  1. You can add /s, (so it will look like this shockwave.exe /s for example) to the file to install it silently, however, Yahoo toolbar will still be installed. I then added this to my cleanup & rebooting command file, however I have not been able to supress the uninstall YES/NO dialog box that pops up. rundll32.exe C:\\PROGRA~1\\Yahoo!\\Companion\\Installs\\cpn0\\ycomp5_3_19_0.dll,DllCommand ui At the moment it's the best that I've been able to come up with, short of rolling back to the previous version of Shockwave.
  2. Alternatively go to this site which has a list of pretty much all the Stop codes and what can cause them to occur. Windows STOP Error codes
  3. OK I could really do with some suggestions now, because this is driving me nuts. Every variation of an unattended XP install has had the same problem. My latest attempt consisted of SP1 with Gosh's method for slipstreaming the rollup. Below is my Winnt.sif file, which I think is pretty run of the mill. ;SetupMgrTag[Data] AutoPartition=0 MsDosInitiated="0" UnattendedInstall="Yes" [unattended] UnattendMode=FullUnattended OemSkipEula=Yes OemPreinstall=Yes TargetPath=\WINDOWS UnattendSwitch=Yes WaitForReboot=No OemPnPDriversPath=Drivers\Display;Drivers\Audio;Drivers\IDE;Drivers\GART;Drivers\MemCtl;Drivers\USB;Drivers\SMBus;Drivers\Ethernet KeyboardLayout="United Kingdom" DriverSigningPolicy=Ignore Includecatalog=KB826939.cat [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=* EncryptedAdminPassword=NO OEMSkipRegional=1 TimeZone=85 OemSkipWelcome=1 [userData] ProductKey= FullName="Joe Bloggs" OrgName="" ComputerName=Primary [Display] BitsPerPel=32 Xresolution=1024 YResolution=768 Vrefresh=100 [RegionalSettings] LanguageGroup=1 Language=00000809 [identification] JoinWorkgroup=WORKGROUP [Networking] InstallDefaultComponents=No [TerminalServices] AllowConnections=0 [shell] DefaultStartPanelOff = Yes DefaultThemesOff = Yes [NetAdapters] Adapter1=params.Adapter1 [params.Adapter1] INFID=* [NetProtocols] MS_TCPIP=params.MS_TCPIP [params.MS_TCPIP] DNS=No UseDomainNameDevolution=No EnableLMHosts=Yes AdapterSections=params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter1 [params.MS_TCPIP.Adapter1] SpecificTo=Adapter1 DHCP=No IPAddress= SubnetMask= DefaultGateway= DNSServerSearchOrder= WINS=No NetBIOSOptions=0 [Components] Rec=off Dialer=Off Msmsgs=off Msnexplr=off Mousepoint=Off Freecell=off Hearts=off Minesweeper=off Pinball=off Spider=off Zonegames=off Deskpaper=Off Clipbook=off Charmap=off Hypertrm=off Templates=off Media_clips=off Media_utopia=OffEven with this seemingly simple XP install, i get the following error when Windows first starts. 4. I had the very same problem, even after I told it to "Always use the selected program.......". It would still prompt me to select a program and it was driving me just a little nuts. Anyway I found and squashed the problem and now I have piece of mind. Heres what I did. Go to Explorer, Tools, then Folder Options. Click on File Types and scroll down to the extention you want, AVI for example. Select it and then click the advanced button. Select Open and click edit, now remove the switch I've highlighted in bold from the "application used to perform action" dialog "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:8 /Open "%L" this shold leave it looking like this "C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /Open "%L" Click OK and do the same for Play Now hopefully clicking an AVI file will open it in WMP, rather than asking you for a program. Just apply this to any extentions that are causing you grief.
  5. I wanted to do the same thing as you XtremeMac. I've never appreciated the Windows sounds and always turn them off at the earliest convenience. I just tested this registry entry and it does indeed disable all Windows sounds. Now I'll be the first to admit that it's not pretty and can probably be trimmed down somewhat. But at least it is a base you can work off of. 6. Can I assume that there is no problem combining the SP1 Rollup with my existing SVCPack.Inf, minus the now redundant files of course. The only slight worry is that in the unattended guide, it tells us to use makecab on the finished inf file to turn it into Svcpack.in_. Where as the rollup guide tells us to just place the svcpack.inf file as is into the I386 directory. Which is correct or does it not matter ? Here is how my DOSNET.INF file now looks. The files listed in the rollup guide have been copied in at the bottom as stated. [OptionalSrcDirs] Update And this is what my cabbed Svcpack.inf looks like [SetupData] CatalogSubDir="I386\UPDATE" [ProductCatalogsToInstall] KB826939.cat [SetupHotfixesToRun] update.exe -q -n JS56NEN.EXE /Q:A /R:N Q327979.EXE /Q /U /Z /N Q330994.EXE /Q:A /R:N Q816093.EXE /Q:A /R:N Q817287.EXE /Q:A /R:N Q817778.EXE /Q /U /Z /N Q823182.EXE /Q /U /Z /N Q824141.EXE /Q /U /Z /N Q825119.EXE /Q /U /Z /N Q828750.EXE /Q:A /R:N QCHAIN.EXE Based on the reply Aaron posted, this is what the Dosnet/Svcpack files should look like. Well the basic structure anyway. Just chuck all your updates into the update folder.
