  1. The Lian li PC-61 USB looks good. Ill go with that.

As for the cooler I only plan to overclock to about 3 to 3.2 GHZ whatever I can get out of

the stock CPU voltage and from what I have read even the stock cooler would do this but

the AC 7 will do it quieter.

And still for the video the X1900XT 256 but I'm still reading the reviews.

    Thanks for the comments

Jcarle:- The P5W DH Delux only supports DDR2 533/667/800 and runs 1-1 with the DDR2-533 at 2.4GHZ

with a /9 divider (266X2). Conroe benifits from faster memory more than tighter timings which is why I went with the DDR2-800 memory instead of 667 which I would have to over clock to 711 at 3.2GHZ.

  2. I looked into the 7900gt and it seems there are a lot of heat related problems.

And I'm still wondering about the case

(I still have 3 weeks to go before I order, hopefuly RAM will drop a little more. )

Modem and floppy from old system, On-Board sound for now.

    Total so far $1767

It's been a while since my last post - modem problems.

  3. Several days ago my Modem ( Broadxent DI3631 )started to connect to the internet at only 16.8K and I usually had been connecting at over 40K. I down loaded Modem Doctor

And it reported that the highest speed my modem supported was 19.2K and the memory and the cpu on the modem had both failed. I thought, fine, Ill just take the DI3631 from my old computer that has not even been plugged in for over two years. I unplugged my newer computer installed the modem from my older machine and that modem is now completely dead. Reinstalled 16.8K bad modem – connects at 16.8K. Reinstalled now dead modem – still dead. Off to Newegg to order a new modem. I find it odd that these two modems that I had bought 5 years and one month ago would break at the same time.

Although this may not be the case because the totally dead modem could have died anytime in the last two years when it was not plugged in.

Thanks for listening, I feel better.

  4. Ripkin204, you're right about the hard drives that is what I meant to link to, I just saw the 7200.10

Video Card, the 7900gt might be a better idea

    http://www.pureoverclock.com/review.php?id=36&page=9

In Oblivion, it's only saving grace, the performance was quite impressive. The X1900 GT outperformed the 7900 GT by a large margin and instead traded blows with the X1800 XT 256MB. Sadly the X1900 GT performed rather poorly in the next three games, FEAR, HL2, and COD2. Most notable of these was FEAR, the 7900 GT was clearly faster and not just by a few frames per second, in fact a stock 7800 GT was faster in FEAR than the X1900 GT.

  5. I’m looking to build a new system and I could use some advice from experienced builders. My budget is about $1800 USD. I am looking to replace my old and slow PIII 600mhz 256Mb Rambus rd600, FX5500 256M video. (Doom 3 5FPS, not really playable, hoping to do better)

I mainly will use it for circuit board design and gaming. At the moment when I try to route a 16 layer 12X14 boards Orcad can take all night routing. This is what I have so far and I am open to your opinions and sugestions.

I should be ordering the system about the end of November when I get my bonus check.

  6. Sounds like power supply (leaky capacitors) I had an HP PSU do that once, when you hit the power button

the power light comes on for about one second and then goes out (comes on -goes out, comes on - goes out). And if it is the power supply, get one from Newegg, not Compaq. It will be less expensive and

more reliable. The HP one that I replaced was a micro-ATX style rated at 145 Watts! Never saw a power supply rated as low as 145 watts in a desk top.

  7. The picture means that if you can vary your Vcore add a 51K ohm resistor

As shown in the picture. “R” is the resistor and the red lines are the resistors leads.

And if you cannot vary your Vcore try a resistor between 5 and 12K ohm there.

But remember as in ripkin204's link-

  8. I found the program last week and there is an english version. I did a Google search and

hit the (translate this page) untill I found Portfree production english. I don't remember which one that

it was, but it was on the first page of Google results. I have it at home and if I remember I will try to send it to you tonight.

  9. heavyuser "maxtor 4 gig over 10 years old and still working"

4 gig flash drive over 10 years old?

The flash drive was first invented in 1998 by Dov Moran, President & CEO of M-Systems Flash Pioneers (Israel). Dan Harkabi, who is now a Vice President at SanDisk, led the development and marketing team at M-Systems. His most significant contribution was that the product be self-reliant and free of the need to install drivers. Nearly simultaneous development of similar products was undertaken at Netac and at Trek 2000, Ltd. All three companies have similar and disputed patents. IBM was the first North American seller of a USB flash drive, and marketed an 8 MB version of the product in 2001 under the "Memory Key" moniker. IBM later introduced a 16 MB version manufactured by Trek 2000, and returned to M-Systems for the 64 MB version in 2003. Lexar can also lay claim to a USB flash drive product. In 2000 they introduced a Compact Flash (CF) card having an internal USB function. Lexar offered a companion card reader and USB cable that eliminated the need for a USB hub.

  10. Well thanks for the programs unfortunately neither did any good.

The Sandisk utility – USB drive test returned the error

    “Unable to locate USB drive”

The PortFree production program recognized that there was a drive there and returned

this error when trying to do a low level format.

    ERR: 10001

    Control ID A8062,103

    Unknown Flash

Anyway, my new flash drive will be here tomorrow, Thanks for the help!

  11. Hi guys, I have a problem with a SanDisk mini cruzer 1GB windows recognizes the

drive as drive E, which is correct but in the device manager it is reported as

    Disk type – removable

    Status – no media

    Partition style- not applicable

    Capacity – 0

    Unallocated space – 0

    Reserved space – 0

There are no X or! Next to it and it is reported as working properly.

If I try to format it in windows XP the error is:

There is no disk in drive E

Insert a disk and then try again.

When I use the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool V2.0.6 the description is

Generic USB Flash Drive 1.04 (0 MB) (E:\)

And when I try to format with HP the error is:

There is no media in the specified device.

I have also tried this on my Win98 machine with the same results.

Does anyone have any ideas, or is it time to get a new flash drive?

    Thanks in advance
