  1. Is it possible to incorporate Microsoft Update as the default update within Windows XP? (ie. is there anything you can download that will change updates from Windows update to Microsoft Update)?
  2. I have a strange issue with a customer regarding HP 6730b laptops which are running Windows XP SP3. A problem arises when you enabled 'LAN/WAN Switching' in the BIOS (this prevents the WIFI & NIC to be used at the same time) When you try to put the computer into Standby or Hibernation, occasionally, you get a message saying the Intel WIFI Link 5100 AGN device is preventing the computer entering standby/hibernation' I've tried using the supplied HP Drivers and also the latest drivers from the Intel website including using Intel PROSet software. If the 'LAN/WAN Switching' is disabled we don't get the problem. Obviously this narrows the issue down but does anyone know of a fix or workaround for this behaviour? Have tried suggestions around power settings and keeping the LAN/WIRELESS card on at all times, to no avail.
  3. Just tried Start_SearchInternet, no good! Search Box is still there on the start menu
  4. Is it possible to remove the Search Box from the Start Menu? (Vista Business SP1) I've tried various registry entries; HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Start_ShowSearch:00000000 but without any success. Can anyone help?
  5. I used ripprep to create the image of a new HP nc6400 Laptop the CIW (client installation wizard) went okay until it got to the Installing Networking Components screen. It hung at "Please wait while Windows installs networking components screen". It took 10 minutes to pass this step. Not sure why. Has anyone seen this before? Other laptops are OK.
  6. I have several RISPREP Images on my Windows 2003 Server that all work ok. I now have the problem where I need to update the local administrator's group with a new domain group. Is there any way of editing the images or any of the RIS SIF files so that I can add new groups to the local SAM prior/during RIS build?

  8. Once a riprep image has been created, is it possible to add a domain account to the local administrators group either by modifying the image on the ris server or adding the account in riprep.sif?
  9. There is nothing specific in the sysprep.inf, I'm only trying to install 'Typical Settings' using DHCP to get ip address etc..
  10. Using 2003 RIS Server to deploy XP SP2 image (with all drivers installed) Image deploys ok to machine but when the 'mini-setup', sysprep runs for the first time it takes upto 9 mins for windows to install the network components. After this long pause, the machine successfully joins the domain. The machine in question is a HP nc6220 laptop which as a Broadcom NIC, Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG NIC and integrated Bluetooth. Any ideas how I can cut down on the amount of time it takes to install the networking components?
