    Well I found my VCORE was pretty low around 0.985-1.008V and I know low voltage on CPUs can cause these issues I've been having. 

    I manually changed the VCORE to 1.15V and for the heck of it, I overclocked the CPU to 4.2ghz and did a 1 hour stress test using Real Bench and it passed successfully. 

    Average CPU temp was 58c with core 1 reaching 64c as the highest. 

    Fingers crossed this was the culprit...

    A friend of mine told me I should just go Skylake instead of Haswell/Canyon. 

    I got these parts in mind which he also recommended.  Its only about $100 more than the other parts and its way newer.

    The ram unfortunately has a CL17 rating but my friend told me DDR4 has higher latency but better bandwidth I think he was saying so in end, its faster than my DDR3 2133 CL9 ram. 

    Any thoughts on these parts? Or any other better recommendations?

    When I bought the 3570K it was pretty expensive. 

    $374 total for the 4690k and MSI Z97. Not too bad honestly. I already have everything else. 

    I was looking at a non K and they prices are not that much cheaper and it would at least give me the option to overclock if I need to.

    My 16gb from G.Skill is CL9. So I'm good there I think. 

    I know Devil Canyon's CPUS are a refresh of the Haswell for the new Z97 boards at the time so more or less they are like pre overclocked versions of older CPUs right? But I know that 4690K is VERY good in performance and reliability as the 3570K...well unfortunately..not in my case but they are good overall processors. 

    Will there be a noticable performance increase coming from my ASUS P8Z77-V LK + 3570K to the MSI Z97 and 4690K? 

    If my current CPU is failing...then it may not be performing as great as it once was. But I don't know...also really like the fact that MSI Z97 has a M.2 slot, I might be very interested in getting a SSD for that bad boy at 10gb/s haha. 

    Another thing I like about the MSI board is it kind of a independent PCB for audio..so its basically a dedicated sound card and has headphone amp built in..which is really nice actually. I've been having issues with the sound on my current mobo..probably due to the disgusting Realtek drivers...ugh I hate their drivers. I've always had issues with them lol.

    If you seen my latest posts about the BSOD I've been getting lately, @Tripredacus says the fatal hardware error is related to my CPU. If its on the verge of complete failure then maybe its time to build a new system. But I don't see the point in replacing everything I have. 

    I'm thinking all I really need to do is replace the motherboard (to be safe) and get a new CPU. I have good quality 16gb ram G.Skill, though its DDR3 which I think is fine as a lot of mobos still support DDR3 and haven't fully moved over to DDR4 yet. 

    The other new dumps were related to my video card but he said those can be caused by the CPU fault so hopefully there isn't anything wrong with the video card and I should be able to use it on the new motherboard. 

    So the new motherboard I was checking out is the MSI Z97 GAMING 5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130770 and the new CPU the Intel Core i5-4690K Devil's Canyon Quad-Core 3.5 GHz http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117372 seems like good componets to get. 

    But I never used MSI motherboards before so I don't know how good they really are. I've only used Gigabyte and Asus. 

    If anyone has any suggestions that would be cheaper and still have equal performance or greater than what I have now, that would be greatly appreciated.

    As for Windows...I'm not too sure what I'll do there. But I'll probably just end up getting a copy of Win 10.

    So far, no crash yet even with lot of CPU intensive work. But this doesn't mean anything as sometimes it can go days and weeks without crashing. So I'll see in a couple weeks. But I probably just jinxed myself.

    Bummer, looks like I'm going to have to build a new system or replace the CPU at the very least. I'm not sure. 

    I did however have my RAM slightly overclocked..I completely forgot I did that so I went into the BIOS and removed that and changed it to auto..not sure if that could cause any issues with the CPU. I also notice the voltage seemed a little strange to me and I must have forgot to change the voltage back to stock or something when I did do overclocking at one point. But I set that back to auto as well and it hasn't crashed yet today. Been processing a TON of HD video today and no problems yet. 

    Hmm.

    Have any suggestions on what I should do?

    Hey Ya'll,

    I know it's been awhile since I've posted on this forum but I am in need of your expertise to help me figure out my computer's issues before I go waste money and build a whole new system. 

    First and foremost, my PC specs. 

    1. Intel Core i5-3570K
    2. G. Skill Ripjaws 16GB DDR3 2133 
    3. ASUS P8Z77-V LK
    4. 128GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD
    5. Nvidia GeForce GTX 750 Ti
    6. Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 

    I don't have anything overclocked. BIOS is updated to the most reason update. 

    I've normally been getting these BSOD with Minidumps once a month, now its happening 2-3 times a week, sometimes 3 times in a day but without BSOD or Minidump..PC will just freeze with sound on a constant loop. 

    I've ran Memtest-No error found, stress test - passed and other various tests and they all passed. Even downloaded Intel's CPU diagnostic tool which also passed. 

    I've checked out the minidumps with BlueScreenView and they all say caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe, except for the one I got this morning which was caused by hal.dll. 

    I've updated all the drivers I could, but for some reason windows keep installing a USB 3.0 driver from 2006?! I'm not sure if that is the cause or not. I already reinstalled Windows, more than once and still get these issues which leaves me to believe its either hardware or driver issue. 

    Here is a link to the mini-dumps I've zipped up if anyone is willing to have a more in-depth look at them..hopefully finding the root cause and hopefully its something that can be fixed before I build a whole new system.

    Should I overclock my i5 3570k?

    I have a Ivy i5 3570k which I guess is a pretty good CPU for overclocking. 

