  1. Thanks guys for the feedback I did the re-D/L thing, ran a fresh SP2 slipstream (no HotFixes) and copied it to a separate folder. Then I ran HFSLIP again to slipstream the HotFixes. (all the .NET, admin stuff aren't the problem) I ran WMP10Slipstream3 on both of the above. It worked just fine without slipstreaming the hotfixes w/ HFSLIP so I know the program works ie: the download was not corrupt. (didn't test on virtPC but I believe you lol) When I ran it on the HFSLIP i386 I recd the same error message as before So I tried a 3rd experiment. I took the XP sp2 that I got WMP10Slipstreamer3 to work on and ran it through HFSLIP (RyanVM's netfix gets put in at this stage) and it didn't seem to mind it. I've got an install going now on VirtualPC to see what it does . I know this method runs contrary to the directions here. Directins on HFSLIP don't exactly say it can't be done this way (you're supposed to put wmp10setup in the /Q:A /R:N Silent Switch folder). Anyway I'll let you know what happens. Who knows we might build a better mousetrap outta what's not supposed to work ! lol
  2. cool thats what I thought it was supposed to do. I just wanted to make sure the problem wasn't somth'n stupid or too obvious to catch if u know what I mean.
  3. wait wait wait a min!!! where does WMP10setup.exe file have to be in order to run Slipstreamer3 on it?!?!?!? Am I supposed to put it in a certain directory before running the WMP10slipstreamer on it????
  4. They are completely compatible! If you follow the steps that have been outlined before: Run nLite and do whatever you want to do w/it. Complete all the nLite steps except making the iso Add RyanVM's update Close/exit out of nLite @NemoNada Sorry if this is a silly question but which RyanVM pack are you refering to here? The netfix?
  5. @ NemoNada Thank You for the reply to my post! I hope you are right. I just want to clarify what I meant by the line you quoted me on to be sure we are talking about the same things though. I did not use nLite to slipstream SP2 & integrate Hotfixes. I used HFSLIP to slipstream SP2 and SLIPSTREAM the HotFixes. Have you used WMP10v3sliptreamer to slipstream WMP10 into an XP using HFSLIP to slipstream SP2 and slipstream the HotFixes ? OR has anyone else here ? I will definitly try what you suggest and let you know how it went Thanks again
  6. HOLY $#!@ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I JUST SLIPSTREAMED WMP10 USING HFSLIP!!!!! I tried using Gnomes wmp10slipstreamer (see my prev. post). I checked that fourum about the error. Others experienced the same problem (not w/ hfslip). The advice give was to re-D/L both wmpSlipstreamer and WMP10. So I did that and I used a m$ link for WMP10 given on the thread. I noticed that the icon was different than my previous wmp10 icon. The new icon was the type for the /Q:A /R:N Silent Switch. So I said what the hell I'll give it a whirl. I renamed the .exe to WMPXSetup.exe (for 8.3), put it in the HFSVPK_SW folder, ran it, installed on virtualPC and it WORKED !!!!!!! B) Here's the link I used to get the WMP10: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...d/download.aspx Aww heck, maybe I only managed to install it. Just don't rain on my parade lol
  7. The first time I ran this I got the same immediate error someone else reported "Error: Couldn't read section entry. Please report the bug." From the thread the answer seemed to be to reD/L Slipstreamer&WMP10. So I did that and this time I recd: "Access violation at address 00462495 in module 'Slipstreamer_v3.exe' Read of address 00000000." I used TommyP's HFSLIP ( http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=32125 ) to Slipstream sp2 and post sp2 HotFixes. Perhaps this way of SP2+Hotfix Slipstreaming aren't compatible? If not it would be probably be the ultimate total slipstream if a way was found to get them to work together. Any feedback on this error would be greatly appreciated. thanks
  8. I just tried to use Gnome's WMP10 Slipstreamer on my HFslipped i386... Well, that went over like a fart in a diving helmet. It didn't get of the ground - said "report this bug" - and do you think it told me what the bug was???? Guess I'll be waitn for TommyP !!!! Actually I will probably tinker with it a bit as soon as I can quit roflma
  9. @TommyP @Tomcat - I also have the empty.txt issue come up with English version of XP. I made a post about it and no one else commented on it so I figured it was just me. I finnally decided to copy empty.txt from my SOURCE\i386 and put it in FIX and it solved the problem. My HFSILIP\TEMP folder doesn't delete itself either
  10. Sounds Great TommyP. I wish I knew enough about it to give an answer. It would be nice though to have all of the codecs merged in there. Not too many things more annoying than -->you do not have the proper codecs.... lol I guess if wmp10 is big and bloated (there's a lot of stuff on it I've never used, much less even looked at) then just a functional integrated player for media playback. It's not like I'm gonna burn a cd with it! Media library - what the hell for?
  11. I can't seem to find a working link for netfixsp1. The link on Ryans files goes to the msfn homepage??? The direct link comes up "forbidden"???? Is the file still available ???
  12. I started there and somehow wound up here (don't remember exactly how though). The first post of this thread promises much. I'm sort of a perfectionist about this and if I'm going to bother to do it and take the time to learn how I want it to be done right and with the best result. Thats just me. I read this entire thread and I'd bet that it is pretty intimidating to most people. The majority is above my head. I'm not afraid to mess w/ my registry as long as I have a guide ie a good set of instructions. Also I'm not a bit afraid to turn my puter into a toaster in the process of learning. Thus my desire for a better faster install lol. I'm hoping my willingness to jump in there with silly newbie questions will encourage others to join us.
