Rhor Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Greetings.I cannot access Windows Update with my customized XP. What I have to do is to use "Dial-a-Fix" to correct the problem.Attached is my configuration file. Please, take a look at it, and let me know what it is wrong. The Windows Update page tells me that I have the services BITS and Event Log deactivated, but manually fixing it doesnt work either.Thank You in advance.Last_Session.ini
Rhor Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 I've doing some test on a virtual machine, and everything works if those three services are set to "Automatic" (BITS, Event Log and Automatic Updates). And before that, I had BITS and Automatic Updates set to "Manual", and back then, Windows Updates didnt work properly. Are the "Manual" setting the real cause for my problem?
Legolash2o Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 on mine....Automatic Updates = AutomaticBITS = ManualEvent Log = Manual there all default and Windows Update and Microsoft Update works fine

Sancho Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Yes, setting either one or sometimes both AU and BITS services to Manual can cause it to fail. This is extremely retarded and nonsensical, but it's the case.Normally you only need to set Automatic Updates to auto, but just the other day I needed to change the BITS to auto as well (on XP).
Rhor Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 Thank you kindly for your responses.I tried what you said, and everything works as it should.Again, Thank you.
