  1. Hai, I've had more or less the same problem as I was looking for a util like PMagic which would do the job on server 2003, and I found that PartitionExpert (by Acronis) works fine as long as you want to perform your basic partitioning activities. So even if you've already installed w2k3 you can still create new partitions, that is if you have any harddrive space left .... Good luck
  2. I haven't had any real problems the last few months with using Server2003 and XP drivers. And Visual Studio .Net works like a breeze However most retail versions of antivirus software won't work with server 2003. I had quit a hard time finding a decent antivirus program which would actually work on win2k3 and which was to my likings. I ended up with AVG antivirus which I think is doing a fine job (at least so far, I haven't had any virusses lately and that with all the growing virus-activity and a 24/7 server .... )
  3. Right, PartitionExpert doesn't support dynamic drives, but I guess none of the third party partition-programms really could, since dynamic drives can be combined and split any which way, without having to worry about the physical partitions. So I guess the only true option is to start all over and make sure this time I get my partitions right from the very first instance and not using dynamic drives, so I can use PartitionExpert at a later stage if that proves to be necessary. th@nx for your replies
  4. I am running my network in workgroup mode. Haven't got to the domain-thingie yet (yep, I'm just getting started with this server-stuff, but I'm a quick learner ) But I think that it shouldn't really matter Even in workgroup mode you should be able to share printers without having to logon to the server each time. I'll look into the tip of creating just one user in one usergroup, but as far as I know I haven't created the same user in multiple usergroups. The search continues ...
  5. OK th@nx Merlin, in that case I think I'll first try PartitionExpert before starting all over and do a new install. By the way, could you tell me if PE can handle dynamic discs (where you can merge two partitions into one driver-letter etc.)? Again th@nx for the quick reply
  6. Hi All, I've got the following "issue" which I can't seem to figure out myself. I have a home network of 3 computers: - 1 server, running on Windows Server 2003 - 1 desktop, running on Windows XP Professional - 1 laptop, running on Windows XP Home I have installed the printersoftware and drivers (Canon i850) on the server machine and connected the printer to the server with USB. In my setting I have shared the printer for all users in the network, giving the group 'users' all rights. However, when I want to print a document from the laptop or desktop, I get the message that the printer is not available. But when I first manually connect to the server (via explorer --> network --> server), then there's no problem at all. Obviously this has something to do with user-rights and all that, especially since I have to enter a username & password when I want to connect to the server. However I can't seem to solve this by appointing rights to users, owners, administrators or whatever. So what am I doing wrong here?
  7. Hi, I understand that the windows Disk Management solution works fine when you want to format and partition a new disk. But what if you want to change the size and/or location of the existing partitions on your primary disk? PartitionMagic used to perform a great job on WinXP, but I haven't found a good working solution for server 2003 (except doing a complete re-install but that's no real option ) I have already tried VolumeManager (also by Powerquest) but when I try to install that I get the message "VolumeManager is currently not suited for Windows XP" I was thinking about trying PartitionExpert but since you're advising not to ... (by the way for what reasons do you advise not to use it?) ... and now I'm left puzzled on how to easily manage my partitions? Help and suggestions would be very, very much appriciated