  13. I like the new instructions format step by step and easy enough to follow. Is there by chance a typo in step 2 for winXP slipstreaming SP2? ----- Open a command prompt by going to Start/programs/accessories/command prompt Type D:\SP\name of service pack.EXE -x When asked which directory you want to expand to, accept its default. Type D:\SP\i386\UPDATE\UPDATE.EXE -s:D:\ ----- I have D:\SP and D:\i386. Iused:WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU as name of service pack. when I typed D:\SP\i386\UPDATE\UPDATE.EXE -s:D:\ into the cmd prompt it says, "The system cannot find the path specified." Has this happened to anyone else or am I still learning how to read lol ?
  14. @ FDV Thanks for the reply. If you would like, I would be happy to look over the documentation before final release and maybe point out anything that doesn't seem clear for someone on my level. This might help reduce the number of questions posted and enable more people to use this GREAT TOOL. In any case I'll still ask questions. If anything it might help encourage other newbies like me. I did another run using TommyP's list of hotfixes. The only thing that came up that I have a question on is: during finalizing the instalation a box poped up saying "cannot copy file: empty.txt" I selected "continue without it" Doesn't seem like much of a big deal except that it interupts an unattended instal (which I ran on my slow VirtualPC before going to bed) Anyone seen this b4?
  15. Thanks TommyP I'm sure that list will help me out!!! for WMP10setup: *Setup Part 6* (Optional) Installing Programs with a /Q:A /R:N Silent Switch Place file into SVPK_SW folder. Filenames must have 8.3 formatting W2K only - WMP9 Installer (optional) Place the WMP9 series installer here (MPSetup.exe) I saw the "W2K only" so I didn't catch that part. *Setup Part 7* (Optional) Installing Self Extracting Silent Switchless Installers/Programs/Regedits/INFs/CMDs Place file into SVPK_NO_SW folder. Filenames must have 8.3 formatting - QUESTION?: would these be the /Q /O /N /Z types that go into SVPK_NO_SW or do they belong in the SVP_SW FOLDER as well ???? As you can tell I'm just now learning about this stuff so let me say THANK YOU ALL in advance for your patience with me and again for your help.
  16. @fdv Im not sure if you are talking to me or not. I d/l the hotfixes inividually from MS. I chose them based on comparisons with the fsfn thread on the subject, what I found on my computer, my update history on WU, and a little bit of research. Based upon this I believe those are the updates for my OS - I could be wrong of course.
  17. I thought I could read I've read the entire thread, You guys have done some great work Aparently the directions are not clear enough yet for someone like me. I would be happy to help out with specific step by step instructions for the program once I'm able to make it work for me. On my second attempt I decided to document the steps I took according to my interpretation of the directions. Hopefully this will help me learn by pointing out where I went wrong and help to develop the manual for this great program. 1) c:\HFSLIP Double-click the CMD file to automatically create the folder structure. The program will automatically terminate. 2) Use XPpro copied from cd, (slipstreamed with sp2 via manual method.) 3) Copy the i386 directory and WIN51, WIN51IP, Win51ip.sp2, to the SOURCE folder. 4) Download all the hotfixes for your OS and do not rename them. Put the Hotfixes into the HF folder (these are the hotfixes I used) DECCHECKSetup.EXE dxsdk_aug2005.exe dxwebsetup.exe hmtcdwizard_enu.exe IE6.0sp1-KB823353-x86-ENU.exe MP10Setup.exe NDP1.1sp1-KB886903-X86.exe wgainstall_9160b6b3929938243b7d18417810677d9b9983b7.exe WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe Windows-KB890830-V1.7-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB842773-v2-x86-enu.exe WindowsXP-KB867282-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB873333-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB873339-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB883939-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB885250-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB885835-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB885836-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB886185-x86-enu.exe WindowsXP-KB887472-x86-enu.exe WindowsXP-KB887742-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB887797-x86-enu.exe WindowsXP-KB888113-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB888302-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB890046-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB890175-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB890859-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB890923-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB891781-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB893066-v2-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB893086-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB893756-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB894391-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB896344-v2-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB896358-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB896422-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB896423-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB896428-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB896727-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB898461-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB899587-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB899588-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB899591-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB900930-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB901214-x86-ENU.exe WindowsXP-KB903235-x86-ENU.exe WM9Codecs.exe 5) Double click the CMD file to slipstream hotfix binaries -security box poped up for WMP10, I selected "run". -received error notice...not applicable to system32 or something like that (it doesn't stay up long enough to write it down) 6) skiped Nlite the SOURCES folder stuff (for now) 7) From the SOURCESS folder (which contains only the i386 directory, WIN51,WIN51IP, & Win51ip.sp2) create a bootable cd - I used Nlite to make a bootable iso 8) Test using MSvirtualPC RESULTS: setup loads files and restarts... "press any key to boot from cd..." comes up. (startup fails) the VM continues trying to restart Windows over and over again
  18. I started out on this very guide and wmp10 did not install. Thats what led me here. My svcpack.inf looks like this: ;Windows XP [Version] Signature="$Windows NT$" MajorVersion=5 MinorVersion=1 BuildNumber=2600 [setupData] CatalogSubDir="\i386\SVCPACK" [ProductCatalogsToInstall] [setupHotfixesToRun] MP10Setup.exe KB823353.exe /Q:A /R:N KB842773.exe /Q /O /N /Z KB867282.exe /Q /O /N /Z KB873333.exe /Q /O /N /Z KB873339.exe /Q /O /N /Z KB883939.exe... Any ideas on what I have wrong? Thanks
