  1. Specs are meaningless, especially with archetectures that are so different, show me the games. I`ll probably buy all three but definatley the new Nintendo because I liked the DS and I like the direction Nintendo are taking things in.
  2. Quick question, are you slipstreaming a generic OEM cd or are you using a DELL OEM cd as the basis and slipstreaming that?
  3. Didn`t realise RyanVM had its own forum sorry, thanks for pointing me in the right direction Nazqul
  4. I used nlite, RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack and a copy of Windows XP Professional including Service pack 2 (a bona-fide CD from microsoft with service pack 2 already installed) to set up my PC, none of the tweaks etc were selected in nlite. I have also installed NOD32 Antivirus and Zonealarm firewall, and nothing else. Everything seems to be fine until I go and browse the network, I can see all the other computers on the network but if I click on a share and open it up, there is a couple of seconds pause then the hour glass appears, and a few moments after that (no more than a second) I get the dreaded "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" If I inspect the error report signiture it looks like this: AppName: explorer.exe AppVer6.0.2900.2527 ModName: twext.dll Modver: 6.0.3800.2627 Offset: 00008167 Interestingly, I can still browse the network share underneath the crash report window for a few moments, before it closes itself. I was even able to cut and paste a file from the network share before the window closed itself. I searched knowledge base for this issue and the resolution was "Install service pack 2" but the machine has been set up from a service pack 2 CD-ROM. Any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks in advance
  5. Stear well clear of anything to do with Norton and your usually ok, I think NOD is pretty much the best one, even better now with improved huristics and spyware detection. Norton is so poor i`m sick of fixing peoples machines who are running it and get clogged up with viri. Not only that, its bloaty, has had lots of security holes and when I used to run it, it randomly started deleting ALL my e-mails. In fact, I`d say Norton Antivirus has been more distructive than ANY virus i`ve ever encountered! The one or two people who say "I don`t need an antivirus I`m just careful" are living in their own little world. If your computers connected to the internet, you need antivirus, simple as that.
  6. Hi well I`ve made a few posts already but thought I would say hello in here. I`m Matt, from the UK, and i`m always fixing peoples PC`s The techniques and software I have gathered from here should prove useful (once i`ve got them working that is ) So far i`ve been very impressed with Nlite, despite some problems with it. Hopefully my input will contribute to the continued development of this great utility.
  7. I just tried again to modify a setting using the new setup I created, same problem with that too. Dissapointing having to start again each time maybe this will be fixed in a later version?
  8. Hi everyone I managed to create an unattended Windows XP install cd today using NLite. I started with a original XP Pro SP2 OEM CD, copied all the files to my hard drive, slipstreamed RyanVM's Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack as per his instructions (from http://ryanvm.msfn.org/updatepack.html) Created an ISO image and installed it on a virtual VMWare workstation and everything was good. Later, I went back into NLite to make some minor changes to the ISO (a few windows tweaks I wanted) I skipped the integration settings and left everything else as it was, save for changing some windows tweak settings (show file extentions for know file types, and show all files) I made the ISO again, and tried to install it, this time however, it got as far as "Setup is copying files" then instead of resetting I got the following message: "setup cannot set the required Windows XP configuration information. This indicates an internal setup error" I went back into NLite and changed the settings back to what they were, made another ISO and tried again, same error, I then went back into Nlite again and did the integration step again, same error. Frustrated, I deleted all the files from the XP directory and copied everything over and started from scratch. This time it worked. Why do you have to start from scratch like that? It takes a long time to integrate all the service packs and hotfixes, surely there is a better way than having to copy everything over again when you make a small change, or am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
