be AGP, PCI can't share memory, and PCIe (PCI express) works in a different way].IMO = 2 solutions:1. Go to your mobo vendor/manufacturer web/ftp site and download + install the current BIOS firmware upgrade for your specific mobo.It might give you more options to increase the amount of video memory beyond 32 MB.2. If #1 not available, ask a programmer friend who knows low level hardware programming to hex your BIOS firmware and try to add more options (if possible). But this is not as easy as it seems, and is potentially *risky*, it can fry your computer mobo if not done right.my 2 ¢HTH [Hope This Helps]
