I still would like to know just why the status fonts in Termy's setup screens look vastly different even though he hasn't changed one part of the two strings from the original DLL. Is it a Windows Server 2003 thing? Can you only get smaller fonts in that particular OS?

Ah, they must've very recently updated the links then. It provided slightly different URLs before which both 404ed on moi. Doesn't look like the pack's been updated in any way though (checked through WinZip and all dates are still 2001.). Wonder why it was taken down then brought back up? And another question to ask: does this pack also work with WMP8?

My DLL states "5.1.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148)". Your DLL carries "5.2.3790.0 (srv03_rtm.030324-2048)". I take it you have a drastically different version of XP internal wise?

You know how you can choose to look at all your folders in either one main window or in seperate windows (Windows 9x style)? Well, I'd like to make the latter the default option in my unattended setup but I for the life of me haven't a clue as to where it stores the particular information for this setting. Does it store in the registry or someplace else? All help is very much appreciated, thanks.

I'm confused - I compared your DLL to the original DLL off my original XP CD and both strings you reference display the exact same figures and font titles. I'm not sure what's there to change exactly.

I discovered lately that there's some sort of bonus pack for WMP9. But the two download links provided on Microsoft's site don't appear to work. What does this pack do exactly, and why does it seem like MS removed it from their servers? Was there something wrong with the pack that they had to withdraw it?

Okay then, but I have a small feeling it could be something else, as the same thing happened with a custom WINNTBBU.DLL I made myself. I could've provided it here but there doesn't seem to be an "attach item" function on this board, nor do I have any spare webspace of my own (except for PageProducer, but I think that'll only allow pics).

Hey Termy, I can't seem to download any of your setup screen replacements from your WinZone site. It says something regarding "Requested File exceeds 256Kb" or something like that anyway. Don't tell me that NetFirms is adopting a Geocities-style bandwidth limit function?

I was testing a custom-made XP ISO through Virtual PC 5.2. Everything appears to be going smoothly, except at one particular part. GUI-mode setup seems to start off okay, and slowly but surely goes through the routine, except that it always seems to get stuck at a certain point - this point is shown in the capture provided. I wait ages and ages but it never progresses any further. The lights in the bottom-right corner remain animated throughout, so it's not like an almighty major freeze. I don't know if it's because I'm using a modified WINNTBBU.DLL here. I'm pretty sure that the first time I installed XP through VPC it got throught GUI-mode setup perfectly, albeit I was using the normal WINNTBBU.DLL at the time, and was also running off a written CD and not an ISO image. I closely examined both winnt.sif and everything in the $OEM$ directory, and couldn't find any mistakes whatsoever. So this appears to be a mystery. Could anyone be able to explain what exactly I'm doing wrong here?

You know how, by default, XP usually places My Documents first on the desktop layout, with My Computer below? Well, although there's a switch to change the order these two appear on the screen, I'd like to be able to have that set up during the unattended preparation. Does anyone know if this setting is stored in the registry, and if so, where it is and what switches are used? Thanks.

They also appear to have a patch for DirectX 8.1 users as well. It appears I must not have been looking closely, as eventually I managed to find an NT version of DirectX 8.1b on Microsoft's joint.

Well, I saw the message provided from opening that link, but nothing else actually happened. Maybe it's because I share a broadband connection with my sister (our computers are connected to each other technically), who appears to use a hardware firewall of sorts? I came across this a couple of days back - is this what you were talking about Aaron?

*sigh* Tried it yesterday, and it appears my fears are confirmed .... the patch stops IE from reading the extra additions like audio/prs.sid and audio/x-mod properly in [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type]. They are pointed to CLSID (REG_SZ) = {06DD38D3-D187-11CF-A80D-00C04FD74AD8}. Without the patch this would make IE play Netscape-style plugins flawlessly, but no more.

This looks to be a really tough cookie. The first window looked very Inno Setup to me, but I just tested the Inno switches on it and, well, no dice. Still pops up the same screen/windows.
