Hi Desktop Server XP Pro to post SP2 Laptop Client XP Pro to post SP2 The tick has been removed from Use simple file sharing on both machines I have managed to get a VPN connection working fine.I can see all Shared folders on the server. My problem now is i get a win Logon password request (the User-name space is grayed out. If i take the tick out of Use Simple file sharing, the User-name box is available) when i try to open a shared folder. I have checked the security permissions, for the folder, and all seems correct. No matter which user-name or password i use, nothing is accepted. Do i need to alter settings in secpol.msc Thanks for any help with this.
  7. Hi Thanks for the replies. I never spotted the quotes , Sorry RyanVM my mistake for leaving out all the personal info in the first post. Thanks
  8. Hi I have sorted the problem. there was a space between my first and second names. I removed the space and it works fine [userData] ProductID=xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx FullName=TxxxxxHxxxxxxxx OrgName= ComputerName=DELL8300 It seems not to matter if ProductId or ProductKey is used, i tried both and both work! So, this means that in windows System properties/General/registered to: my names have no space between them! So to avoid having to edit the registery, what do i have to do to the winnt.sif file. Thanks
  9. Hi thanks for the reply Thats weird, because the winnt.sif is copied from a working unattended CD (SP2 slipstreamed). I will change the line and post back. Thanks

  11. Hi When trying to send an email, I get a Microsoft Office Word error Message which states Unspecified error! As part of my efforts to find a solution I tried the following: All emails have an html signature, if I remove the signature I get a Microsoft Office Word error message which states Interface not registered. I have tried doing a repair of Office, and also have uninstalled and reinstalled Office. I have tried 4 System restores. And in desperation even reverted back to an Acronis Backup image stored on a separate Hard drive. I can send and receive using the same account in Outlook Express, so I no there is nothing wrong with the mail account settings. Can anybody help with this please. Thanks

  13. Hi Thanks for the replies. Sorry for forgetting the Tags Sonic. It seems i have lost them as i did not use Windows Backup utillity in the first place, i just do manual Copy & paste Backups. Thanks
  14. Hi XP Pro I have a backup Hard Drive, and i cannot Access Files in one of the folders I have checked that i am the owner of the Volume, folders, and all files. The folder was encrypted, and i was able to remove the encryption. I am not able to remove the encryption from any files within the folder. i am unable to open the files also. I am able to delete the Folder and files. I have checked the Folder/Files Security, Permissions and Ownership, and all seems to be set correctly. The Volume is 120GB in size, with 90GB used. I do not have any problems with anything else on the Volume. Can you confirm that taking Ownership at the Volume level, means that all folders/files within are owned (with a tick in replace owner on sub-containers and objects) The Hard drive is a clone of a Previous Smaller Hard drive, and the folder was encrypted before i cloned the new hard drive. Should i have removed the encryption from the folder before cloning? Thanks Please NOW in Microsoft Windows XP section, use [TAGS] in your topic's title. See rules --Sonic
  15. Hi I sure as hell don't think Dells got a problem with it. Its me (with contributions from the forum) thats spent the last couple of days trying to find out why my winnt.sif file was not working, when all along it was. I have just created a new XP+SP1&2.iso with my original winnt.sif file (with of course the Amended UnattendSwitch answer), and used it to install on the Gateway machine, and the OOBE appeared.
  16. Hi have just come off the phone from Microsoft Support, and they tell me that is is the lack of Graphics drivers that is stopping the OOBE from appearing, apparently it wont work at 640x480.
  17. Hi Well, i think it might have, because i have just used the same disc in an old Gateway 500, and at last i have the OOBE. Now this machine has an Nvidia 64mb graphics card, and the drivers are included in XP. Can anybody else think of an explanation for this.
  18. Hi Sorry i took so long to reply, needed to try out various things. Last night i used my original XP Pro CD, no SP1 or 2, and no winnt.sif file. I did a full Format as part of the installation There was no OOBE at the end of installation, it just goes straight to the Administrator Desktop, i am given no choice to set up user accounts. is this something to do with the fact that, the graphics drivers for the machine are not included with XP, so the graphics are set to 640x 480 This is all being tried out on a Dell 2400, and the graphics are integrated, and there is no AGP slot. What i am trying to say is does the OOBE depend on Graphics. Thanks
  19. Hi I have just created another winnt.sif file (using setup manager) and made another iso, and still the OOBE does not appear. If the UnattendSwitch is not entered, shouldnt the default kick in, and the OOBE appear. I have tried it with it, without it, =Yes, =No, none of it makes a difference, the thing does not appear. This is as bad as when i first learnt how to do an unattended, then i couldnt get rid of the thing, now i want it back, it wont appear. I know the little ******* is there somewhere! HELP! ;SetupMgrTag [Data] AutoPartition=1 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemPreinstall=No TargetPath=\WINDOWS OemSkipEula=Yes WaitForReboot=No [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=* EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 [userData] ProductID= FullName="" OrgName="" ComputerName= [TapiLocation] CountryCode=44 Dialing=Tone AreaCode=01827 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 SystemLocale=00000809 UserLocale=00000809 InputLocale=0809:00000809 [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=Yes
  20. Hi Thanks for the reply. I have already tried the default unattend.txt ( see first post) I have tried lots of different answers, but still i dont get the OOBE. Could you check out my first post, and see what you think is wrong. Thanks
  21. Hi Thanks for your help gunsmokingman. Seeing how i am unable to sort this out, using a XP-SP2 iso. Have gone back to basics, i have created a XP-SP1 iso, and used this winnt.sif file created using nLite, and still i do not get the OOBE section at the end of installation. 23. Hi Below is the winnt.sif i am using, and according to the info on this page http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/reference.htm#guirunonce The OOBE should appear at the end of installation, but it doesn't. Can somebody help please. The disk i am using includes SP2 Its ironic that when i first learnt how to do an Unattended, it took me ages to find out how to get rid of the OOBE, now i want it back i cant get it.
