Guest AcerBandit Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 I've been testing nlite out for a couple days. Nothing extremely fancy, just as many windows updates packed in, driver packs using dpbase, some visual tweaks, and getting rid of a few other annoying things that Windows XP always throws at you.Now somehow during all that I managed to screw up the systray. It doesn't display the little arrow button that allows you to see the icons in the systray. I'm looking at my nlite Taskbar tweaks and I have Disable Language-Bar, Disable Windows Tour popup, and Lock the Taskbar "Yes" set. I don't see anything in there that should make the systray hide/unhide systray icons button disappear.Right now it looks like this:And I want it to look like this:What do I have to do in nlite or what file do I have to edit so that my systray acts the way it's supposed to when I install XP?The second thing I'd like to ask are a few questions on the Start Menu.Every time you create a new user it ALWAYS puts shortcuts to Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Remote Assistance, and Windows Media Player in that user's Start Menu\Programs folder. It's annoying because I have a way of organizing the Start Menu. I make a folder in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs for Internet & Security, Media, and Utilities and I just pile their corresponding shortcuts and folders into them so that all users have a great, organized Start Menu All Programs section. I don't like that the next person to create an account on the computer automatically gets Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, and Windows Media Player shortcuts in their All Programs section. I'd soon as just not have those shortcuts not created at all and have a nice Start Menu Programs folder included on the install DVD with all the extra install files I put on there.Again, every time you add a new user the Start Menu has a list of default programs:I don't want to see Windows Media Player, Windows Movie Maker, MSN, Windows Messenger, Tour Windows XP, Files and Settings Transfer Wizard, etc. in there at all. I'd rather the thing be blank and start filling up as users start actually using programs be it Word, Firefox, foobar, whatever. I don't want those default Windows programs in there at all. I want it to fill up with items that users actually use.And finally not that I need this one since users sometimes don't like it but it's a good nugget of information to have... how do I have the quicklaunch toolbar on by default?I'd really like to be able to do all this using nLite or editing some file that will go onto the XP Install DVD that I'm making if any of that is possible. I can live without the Start Menu stuff but the systray thing is pretty crucial. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you. =)))
Guest AcerBandit Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 (edited) Okay, I feel like an id***. The systray doesn't start showing that arrow until you have like 5 or so items in it. Guh.I'd still like to know if it's possible to do those things I asked about in the Start Menu. This place censors the word "id"_"iot"? Weird. =/ Edited July 19, 2007 by AcerBandit

Guest AcerBandit Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 yer gonna need to browse through the available visual and menu tweaks in nlite.......Okay, I'll take a look at those sections once I finish burning this dvd but could you be a little more specific please?
Guest AcerBandit Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 My questions have still not been answered. That's really too bad. I'll try again. Persistence! =OIf you look above you'll see that Internet Explorer, Outlook Express, Remote Assistance, and Windows Media Player are in the Start Menu's Program folder by default. They are created every time a new user is created. I don't want those shortcuts to be created AT ALL. If you take a look at the picture you can see that I have a way I like organizing and those shortcuts being created are both redundant and unnecessary as I have those shortcuts already sorted the way I want.I'd really like to know how to make it so those items don't appear. Any help would be very appreciated. =)
