  1. Oh BTW, I don't have a soundcard. I'm just using the onboard sound. So the issues with bad Audigy drivers don't affect me.
  2. @Gunndar45 Now I know my specs are pretty low, but they do meet the minimum requirements. Athlon XP 2800+ Barton nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200i 128Mb (Pixel shader 1.1 (or 1.3, is there a 1.3 I can't remeber) support) - anyway the exact model is ASUS V8420. Corsair XMS Pro, 2 x 512Mb PC3200 (DDR400) ASUS A7N8X Deluxe-E, nForce2 Motherboard Seagate 7200.8 250Gb, 2 x Seagate 160Gb, Seagate 120Gb and a WD 80 Gb The PSU is a piece of s***, and has caused me problems in the past; however I believe that it is not responsible this time. I reinstalled windows from scratch today and tried running Fable. Same problem, exactly as you describe Gunndar45. I positive that it's not an overheating issue, my CPU is running at about 38 degrees (centigrade) and I'm sure my graphics card can't be any more than 28 degrees (the fan died a while back so I replaced the heatsink with a 2 slot behemoth). Obviously I'm running Windows XP SP2 with all the hotfixes. Other than that there's nothing more that I can think of.
  3. Yeah I've also been having a similar problem, but the crash occurs at the same point every time. When you're an apprentice learning how to use the bow, you're just about to start shooting at mooving targets (at the end of the dialogue) and then the game crashes. Same problem everytime. This seems more like a game bug then something wrong with my computer though.
  4. Yes even after uninstalling all mouse drivers the problem still exists. I atempted to use a the Mouseware drivers from Logitech, and as I said all buttons acted exactly the they should (I'm thinking in general logitech mice are more complex than MS ones and their drivers are compatible with there earlier simpler mouse (similar to the MS one I have) execpt the problem I stated earlier.) I believe the default mapping is different for different models of mouse, with V5.02. My 5 button optical mouse defaulted to autoscroll, while my wireless mouse defaults to next window. However it seems that there is some sort of lingering setting that isn't removed when I unistall the drivers and overides other functions. With only the Logitech drivers intalled the mouse performed both the 'autoscroll' and the 'next window' functions.
  5. Nope did all that, still doesn't work. A mouse is a mouse. The logitech drivers worked better than the Micro$haft ones.
  6. I've installed IntelliPoint drivers for my mouse and for some stupid reason Micro$haft thought that they would reasign the default operation for the middle mouse button to the 'next window' command. Ok so I change it back to what it should be - autoscroll. But this doesn't work! So I unistall the drivers reboot, unistall intellipoint and reboot; still doesn't work. I tried installing logitech drivers and finally the autoscroll sort of works - but the next window command is activated as soon as the button is realesed. Uninstall logitech, reinstall Intellipoint change the settings again. Still doesn't work. All three options, 'middle mouse button', 'autoscroll' and 'next window' all perform the 'next window' operation. Pro/E doesn't have a work around and the use of a middle mouse button is essential for doing CAD models - so I'm on hold until I can fix this situation. Changing the mouse didn't even work! BTW I have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0A and an Intellimouse Optical 1.1A, neither work. I am also using the intellitouch software with wireless keyboard mouse combo.
  7. No it was happening before I turned on transparency although I am using the Longhorn conversion pack, which includes a startbar mod - so that's probably the culprit. Anyway it happens with loads of programmes, so I was wondering if anyone has a universal fix. Like a script that will automatically reposition a window lying in the top 64 pixels say?
  8. I'm no expert on the situation, however I thought I might share my own personal experiences. I absolutely agree turning off the page file is bad. Tried it once and soon realised that some programmes just won't run. My comp has a sizeable amount of RAM, 1Gb so I've did a fair bit of reading and came to the conclusions that I will get to shortly. It should be noted that most of the articles that I read where not written by kernal programmers or memory experts, just journalists and technicians who have been in the IT industry for quiite a while. On MY system I have two page files, one at the start of my system disk on its own partition (Y:\), and another on a seperate disk again on its own partiton (Z:\). Y: has both max and min set to 1024Mb whilst Z: has both max and min set to 2048Mb. My reasoning for this is: By having a fixed page file the system doesn't have to waste cycles dynamically changing it. By having the page file fixed on its own partition you prevent file fragmentation from dynamically resizing the pagefile. By having that partition at the start of the disk you ensure that the page file is on the fastest part of the disk. By having the page file split over several drives you ensure that the system has access to a fast page file if one of the drives is being heavily accessed by an application. So for this setup has worked for me just fine and I have noticed a speed increase (mostly when ALT Tabbing out of games). I have a 3Gb page file, big whoop that's like 0.3% of my total hard-drive space. What I would recommend: try a setup similar to this if you notice a benefit, leave it - if you don't then leave Windows in control. Or if you really need the space reduce your page file. If things slow down you con always change it back. Just remember changing your page file takes about 30 seconds. What's the worst that can happen? A program doesn't work or your computer begins to slowdown - ok so you wasted a minute of your life, just set things back to the way they were no harm done. Anyway this is just what I think not the word of God. And do take note of the fact that I've only posted 3 posts in MSFN - so don't flame me to hard.
  9. Ok now that I want an a window to appear under the taskbar it won't. You can kind of see what I'm getting at though from the picture.
  10. I'm one of those funny people that have my taskbar at the top of the screen but the problem is that when new windows open the taskbar often obscures the top portion of the of the window. This makes the windows difficult to move too, given that there is nowhere to grab the window in order to move it; so I'm stuck using ALT - Space - m - DOWN in order to move the windows. In case this is relevent I have double-height taskbar and use a dual monitor setup. I tried to take a screenshot, but it just occured to me - when I press printscreen, where does windows save the image?
