  1. Thank you for your input. It is as always appreciated. And please don't misunderstand, I am sure that all questions and requests in this regard has nothing to do with only harvesting the benefits of other people's work, or in the lack of interest or effort with contributing. Actually, I thought that is what we are doing if only just by showing our interest, futile input or requests. I for one is very much in appreciation of the effort already put into this and other projects, as well as I am grateful for the work that has been put into all projects such as the BCD (Bart), flyakite etc. If my knowledge and ability reach the level required, I would be happy to pitch in whenever and in any way possible. Unfortunately that is not the case for the time being anyway. By no means did I or anyone else for that matter in this regard had any intentions requesting everything served on a plate, but when the knowledge and level of expertise is minimal or none-existent in this area, there is not much we can do. It is not the will or intentions that are lacking, trust me on that. Thank you for your time, and to all you guys out there working on these projects, I hereby give thanks to all of you for your efforts. You are all greatly appreciated in more than one way. Please keep it up, and let us pitch in, even if it is only for trial and error reporting. Thanks.
  2. Why don't you actually READ the given links? Or, maybe better, start from this thread: http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=133309 Both the batches and the WinsetupfromUSB GUI app allow to add easily a number of other Os to a USB stick, and more versions of install files. jaclaz Hi Jaclaz Well, actually I did read the links, and I have searched and read hundreds and hundreds of webpages and forum posts the last week or so. And like I mentioned in my first post, I have not yet succeeded in making a multiboot USB installation point with a menu from boot up. Further, the problem about the most of these methods are, that if you change something to the OS (Service Pack, drivers etc.), you have to do the procedure all over again from scratch. And as you might know, that takes a fair amount of time compared to that of the DVD, as these changes are done to the harddrive before making the DVD (flyakite.msfn.org). It is much easier to maintain and change seen from a simplicity perspective. The simplicity of the DVD is much easier for even newbies to understand and apply whereas the different scripts, including the WinSetupFromUSB GUI are like I said necessary to run each time you want to change something. And if you don't understand the scripts, it is easy to be suspicious about viruses, malicious code etc. Actually I was unlucky myself, downloading a few archives with virus when I was actually trying to download what was supposed to be a FATformatter. Or maybe just my bad luck? If WinSetupFromUSB GUI would take another approach to the usability, especially the directory and file structure of the USB stick after applying it, then that would help a great deal. But the best would of course be a guide like that of the flyakite, so people who use it actually would have a chance being able to understand what they are doing. Including myself. Thank you.
  3. Hi I have been looking for something similar in order to multiboot from USB. I have used the http://flyakite.msfn.org/ and set up a DVD perfectly for as long as I can remember now, but the image-making takes up too much time compared to a USB stick that does not need any image-making. After searching the msfn.org and Google for 3-4 days now, I have not yet been able to make a multiboot USB that works. A single OS is no problem using the guides here, but the multiboot option is obviously another matter, and I am way in over my head so far. Is there no "easy" way to convert or otherwise duplicate the idea and concept of the http://flyakite.msfn.org/ into USB? Thanks.
  4. Hi fizban2 Thank you so much. That did it. A thought please. I checked XP, 2k etc. and I can see, that this device is by default enabled in all of them. It seems to be a system device enabled at startup. Do you have any idea to why this function has this exact effect only on the Srv2k3 and not any other of the windows OS? Thanks again for your insight.
  5. I followed the tutorial to the letter as shown here: http://win2k3.msfn.org/ Just in case, I checked the entire tutorial again. Everything seems to be in accord with the guide. Further I tried to find a better driver. That did not change anything. Phenomenon still persist.
  6. Maybe I should add, that this phenomenon only happens, when I use the mouse for moving the volume bar. If I click above the bar or below the bar to move it in steps, I get the "error"-like sound every time. Other means of adjusting the sound works as would be expected.
  7. Hi all. A bit of a weird problem I. I have succesfully installed both w2k, xp etc. several times on a great number of oem machines. This includes server as well as home, pro etc. Also installed wSrv2k3 as servers without a hassle using unattended. So no problems there. But, I recently setup a test computer on a laptop in order to test out R2 and a few installation scripts. I got carried away and tried the WorkStation conversion. So far no problems except one small annoying one. Whenever I try to adjust the sound (volume) I hear a beep. This comes up all the time. I have tried to check the services, registry, compare with the registry dump of XP etc. but so far I cannot seem to find a way to get rid of this sound (or error). I have never ever experienced anything like this on any other installation regardless of OS. NOTE: The sound works otherwise fine for regular music cd's. Other windows sounds, such as Windows Startup works fine as well. So sound works. SOUND DESCRIPTION: The error sound is similar to that of a stationary computer (desktop) with no soundcard installed using the internal sound speaker to announce errors. It sure puzzles me, and I must say that even this is perhaps not a problem I would get paid to solve, I indeed want to solve this one. Call it a fight between man and machine if you please. Man over machine. Any and all help would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks.