     

    I have the Turbo boost thing set at 4ghz, but I don't know if it even does anything. I find it all very confusing. 

     

    Is it better to overclock the cpu and disable turbo boost? Which would be faster? permanently overclocked at 3.8ghz/4ghz or stock 3.4ghz with boost at 4ghz? 

     

    I have a Asus P8Z77-V LK motherboard, XMP supported memory and a Corsair 650M psu. Also I use a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo. I think my cooling and setup can hand a overclock at 3.8ghz or even 4ghz. My CPU runs around 27c idle and if I'm making it work..it gets up to about 33-35c. Even on a hot summer day, I haven't seen it get pass 37c. 

     

    But I really don't know what I'm doing. I managed to suscfully get it at 3.5ghz by bumping up the BCLK but anymore than that it fails and I gotta hit the button on the motherboard to reset it. 

     

    If someone can help me to get it running stable at 3.8ghz or 4ghz if you think its safe and with out having turbo boost mode enabled, I would really appreciate it.  

     

    There is so many controls and I don't know what 80% of them do and there is just not that many tuts available on this particular setup. There are videos showing people overclocking it to like 4.7ghz, but its just turbo boost! Not an actual overclock.

    Errr :huh: ... that HD6970 was great to start with, it does video acceleration for Sony Vegas ;). PCI-E 3.0 isn't needed.

     

     

    Any way, the new cards are power less power hungry and should be less noisy.

     

    From what I was reading, AMD video cards are not fully supported by Adobe and cause problems from what other people were saying. I didn't want to take a chance..also like you said the Radeon HD6970 uses a lot more power and probably have louder fans. My system is pretty quiet, kind of want to keep it that way..so hopefully the Nvidia GTX 750 Ti SC does just that..plus I don't have to dig out my extra modular psu cables and because that HD6970 didn't have the right displayports, I'd have to get a new cable. The GTX-750 Ti SC doesn't require extra power, so I don't have to mess with my cable management. I can just install it and be on my way.

    Well my friend sent me the video card, but he accidentally sent me the wrong one. Sent a Radeon HD6970 instead. I got a little upset because he told me he was sending a GTX 670 which is a far, far better video card. But he made a honest mistake. But in his defensive, he gave me a expensive video card for nothing. But its not going to work for me, its older technology as well. Doesn't even use PCie 3.0. 

     

    So I just had enough and ordered a brand new one. I was trying to save some money, but can't always I guess. I ended up ordering the Nvidia Geforce GTX-750 Ti SC. I hear its a killer card for the money and works very well with adobe products and its decent at some games if I ever wanted to play a game someday on my PC. Atleast this card uses the new Maxwell core.

    The best wireless mouse?

    I buy shoes online as well yes, sometimes, but only if I know the brand and that the sizing is good :).

    Buying a case because it looks cool, sure, but I thought this was a computer freak forum? :D I hate sharp corners, flimsy plastic, painted plastic, holes not lining up, too crowded inside, cable management wrongly designed and more of those things like cooling options. I would care less about how much lights and bling it would have. I thought that this makes it personal ;).

     

    Thats why I like Fractal Design cases. I have a Arc Midi, but I think I might get a Define R5 because I like the design better.

    DDR3 2133 running at 1066?

    So I have 16gb (4x8) of G.Skill F3-17000CL9D PC3-17000, DDR-2133 1.65v installed on a ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard. 

     

    In the BIOS, I have it set to 2133 and I also selected the correct XMP profile and according to the bios, its running at 2133mhz at 1.65v. 

     

    But when I check it in Windows using CPU-Z, it says its running at 1066mhz at 1.5v. It also says its PC3-12800, not PC3-17000.  Windows does however show the correct timing of 9-11-10-28. 

     

    I can't figure it out. Hopefully someone here can help me so I can get the most of the ram! 

     

    EDIT: 

     

    So I think CPUZ shows the actual clock speed of the ram which would be 1066 but double that and its 2132..so maybe it is running at the right speed. But still weird that it shows its PC3-12800 and not PC3-17000.

    The best wireless mouse?

    I've been using the Logitech M310 wireless mouse for a while and its been working okay but ever since I moved my tower onto my desk, its been acting a bit strange. Also if I plug in a usb 3 2.5" hard drive into the front ports where the wireless dongle is, the mouse hardly works and I'm sure its due to the lack of power available. So I moved it to the two only usb 2.0 ports which are toward the top of cause which I imagine is for keyboards/mouse. It works, but it skips a lot acting as if there isn't enough power but if I bring the mouse closer, it will work fine. Its only a couple feet away so it shouldn't have this much of a problem. But maybe being back of the computer that is surrounded by walls of metal and cables probably degrades the signal just enough. I don't know. 

     

    I know...wired mouses are better. But I just don't want another cable going across my desk and also getting it snagged on something. I like the freedom!! 

     

    Anyways..for the ones who are using a wireless mouse, which ones do you like? 

     

    Couple months ago I bought the Logitech M510 which was suppose to be much better, but it was awful. Never worked right..always skipped. I could've just had a bad one..but didn't want to take the chance so I returned it and got my money back and now been researching for a better wireless mouse that has a stronger signal.

    Windows 10 crashes with no error

    Well after browsing around in the device manager, I noticed no chipset driver was installed. That was interesting. Came across something relating to the chipset and the driver was from 2012. Silly windows update. Went to asus and downloaded the latest intel chipset driver which I think was this month and installed it and now under device manager it shows the z77 chipset. Also the display driver was a version off, so I updated that. Hopefully these latest drivers will solve some of the issues I've been having. Fingers crossed!
