  1. I could not find any Help related service under the Admin Tools/Services control panel. It appears to be missing? Also, I attached my setuperr.log There appears to be a few errors in there setuperr.txt
  2. Okay here's the deal. it turns out i DO have all the help files on my system and in their correct places. but when i try to click on helpctr.exe myself, it says a system service is not running, and it says to start the service called "Help and Support." what is this service they're talking about? is it permanently removed somehow? can i start it now or do i need to reinstall windows..again.
  3. hey "i'm not ophiel" i tried using the sfc hack, and the uility said that it checked out okay, but i immediately got a WFP dialogue, and when i checked the dll in system32, it still says Microsoft on it. i think the ulility only tries to replace the dll in system32 and not its backup dll. windows keeps replacing the hacked one with the backup file.
  4. Here's my last_session file. Is it possible to just get the help file from someone else though? Last_Session.ini
  5. Hey man, Thanks a bunch for the link but the files won't download. It looks like an awesome program, and I can't wait to try the XP tweak thing. When I click on either of the SFC links, it shows a bunch of random characters in the browser window (Firefox and IE), and when I right click and save as, it offers to save it as a html document only. If you could fix that up it'd be great =)
  6. Has anyone tried the hacked dll? If you don't know what I'm talking about, check out my thread by the same name.... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=77293 I think I'll give that a shot. If it doesn't work, I'm going to reformat/reinstall again but using the regular Windows...because as minor a problem as it seems, the whole WFP dialogue thing really does ruin the nLite experience for me.
  7. I'm 100% sure that during my nLite cd creation process I didn't screw around with removing Windows Help and Support...however...when I click on the icon in my start menu it says it cannot find "helpctr.exe". Apparently it didn't get installed with my nLite'd Windows. How can I add Help and Support? Is it as easy as obtaining helpctr.exe and copying it to the right directory?
  8. Hey thanks TD but I think I'm having a problem. I downloaded and extracted the DLL...and then made a backup of the one in the System32 folder...and each time I tried to back it up, Windows would create a NEW sfc_os.dll in its place...so I tried replacing the Windows one with the hacked one...and then I run my mouse over it and in the details it has Microsoft Corporation as the company...the hacked DLL didn't have that in it's description when I checked it out. Does Winodws not let you replace the dll? It seems to me that it keeps creating a fresh one whenever you try to modify it/replace it.
  9. so i just went through the whole reformat process on my laptop and installed with my newly created nLite cd. everything has been great except i got that one dialogue that asks you to put in your windows xp service pack 2 cd to restore some files because of windows file protection. i didn't include a hacked file in my nLite cd to turn off WFP (i didn't even know they existed) i've only gotten that dialogue once, and basically i want to know if it's a big deal that i have WFP...should i go through the whole process again with a hacked file or something? i'd rather not have to reformat and reinstall all over again.
  10. So I'm a real newbie to the whole custom Windows setup disc thing, and so far it seems great if not for the odd techniques required for some things to work. For exmaple, I'm going to reinstall Windows on my laptop using an nLite disc and everything. I would like to include on this disc the drivers from my laptop's driver disc that came with the laptop. There are actually updated drivers from the HP website, but I don't even know where to begin with those. They come in .exe format, and when viewed through Winrar they contain all sort of files. Just the ATI one alone (which is not the Catalyst drivers, it is the HP released driver) has an assortment of files and I have no idea which ones I actually need. Is there an even easier guide available for people who aren't even ready for the guides listed in this forum? Because these guides seem to assume you know which files and ini's you need to include. I don't even know where to begin.