  7. Thanks alot guys. It had completely slipped my mind about the OEMPNP method. One other point I'd like to make, is how refreshing it is to be in a community where you don't have to be afraid to ask questions, even ones that may seem over simplistic. Once again thanks to everyone for your input in this.
  8. I have recently upgraded to an NForce 2 Asus Motherboard. I noticed that the Nvidia network drivers needed to be installed after Windows had finished installing. Is it possible to integrate the drivers into my CD, so they are present and correct with my Windows Installation. Nvidia NIC drivers jedih2rx.bin, jedireg.pat, nvenet2k.inf, nvenet.cat, NVENET.sys & ramsed.bin If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be extremely grateful.
  9. Yeah, thats more or less what I concluded. I went back to the unattended site and looked at it a bit closer. Still it does seem weird that it should have chosen an almost full drive over a completely blank one. Anyway I'll adjust the .sif and it should all come together. Thanks for confirming what I suspected. It's late, so I'll post my findings tomorrow.
  10. Thats the funny thing. Drive C was freshly formatted. Drive D had enough free space to install XP, but I assumed XP would install itself to the Primary purely out of logic. Yeah I know Logic and MS products in harmony ?? what was I thinking!
  11. ok, My unattended CD works, almost. As far as functioning as an unattended install it does the job, the only problem is that it unfortunately decided to install itself onto my Slave drive, rather than my primary. The drives in question are both PATA and are not in any kind of raid configuration. I would imagine it's simply something I need to adjust in the winnt.sif file somewhere. 12. I've tried 5 different CD's so far in a multitude of software/driver combinations, but the sme thing keeps happening in all cases. Whenever I run the CD, it gets up to the part of the install where it's copying the temporary files over to the HDD. It comletes the standard windows files and then commences to copy over my files and directories in the $OEM$ dir. As soon as it finishes, Setup blue screens on me with an error. The error states that a Write was attempted on a readonly file, namely setupdd.exe. As I mentioned at the start I've tried a variety of branded and non-branded CD's and a host of differing software/driver combos. I've checked and rechecked everything and I'm forced to throw it open to everyone here. Can anyone help save me from the premature hairloss, this situation is causing.
  13. That did sorted the little sucker out!!! Thankyou very much for all your help. I was always convinced that the solution would end up being a simple one and you've happily proved it to be the case. I really do appreciate the time you've taken to help me out.
  14. I must admit I tried something like that, but it didn't work out properly. Could you possibly give me an example of how the autorun could look ? I would certainly appreciate it.
  15. Thankyou for your quick response. I tried your suggestion and then a number of my own ideas, but unfortunately whenever I tested them, (I used the install command after right clicking autorun.inf) all I have had for my troubles is an error box with installation failed. It would appear that the only way I'll be able to create an unattended install for OfficeXP is to eventually buy a DVD recorder and make it part of a Windows Super disc.
  16. setup.exe TRANSFORMS=E:\Unattended.MST /qb- This is the command line I want to use. E is my CDROM drive letter. I just need to figure out how to insert it into the Office CD so that it will autorun with that, rather than just standard setup.exe. I'm sure it's probably going to be a very simple solution, but I'd like to get this right before I start burning.
  17. I happened to stumble across this site completely by accident. It has a good guide for the various install routines along with the accompanying switches. there is also a nice list of software with how to's on silent installing. Some of it has been covered in the guide here on MSFN, but there are quite a few that haven't. Anyway take a look and I'll leave it up to you to decide on it's usefulness. Application Deployment Guides
  18. I'm not quite sure how to place the command line into officexp to get it working correctly. I'm pretty sure it goes in the Autorun.inf as shown below, but i'm not sure how to correctly modify it. The fact that the setuppro.exe is mentioned numerous times has somewhat thrown me. As this Office disc I am making is NOT intended to be part of a WinXP unattended installation, I am hoping someone can fill in the gap for me.
