I'm goin to tell you what I do, but keep in mind that there's maybe another better way, but I haven't had any troubles at all. I'm not sure if SP2 is needed when you integrate SP3, but I do it anyway. - First, I integrate SP2 on a clean XP source with nLite. - Second, SP3 with nLite as well. - Third, IE7 with nLite, and nothing else. - Fourth, I use Boooggy's WMP11 Slipstreamer to include WMP11. Those are the steps I take, and after that, I use nLite with all the addons, tweaks and stuff I have, and again, so far with no problems at all. I recall reading from a post that Mr. Ricktendo64 suggested to use this addon instead of the original IE7 installer that you can download from the Microsoft Website. Keep in mind I don't use RyanVM Post-SP2 addon to update my installation. I hope it helps in some way.

Hi. It's an old bug I have since the first days I started using nLite, but now that I'm on the final stages of my "perfect" XP CD installation project, I would like to solve it once and for all. There's a shortcut on the desktop that leads nowhere, because the original destination was moved or deleted, and when I try to delete that shortcut, explorer crashes, simply as that. For what I can see, yes, Damian666 was actually trying to help you, and not trying to make any comparison. Everything is a matter of opinion, but sometimes saying that everything sucks but your work is not correct, if you don't have anything good to say, dont say anything at all. You are in a open forum, try to be more open minded, and if you need help fixing the start button, just ask, that's why many people are here for.

It will not make any difference to add a sleep command because WPI just opens another file, and that file is the one that contains the whole script. I tried it anyway, but with the same results. I went back to version 6.3, and now it works ok, so it should be the changes between those two versions that somehow block the script to write in the registry. I will keep using version 6.3 then. Hello. I've created automated installers (EXE files) with a scripting program for each software title I have, so I just have to open that compiled EXE and the program will install itself, pretty much like AutoIt does. In many cases, the script calls a Registry file (REG file) to configure the program I'm installing the way I need it, but when I run the scripts from WPI, everything goes well except for those Registry files, wich are not being applied in any automated installation. Any ideas on how I can resolve this issue? The program I use to create the scripts is called vTask Studio (Website), wich works pretty good all the time, I only have the issue with the Reg files with WPI. I'm using the new version 6.4. Thats good information. And yes, I have a PS2 keyboard, and I pressed the correct keys, holding down Right Control I pressed Scroll Lock twice. Now its a matter of knowing what part of my PC is defective. Could a new PCI SATA controller card help in this case?, Im thinking about it because I the problem usually happens when the HDD is very busy. Large transfers between drives and USB devices issues lead to the same end. My backup HDD is inside of an Antec MX1 external case, wich has support for eSata and USB, and since the beginning I had to use the USB interface, otherwise the PC would freeze, and, on top of that, I cannot connect for long any USB device, Windows will freeze.

I did it already, and since I wanted to reproduce the problem, I fired up WoW. I did follow the procedure to have a complete system dump, I opened the case just to make sure it was not a heat problem, turned the fans to max rpm, and after a few minutes, the whole system froze. I then pressed Right Control + Scroll Lock twice as it was indicated but no luck, I restarted the system and I didnt find any dump file or logs of anything, so I dont know where the problem comes from.

Now, that's a hell of a sugestion!!. I will surely try it and I will be back with the conclusion. Thanks so much for the idea. EDIT: One question, Im confused about what version I should use if I have a Core 2 Duo (wich supports 64 bit extensions) and XP 32 bits. Hi. As the topic title says, my PC freezes under certain conditions that I cannot seem to find. No BSOD appears, instead everything stops working, and when I have music playing, the last milisecond played of the track gets stuck. When I copy a large amount of info, maybe 8 GB or more from my main HDD to another USB backup drive its the same, or when I play World Of Warcraft, I log in and 1 minute after I have to reset the machine, so I think the problem should be the RAM, or the SATA controller on my cheap motherboard. I have the lastest patches for XP and lastest drivers for all the hardware, and a lot of fans blowing air. Here are my specs: Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 (No overclocking) ASRocl 4CoreDual-VSTA motherboard Kingston 2 GB DDR2-800 in dual channel working at 533 Mhz due to motherboard limitations. ATI Radeon All In Wonder 9800 Pro 128 Mb Gigabyte Aurora 3D Case Please, if somebody have any ideas, let me know. Thanks in advance.

Greetings. Finally, this is the second version of those pesky icons of mine. There are 187 PNGs in total on the whole pack (3 parts). I'm not using the standard 256 * 256 px format in many designs because any icon maker software can convert them easily to the right sizes automatically. Where applicable, you will find that the PNGs have layers, making easy for anyone to modify colors and stuff like that. If you compare them to the first ones on my gallery, you may think many are exactly the same, well, they are not. Subtle variations you will find; some noise, blurry surfaces, etc... It took me many days and a lot of effort to complete the collection, so please, be gentle with your opinions. This is a design I will be using on my custom XP Theme as a Start Button. Actually I have some folder templates with different colors, with some icon backgrounds as well , I can upload them if you want, but those are just the empty folders and backgrounds, but since all the PNGs are fully customizable, its really easy to just insert any graphic to suit your needs. Wow, great, thanks very much for the info, it surely will come in handy. And since I dont know much about programming, it would be hard for me to change by example the default layout in which WPI shows the list of the software, but with the lines of code you provided, I will be able to accomplish much more easily what I want to do. Greetings. I'm making scripted installations of every software I need using AutoIt and switches, so each one is already preconfigured in the way I like. Now, I'm looking for a configurable GUI where I can select from a list wich ones I want to install and which ones I don't. Similar projects like "WPI" or "Mars Installer" partially do what I need. But I would like to have much more flexibility, like installing each piece of software from its current folder, and no from the "Install" folder like WPI does, by example; or changing the front GUI to suit my needs as well, wich Mars Installer doesnt allow. If there's any ideas, please let me know, this is the final phase of a very long project. Thank you in advance.

I've doing some test on a virtual machine, and everything works if those three services are set to "Automatic" (BITS, Event Log and Automatic Updates). And before that, I had BITS and Automatic Updates set to "Manual", and back then, Windows Updates didnt work properly. Are the "Manual" setting the real cause for my problem?

Greetings. I cannot access Windows Update with my customized XP. What I have to do is to use "Dial-a-Fix" to correct the problem. Attached is my configuration file. Please, take a look at it, and let me know what it is wrong. The Windows Update page tells me that I have the services BITS and Event Log deactivated, but manually fixing it doesnt work either. Replace the following string "HKU\S-1-5-21-1645522239-220523388-725345543-500" with "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" (without quotes). Try it like that. And I recommend you to use Registry Workshop instead to take snapshots from different states of the registry. I hope it helps...

Thank you again for the responses Mr. Nuhi. I resolved the problem of the BSOD. It appears to be a new addon pack that I started to use, the Gmail Drive addon pack. I had a feeling and I left it out, then everything worked just fine. I used again CDimage for the ISO creation, and the vistual machine worked fine as well. Please check the capital letters problem for the next revision, I just hope is something I'm doin wrong, because I dont see anyone else having the same kind of trouble. Thank you for your patience.

The change affect the inside of the $OEM$ folder as well, and since I have inside of it predifined shortcuts for the desktop and similar things, I do mind the capital letters. I used CDImage with a "boot.img" that I found on MSFN to create the image file, and when tested on the virtual machine, it installs fine, but when it tries to log in for the first time, a blue screen appears very fast and it then reebots itself. I can use any other tool, but I have always used nLite for the entire process, so thats why I was wondering what was the problem with this lastest releases, if theres one. Thank you.
