    Reinstall netbios

    Thank you for this detailed answer. With a given network configuration using an internet box (ADSL+VoIP), it seems that "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service is really necessary to make the connection. As it is not on my machine @home, I have to manage the update by phone+mail (not the easiest way). After analysis of nettcpip.inf, I exactly reach the point you propose: => extract the LmHosts reg key from a working machine, and add it, as well as lmhsvc.dll in system32. The service is now visible but gives error 1083 when activated. I found it could be related to BITS service key (transfert background service), add the BITS reg key the same way as LmHosts key, but following error is 126. I am on the way to recreate a new NLite build, but of course would have been faster to just add what is missing especially when managed by phone and mail ! If you know how to workaround next error 126, you're welcome !

    Reinstall netbios

    I would also be very interested to get the answer about how to reinstall "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" service in XP, if too agressively removed with NLite.... Is it just an .inf file like "nettcpip.inf" to reinstall ? Does not seem to be sufficient...... Thanks for your clever ideas.

    ntkrnlmp.exe

    i386/ntkrnlmp.exe can not be loaded error code 14 setup cant go on. press any key to exit Very well known issue, but no clear answer [ http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=839210&sd=RMVP ] If somebody knows how to workaround this error, he is welcome. Tried many proposals without success. (not NLite related, but boring problem when it happens while tweaking).
  4. I don't get any error with this, but did not understand why some settings were not taken into consideration and some others just sometimes. From one NLite release to others, pre-settings should be 100% checked to avoid surprises at the end of the process. Status with 1.2RC: [services] section does not exist anymore; removed services are now in [components] sections [services2] section only contains modified service settings. Good to know.
  5. I confirm there is no more [services] section, but only [services2] section with Nlite 1.2RC. Removed services are in [Components] section. Bug or not ? Don't know. Needs confirmation.
  6. Well, does not seem to reflect the reality of some past configuration files; => would need some confirmation if possible. With Nlite 1.2RC, I have a [services2] section for modified services, but no [services] section anymore for removed services. My confusion comes from this observation; then bug or not ? Apparently, [services] section is only read&saved in Last Session.ini file, but cannot be saved in any other configuration file. [services2] section does not behave the same, and preset can be saved in any other configuration file. May be something to do with this error: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast object of type 'System.Windows.Forms.TreeNode' to type '..'. at ..() at ..(String , Int32 , Boolean ) at ..6() at ..<(Object , EventArgs ) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnMouseUp(MouseEventArgs mevent) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.ButtonBase.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.OnMessage(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.WndProc(Message& m) at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam) ************** Loaded Assemblies ************** mscorlib Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200) CodeBase: file:///e:/Program%20Files/nLite/v2.0.50727/mscorlib.dll ---------------------------------------- nLite Assembly Version: 1.2.0.1 Win32 Version: 1.2.0.1 CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/nLite.exe ---------------------------------------- System Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200) CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/System.DLL ---------------------------------------- nLite Assembly Version: 1.2.0.1 Win32 Version: 1.2.0.1 CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/nLite.exe ---------------------------------------- System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200) CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/System.Windows.Forms.DLL ---------------------------------------- System.Drawing Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200) CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/System.Drawing.DLL ---------------------------------------- cablib Assembly Version: 1.0.2459.36134 Win32 Version: CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/cablib.DLL ---------------------------------------- msvcm80 Assembly Version: 8.0.50608.0 Win32 Version: 8.00.50727.42 CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/msvcm80.DLL ---------------------------------------- nlgw Assembly Version: 1.1.0.0 Win32 Version: 1.2.0.1 CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/nLite.exe ---------------------------------------- Accessibility Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.42 (RTM.050727-4200) CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/Accessibility.DLL ---------------------------------------- MCDBNET2 Assembly Version: 1.32.0.0 Win32 Version: 1.32.0.1302 CodeBase: file:///E:/Program%20Files/nLite/MCDBNET2.DLL ----------------------------------------
  7. Ok thanks; I will check.
  8. I have noticed that [services] & [services2] sections are created in different NLite configuration files. What is the difference between both of them ? Thanks.
  9. GUIattended option is already part of Unattended setup during NLIte process. If you got this option, it is normal that winnt.sif is created. If you don't want any winnt.sif file, just skip/unselect "Unattended" section of Nlite process. Also check before starting NLite process that a winnt.sif file has not been already created during a previous setup process, or already existing on the CD you start the process with. It should work. That's all I know.
  10. As far as I know, whatever the content of \I386\winnt.sif is, as soon as winnt.sif file is found by the setup process after CD boot, repair option will not be available. The most flexible option is to move winnt.sif to a floppy. It will be found by the setup process. If you want repair option back, just remove the floppy !
  11. Do you have a \i386\winnt.sif for unattended installation ? I think the presence of winnt.sif by itself removes ability to repair/recovery console. If you want to use repair, you should use a non-unattended CD.
  12. Yes, if you remove it, you can't find it ! This already happened to me. => http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=567794
  13. If you don't find winnt.exe after NLite processing, probability is high that you have removed "Manual Install & upgrade" in components.
  14. Exactly the same ! => c:\I386\winnt.exe
  15. Yes I tried to add these french packages on French XP release. Same observation as yours: nothing visible.
