I previously had a raid array, and now installing fresh on one of these drives. I have changed the the configuration from RAID back to IDE in the bios, but the installer is not finding the drive, yet i can see the drive in the bios on sata port 1. I know i had to load drivers for sata-raid, but surely not for one disk?

If you plan to use "Offline NT password®istry editor", reset(blank)the password first and dont forget to exit and save, *This is very important, otherwise you may not be able to log on at all* Read the instructions carefully, and understand them!

Thanks, i'll try that. cheers

Hello all, i had a virus issue, and had problems getting rid of it. The antivirus reported it being in path c:/users/me/App data/local/temp, so i went to the folder and tried to delete it, but it would not delete, so i deleted all the files in the temp folder, now getting a pop-up error saying "125151Log.iniis missing", and the program seems to be related to AsusSetup, which i have uninstalled, yet this error comes up after login each time PC is booted. I have looked through the registry and removed values for asus dvd, and still getting error. Any ideas here? cheers

Thanks for those, but unfortunately the one on tom's hardware is a fix for IE, and did not fix my problem. I read the microsoft support article Q170086, and couldn't decipher which entry was causing the fault, so i deleted all entries in run folder[ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] and also the entries in run folder [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] except for the default entries[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run] Value: SystemTray Value Type: REG_SZ Value Data: SysTray.exe After reboot, i just had to change preferences in regards to certain applications that require permission to run at start-up, and all is good!

My friend called me today after her system crashed, she managed to get it to boot, did a restore(restore from partition using HP restore software)and in the process lost several valuable documents, and also every time now when it boots into windows, the system32 folder is open. I have seen this before, but cannot remember the fix, can someone refresh my memory pls. The OS is XP home edition version 2002, updated to SP3, and i dont have disk to re-install Thanks

I am a little green with Vista, i have Vista ultimate ver: 6.0.6001 service Pack 1, i installed clean on a 250Gb primary partition last week, and have noticed it is very slow booting up. So much so, that my other machine with Xp Pro leaves it for dead, i have checked the start-up services, programs etc, and i have turned off the ones i dont need, yet it still takes about 5 to 5 and half mins to drop back to idle. Is this normal for Vista? or does it need to be tuned for quicker boot time? Am i missing something here? Any ideas? Thanks

i inadvertently fixed it, seems the drive(IDE) was not formatted, although i could have sweared that i did, anyways, its working fine now, cheers. Mal

I recently installed windows on a SATA drive, it was previously on one of my IDE drives, i then formatted the IDE so as not to create a conflict upon booting it up. But in the process it did cause a problem, now i have to F8 into boot menu after post to get it to boot to my SATA drive where windows is installed, its not showing a 2nd windows install, just wont boot to the SATA. I suspect there maybe still a MBR on the IDE where windows was, and is is tryin to boot it, but comes up a configuration error and asks me to check my drive jumpers etc, but i know they are correct(i have checked them several times!). Can anyone shed some light here please?

Do any of these custom boot logo's work on xp64?, a friend of mine tried one and it didn't want to boot after that.

I have been arguing the transition to vista to a friend of mine, and apart from DX10, i dont see any reason to shift from Xp->Vista. And now with the problems, bugs, and glitches surrounding the advent of SP1, i'm stayin with with Xp, i dont need DX10 yet and i run Xp64 dual boot with Fedora64.

Thanks Ponch, yeah, his advice seemed a bit dodgy, and i'm not gonna risk it. The machine was a friends, and he bought a dell package, so i took his old 300pl off his hands, i like these old machiones, they run very well with Xp and even Vista with the right tweaks, but i was little p***ed when i saw the windows genuine sticker was missin, it has the old windows NT 4.0 sticker on the rear. My friend who previously ownded this machine is not so putah savvy, and doesn't know if the OS is genuine or illegal, so i face loosen this OS, but hey, it was a gift horse, so i might go get Vista home premium and pop it on this, and give Xp home a miss. Thanks for replys.

Thanks, i'll work through that material and see if i can find my OS. Thanks again

Hello, i have recently aquired a IBM 300PL desktop with XP home on it, and even tho it is old, it has a 667mhz pentium III 256mb ram and runs pretty well, at least for a while then it all went bad, had a virus on it, i identified it as win32netsky.worm and several other trojans, which slowed it down and eventually BSOD, i decided to do clean install, start from scratch as they say;) Now it had windows home edition on it, i extracted the product key before i re-installed, as the sticker is missing(there is a glue mark on case where it was). Right, i got hold of an win xp home OEM install disk, but the product key is invalid according to windows installer, but with out the sticker, i am guessing it is another version of XP home edition. Can someone tell me how many versions there are of WINDOWS XP HOME ?? Thanks

BSOD ? Nope, it doesn't get that far, error occours at end of post screen.
