  1. I also still get WFP popups, when I insert any USB device it asks for the windows CD, but the strange thing is it doesn't recover any files? And the usb device is working perfectly. (Even if I cancel the popup window it works perfectly and the popup doesn't reappear) So what I did now is suppressed the WFS popups: System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] Value Name: SFCDisable Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value) Value Data: 0 = enabled (default) Value Data: 1 - disabled, prompt at boot to re-enable Value Data: 2 - disabled at next boot only, no prompt to re-enable Value Data: 4 - enabled, with popups disabled Value Data: ffffff9d = disabled NOTE: Changing the SFCDisable parameter in the registry is not enough (like most sites mentioning) at least not enough for XP+SP2. This switch is disabled by "SFC_OS.DLL". By changing "SFC_OS.DLL" it can be enabled again. NOTE2: if you want to imbed this into your installation CD (like I did) don't forget to modify the checksum of "SFC_OS.DLL" and modify the regkey "SFCDisable" in "HIVESFT.INF" For XP+SP2 See: http://www.wown.com/articles_tutorials/Twe...ection-SP2.html For older versions http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/790/ P.S. for all the monitoring freaks you can still check the WFS behaviour in the eventviewer (nuhi: maybe suppressing the popups would be a nice extension for the patch section of nLite) For those who want to know more about WFS & SFC check this link: http://www.petri.co.il/what's_windows_..._protection.htm
  2. I already got an idea on how to to it. first read out the SFCFILES.DLL contents an verify it with an modified XP image, that way I can filter out the files that are not included on the modified image.
  3. Check this one to remove certain files from SFC: http://www.bitsum.com/aboutwfp.asp#Hack_Method_5 I'm planning to write a tool to remove files from SFCFILES.DLL automatically (if I find the time). An overview of files removed by nlite would be very helpfull for this.
  4. I also performed "sfc /scannow" command to check what files are missing. and I discovered that it are in most cases the files of components I removed. (like games, etc) see my nlite Preset File. _20_6_05_.ini I used. the scannow resulted in following missing files on the nlited installCD: c:\windows\msagent\intl\agt0401.dll 5. The WFP problem is still persisting. In 99% of the cases the protection only asks for the CD but it doesn't recover any files from it ??? (at least not detected with filemon or no traces in eventviewer) TIP: Maybe this will help people who doesn't want to turn off WFP Copy the i386 dir from the install cd to your HDD and add the newly created path to following regkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\Installation Sources I haven't tried it yet but it could be worth a try. Keep us informed
  6. Nope I didn't remove Frontpage Extension. For the testingI only removed the unneeded dirs: DOCS SUPPORT VALUEADD and the components: Games Internet Games Pinball slipstreamed SP2 & added hotfixes (Indvidual KB*.EXEs, Not RyanVM CAB) The dllcach dir is only +/-59MB I did the debugging with version 1.0.b2 (I have the same prob with 0.9.99 & 1.0.b1) Here is a preset file I used for a secondary test with the same conclusions: [Main] Env 7. I monitorred this with filemon and noticed that only 1 file from the install cd is accessed "WIN51IP.SP2" (a 2bytes file in the rootdir) but the log also shows that the file fp4autl.dll was not found & recreated in (not from) the directory system32\dllcache Then I checked with eventviewer and found following error: Error (system) Windows Setup encountered non-fatal errors during installation. Please check the setuperr.log found in your Windows directory for more information. setuperr.log Error: Setup detected that the system file named [c:\windows\system32\syssetup.dll] is not signed properly by Microsoft. This file could not be restored to the correct Microsoft version. Use the SFC utility to verify the integrity of the file. When I cancel the WFS popup I get the above error + the error below Error (application) Product: WebFldrs XP -- Error 1933. The Windows Installer service cannot update one or more protected Windows files. SFP Error: 3. List of protected files:\r\nc:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\bin\fp4autl.dll and in the filemon logging i see that the file syssetup.dll was recreated in (not from) the directory system32\dllcache (which is not done when I insert the XP CD when WFS asks for it. other conclusions: As soon I use one of the sections: - Integrate Drivers - Remove Components - Patches - Tweaks the following Regkey is added in the Hivefile "HIVESFT.INF" HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon","SfcDisable",0x00010001,0xFFFFFF9D Could this be causing the problem? I also checked the registry at the first login at the moment the WFS pops up and SfcDisable is set to 0 (enabled) FYI: This is info found on http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/790 Change the value of "SFCDisable" to equal "ffffff9d" to disable WFS or "0" to enable it. The other valid hexadecimal values are: # 1 - disabled, prompt at boot to re-enable # 2 - disabled at next boot only, no prompt to re-enable # 4 - enabled, with popups disabled # ffffff9d - for completely disabled BTW: When I use the patch to disable SFC the following Regkey is added to HIVESFT.INF HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon","SfcSetting",0x00010001,0xffffff9d What is the difference between SfcDisable & SfcSetting?
  8. What is the difference between the regkeys SFCDisable & SFCSetting?
  9. Perhaps, but for me: XP + SP2 + Hotfixes(KB*.EXE) - a couple components + a couple tweaks = BAD No special drivers or external hacks/configuration were used. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> XP+SP2+Hotfixes (Indvidual KB*.EXEs, Not RyanVM CAB) = OK works fine with me Javaaddiction: It seems that the problem lies somewhere in both the remove components and tweaks part. I'm gonna try: XP + SP2 + Hotfixes(KB*.EXE) + Drivers right now
  10. That is what I tried but it doesn't fix the problem. I installed XP with WFS disabled. Afterwards I enable WFS. I restart XP and BANG there it is again It's driving me mad and I need WFS enabled I did some more tests to find the source of it. (OK = NO WSF popups) (BAD = WFS popups) XP+SP2 = OK XP+SP2+unattend = OK XP+SP2+unattend+tweaks = BAD XP+SP2+unattend+remove Components = BAD XP+SP2+Hotfixes (Indvidual KB*.EXEs) = OK XP + SP2 + Hotfixes(KB*.EXE) + Drivers = BAD
  11. The same problem with version 0.99.9b
  12. I just tried it without success the first time I boot up after I enabled WFS (see code) WFS asks again for the XP CD [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "SFCDisable" = 0x00000001
  13. I also facing the same problem here with nLite 1.0b1 & 1.0b2 No one found a solution yet? Anyone tried installing xp with WFS disabled & enabling it after installation?
