  1. I think there is a bug with the indexing service. I checked it for removal but it's still there. Well it's not in the list of services.msc, but when I view the properties of my harddrive (C: i mean), the option to index is still available and works.

Getting rid of "Allow Indexing service to ..." would involve editing shell files, which goes beyond the scope of nLite. Windows was not designed to have that service removed, which is why it sticks around even after you remove it. :)

  2. Yeah I expect I'll be able to open up explorer, but that's about it. :)

    Let's shoot for a 100 mb ISO!

    My report

Disclaimer: I have not read the past 30 pages, these bugs may have been reported, or they may be due to the fact that I removed EVERYTHING

-No errors during nLite usage or during XP installation, boots to the desktop in VirtualPC just fine

    -Iso size: 120 megs

    -Windows folder size: 287 megs

-8 processes (Disabled a bunch relating to network)

-The "Backup" system tool is not removed, seems like a great candidate for removal

-The "Synchronize" tool is still there, probably could be removed as well

-Folders of removed components remain in the \Windows directory (there's probably not much you can do about this)

What exactly is the ASMS folder on the XPCD? Has anybody tried to remove it and install?

    Edit #16

I used Bold_Fortune's batch files to remove more files... down now to 211 199 meg Windows folder.

  3. Open up your boot.ini file (root of Master hard drive) and add this line to the entry of the OS you want to remove the bootscreen from

    /NOGUIBOOT

so it'll look something like this:

    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NOGUIBOOT

  4. Solved! :)

Here's how to make your own custom about:<name> page:

    1. Create an html page and place it anywhere on your hard drive (I chose C:\Windows\Localhost)

    2. Open up regedit and navigate to:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs

    3. Create a new string value, name it whatever you want the about:<name> to be. I named mine localhost.

    4. Right click the string you created, and select Modify. Type the complete path to the webpage (i.e. C:/Windows/Localhost/index.htm)

That's it! Close the registry editor. Now all you have to do is set your homepage to about:<name> and your custom page will show up.

I'd also like to add that it is noticeably faster than Apache.
