  1. Has anyone attempted to make a loopback device with an led on it? I've seen the linkchecker's you can buy but they are about 30-40$
  2. I dont have a home network, computers i buy get stolen. I have 2 monitors, 2 keyboard, and a mouse. I also have 5-6 network cables. I gave away my wireless AP because I had no use in it. Ghetto ey?
  3. That would p*** me off having to resize and reposition windows, rather then drag to one desktop and full screen. I reckon a 30" would be bad for your eyes, because its going to be focused on a screen too much with out a background. Now that cannot be good. You'll turn into a real square eyes.
  4. interpic.org is avaliable too...quick jump before some other hooligan here gets it.
  5. I reckon i'd still go with two monitors, it seperates the screens. I wouldnt have room to put too much on one of my desks at work. 2 17" monitors for dual screen, 1 mac with 17" monitor right next to that, then the printer on one side, and scanner on the other. Looks fancy though. Gotta love it when places burn down and you get new s***.
  6. I prefer 2 17" over 1 30", the divider i find is good, makes a multi-desktop interface, rather then a large desktop. Works wonders in many environments. 1. Programming - Main code in 1 monitor, reference matterial (header file, notes, etc) in the other - Main code in 1 monitor, testing in the other - Main code in 1 monitor, GUI in the other 2. System Admin - Your desktop in 1 monitor, VNC/RDP to server(s) in the other. (or for me AD in 1 90% of the day, my desktop in the other) - Your desktop in 1 monitor, monitoring/management software in the other. (very easy to tell when something breaks, w/o watching 24/7 coz the status is right next to you) 3. Tech Support - Docs/Issue Report in 1 monitor, VNC/RDP to client in the other I work at two different sites, 1 site I have 2 17" monitors, I love it, but unfortunately my boss at the other site has just ordered me a 22" monitor w/o asking me if I want one, so now i'm going from 1 17" to a 22" when i'd rather 2 17" which is cheaper.
  7. I am trying to setup machines using the network distribution share method, however there is one thing which anoys me about this method when the temporary files are stored on the current HDD, you are unable to format this partition when the machine reboots. So instead I wish to make a program or a script which will remove the additional parts which the installer does not remove when you ask it to remove the previous version of Windows XP, but I need to find the ideal place to do this, somewhere when after it copies the temporary files and restarts, then I can run my program or script, or is there a way to do this with-in DetachProgram but with out removing the stuff which is already installed from the new installation. Can I freeze the installation and resume it while this is being done?
  8. I am currently trying to build an image which uses network install with winnt32.exe how ever, there is one thing which anoys me about this method of installation is that all old files remain on the hdd, has anyone built a script which clears the hdd out, or got any suggestions, because I wish to run a network install. But i do not wish to use RIS because we have currently got Terminals setup to use PXE Boot, so suggestions please? I was at one point debating going with a sysprep image, but then issues occur with drivers, and hal's
  9. Yes, it does come down to the complexity of the program which you are trying to address, I just wish to find a more effective method, because there is nearly 30min-1hr spent just installing software for the install which I have created, so I'm looking at simplier methods where it is not copying the same thing two or more times
  10. I have seen very limited programs which people have suggested installing on one computer then moving program files to $Progs and other files to $Docs, why is this method not used? Is there something wrong with it? Fair enough its going to require a fair bit of work getting all the right files from $progs and $docs, and also alot of work monitoring which files go where. But with the use of tools like Sysinternals filemon and regmon or even finding some way to check out what happens during the install scripts, you should be able to work it out.. Because running this method would increase install time largely
