  1. There is a way to upgrade Windows Vista Enterprise to Ultimate (not enabled by default) Before inserting the Windows Vista Ultimate CD Go to, Start, Run: and type: regedit.exe Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion Change the key : ProductName from "Windows Vista ™ Enterprise” to “Windows Vista ™ Business” Change the key: EditionID from "Enterprise" to “Business” Do not restart Now insert Windows Vista Ultimate CD and start upgrading (the option Upgrade will not be graded out anymore) Gil D.
  2. Microsoft released a new update for XP computers that are running SP2 as described on MS KB884020 you will be redirected to download the file which will include a patch: WindowsXP-KB884020-x86-enu.exe MD5: ED94381266843E545470DF523A806AD6 (In case you download it from other source like eMule or FTP servers) The problem is that it will replace the tcpip.sys file to a new version: 13-Aug-2004 22:50 5.1.2600.2505 359,040 Tcpip.sys (Instead of 5.1.2600.2180 that come with SP2 RTM) Did anyone hacked the new tcpip.sys numbers of max connections from 10 to unlimited? Thanks RD

  4. Yes, I know its a bug for some people, strange.....
  5. I am trying to get a document regarding the installation proccess of a new SQL 2000 database on Windows Server 2003 Cluster with shared disks & named. I already know the information above from experience. I would like to have such document to my IT department. for new technical people. I am trying to make life easier, in the worst case, I will do it myself. Thanks for the tip RD
  6. Hi I am looking for a Step by Step guide for installing a new SQL 2000 on Windows Server 2003 Cluster. I have the Step by Step Guide for Clustering on Windows Server 2003 the only thing I need now is the SQL 2000 part after setting up the cluster. I have the guide for Windows 2000, but it is not the same. Thanks in advance! RD
  7. Did you notice that the after upgrading to SP2, the install file: WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe which is Digital Signed on August 4, will not show its Digital Signature..... You can still see the the Digital Signature of the file using Windows XP SP1 or less Strange..... Other files that are Digital Signed are OK (Like the Express Install file) RD
  8. which reg cleaner are u talking about ? simple regedit
  9. this right? : 1) remove the servicepackuninstall folder 2) remove above regkeys the answer to your question is yes, do as you described. I still think that the rtw (release to web) SP2 version will include no backup option. but we will need to wait for next week, untill it will go bublic. RD
  10. yes, you can delete all $$ folders, just also look for the servicepack regkey and remove it too
  11. just delete them, because SP2 will include them. you can use the Reg Cleaner to clean them. yep, that's the only thing possible to have no archiving using SP2 to clear the steps using Windows XP SP2 without archiving (save around ~500 MB of disk space) do the following: Extract the service pack by using extract program or start the installation, check where is the folder which the SP2 extract the files copy to another location the I386 folder, cancel the original installation and continue: start with no archiving option: ../I386/Update/Update.exe /n restart windows after you finish installing the SP2 remove all the folders that start with $NtUninstallQ and $NtUninstallKB, from c:\windows and remove the same Q's and KB's from the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\HotFix HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache and also under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall in the above key you can also remove the uninstaller for the SP2 that shows under the Add/Remove programs RD
  12. I tried to extract the SP2 file and used ../I386/Update/Update.exe /n the good side was that it didn't backup the files into the C:\Windows\$UnInstallServicePack$ folder like it normaly do (save me around 500 MB of space) however it didn't remove old SP1 patches folders ($UnInstallQxxx$ or $Uninstall KBxxxx$ etc.) from C:\Windows it also added Windows XP SP2 to the Add/Remove Programs In SP1 you could have choosen "Do Not Archive" however this option is not implemented in SP2 any ideas? Thanks RD
  13. there is a very simple fix for it (as described in TweakNT Read me file): in imple words under the folder C:\Windows\System32\Config there are two files: one is the original backup (which TweakNT was smart enough to backup) and one is the modified one the backup under the above folder called: SYSTEM_BACKUP-XXXXXX where the XXXX are just different numbers you need to rename the modified SYSTEM file to lets say: SYSTEM.TWEAKNT and to rename the backup file SYSTEM_BACKUP-XXXXXX to SYSTEM now exit and restart and all works well like you never did any TweakNT change. PS if you don't have another OS that you are able to go and access the files under the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder use your Windows Server 2003 CD, and click R at the setup screen to go to the Recoverable Console.
