  1. My DISM.exe is also 7600.16385 and I installed Windows from a ISO with included Sp1.
  2. reply to the UAC topic if you have questions about how to create tasks and run them.
  3. You're welcome. remember to create 2 Tasks (1 for enable and 1 for disable the device) to workaround the UAC prompts:
  4. for me it works. Have you commited the changes on unmount? Also look in the DISM.log in C:\Windows\Logs\DISM for more details.
  5. http://www.hanselman.com/blog/GuideToInstallingAndBootingWindows8DeveloperPreviewOffAVHDVirtualHardDisk.aspx The values are fine. No latency over 500µs. use DevCon.exe ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272 ) to enable disable the device.
  6. the latency should not be over 1000µs. Look if the USB and WiFi doesn't share the same IRQ.
  7. Hi and welcome to msfn

  9. can you test this on the Windows 8 Developer edition (Run as VHD boot to avoid hassle with the partition) to verifiy that this only happens on Windows 7? Also what are your PC specs?
  10. get the latest MSU version from here: this version includes the latest Cumulative IE security update. So you don't need to care about the order of the IE9 updates.
  11. updates don't depend on each other and if the check of superseded updates is not important the oder is irrelevant.
  12. the order is important if you want to avoid to install superseded updates. So you should install the newest updates first.
  13. good decision. Vista works fine.
  14. you mean the Windows System Assessment Tool (WinSAT) tool. The Windows Assessment Toolkit is a new toolset: Windows ADK http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=27410
  15. @Jenko you have an extreme CPU usage caused by the ACPI.sys driver: ACPI.sys!RestartCtxtPassive Some users also had this but we never found a solution. Try this KB article I linked on the last page. Also update the BIOS and try a different power plan.
  16. @adlib looks like you have the same ACPI battery issue like eminememinem. Try to install the battery and let Windows install the drivers again. About the atheros 9285, atheros makes cheap chips which work, but which are not the best you can get. Is the WLAN module replaceable or fixed on the laptop motherboard? Maybe you can switch to a different module from Intel.
  17. I think tis an issue with switching between the GPUs. Intel i CPUs also have a GPU. And this GPU uses less power. If you run 3D games, the Radeon should be used. And the switching maybe the problem if the laptop was off. Does it happen right from the beginning?
  18. Do you use the Radeon GPU or the graphic from the Intel i CPU?
  19. This is ok, but I'M DESKTOP USER, NO TABLET USER!!!!. I DON'T WANT IT ON MY DESKTOP, because I have NO benefit from the new UI, ONLY DISADVANTAGES. For tablets with touch hardware (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd371581%28v=vs.85%29.aspx) the new UI can be enabled by default, but NOT for home users on desktops. Why is this always so complicated to implement options in MS tools? Also the useless ribbon in the Explorer uses too much space. Only 10% used the command bar and most users have 768 pixels, so MS wasted the valuably vertical space. Option to disable it? No! Well done! I hope you can see my sarcasm. The look of the Win7 Explorer + the removed functions from Vistas Explorer and TABS would be nice to have in Windows 8. Those are required improvements, not this teletubby UI.
  20. Server 8 has it, too http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-8-server-screenshots--what039s-new
  21. This teletubby style is nothing for me. For a touch monitor it is nice, but not for a Desktop PC with mouse/keyboard. MSFT made the mistake several years to force tablet users to run a non touch UI, now they force the PCs users to use a Touch UI. THIS DOESN'T WORK! Apple also doesn't use MacOSX on the iPad and normal Mac If I can't turn this crap in the RTM off, I don't use Windows 8. That's simple Renaming the shsxs.dll fixes it in the Developer Preview. I have the old/1000 times faster Windows 7 Startmenu back + all improvements from the Windows 8 kernel + Hyper-V. This is what I wanted for Windows 7 and now I have it after 2 years
  22. For Windows 8 MS builds a new tool (Windows Assessment Toolkit) which runs the task and open the trace itself and shows what causes slowdowns. I have to play with it a few days to figure out how it works and if it helps you to see why resume is so slow.
  23. the new startscreen is a disaster I never had such an bad UX I have to search several minutes to do the simplest basics. Hopefully we can select which startmenu we want to use on desktop systems. On touch based tablets it may be really cool but it sucks completely with Mouse and keyboard. It also runs with VMWare Workstation 8. I have no issues with VirtualBox.
  24. You read the values correctly. I have no real idea why it takes too long to read the data because I have no SSD and so no real experience with it.
  25. I also run both tools to tarce my slow hibernation resume and it works. I started ProcMon and next run xbootmgr and it works for me fine. reading is slow (over 500seconds): hiberread="503716000" Try to disable the hibernation file, defrag the SSD (yes, running defrag 1 time should be ok), enable hibernation again and try again.