  8. What exactly do you mean by the "ident" files? I copied the entire CD02 into the shared folder, so if such files exist, they should already be in the folder I guess? Structure of the folder looks like this: $OEM$ ADMIN CMPNENTS DOCS I386 PRINTERS SUPPORT VALUEADD AUTORUN.INF R2AUTO.EXE R2README.HTM READ1ST.HTM RELNOTES.HTM SETUP.EXE SETUPSTANDARD.HTM SLIPSTREAM.INF WIN51 WIN51IS WIN51IS.SP1 WIN51IS.SP2 WIN52IS.R2 The CMPNENTS folder looks like this: CMPNENTS\R2 As mentioned in my initial post, all installation commenses perfectly, except after installation, a window popup. I then have to click NEXT, accept the EULA of the R2 installation and then click NEXT again. Then R2 completes, and I have to click FINISH. Its that exact dialogue window/box and those 4 clicks I would very much like to get rid off. I just wonder if there is a way for that? Thanks for your time.
  9. Hi All Successfully integrated SP2 on Windows Server 2003 shared installation folder. Copied the R2 disk (entire contents) into the same folder. Everything works perfectly as it is supposed to according to M$ documention. One thing I cannot seem to solve myself is, that after the server installs perfectly (unattended.txt) and the R2 installation dialog box pops up, I have to press OK before the actual installation of R2 can proceed. In my unattended.txt file, I have NO lines in the [GuiRunOnce] section in regard to installation of R2. This seems not necessary, as the R2 installation starts automatically after installing the Server normally. I guess this has something to do with the SP2 being integrated, and that I am using the R2 key in my Unattended.txt file. At present, everything installs, except R2 until I press the dialog box. After I click the dialog box, the installation completes. Is it in any way possible to make that dialog box go away and silently install R2 together with everything else? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  10. Thanks for replying. The floppy can be read on other computers, and I can use other floppies on my own, booting etc. For the installation I change the boot setting of the bios in order to not boot from floppy but from cd instead before I attempt the install. On my own computer everything works fine (reading the winnt.sif file from floppy), at least until the command call from the cmdlines.txt. The command file (placed in the root of my floppy) called from cmdlines.txt (placed of course in the root of $oem$ directory) does not start up. I am pretty sure that the cmdlines.txt is processed as the indicator of the floppy lights up, but the command file called from the cmdlines.txt is not executed somehow. This problem exists only on my own computer, and not on the 3 computers used to test the floppy and cd. My guess is, that something is wrong between the destination called from the cmdlines.txt (A:\) and the actual place of the floppy. I just don't know how to solve this problem, if indeed that is the problem. If it is a bios setting, which is set wrong, what would then be a good idea to take a closer look at? Thanks for the help guys.
  11. Dear guys My problem with the unattended installation of Windows 2000 Professional is at this moment impossible for me to solve on my own. I would appreciate any and all help on the subject. This is my situation: I lost my floppy (it gave up, stopped working, no backup), then had to re-create everything, reg-files, cmd-files, Winnt.sif files etc. Everything done. Created CD using unattended.msfn.org and some of my own adjustments. Everything checked out, both according to the unattended guide and to practical tests using in total 3 different computers. My own computer still will not comply to the installation though. PROBLEM: The installation runs smoothly until the point when the cmdlines.txt is to be executed. It seems to be executed, as the floppy indicator lights up, but the commandfile in the cmdlines.txt is strangely enough (or so it seems) not executed. That means, that my reg-tweaks are not installed, neither are the windows updates (such as ASPI, MSN Messenger, WMP, WME etc.), and the temp files are not deleted after installation (clean up). The cd and floppy has been tested on 3 different computers, and here the installation runs perfectly every time. Cmdlines.txt looks like this: [Commands] "A:\Cmdlines.cmd" First configuration: Gigabyte GA-7ZX-1(Rev.1.01) board, 3x256MB RAM modules, Plextor CD/RW drive, teac floppy drive, AMD Athlon (Thunderbird) 900 MHz, Chill Innovation 510 Watt Power Supply, Maxtor 80GB ATA100 drive. HD/CD plugged in as Master on IDE1 (HD) and IDE2 (CD). Because of problems during unattended I tried to change cables, cd-drive, hd-drive, cd-rom (created new cd on another media), changed floppy, changed the settings of BIOS and I even changed the PSU. Same problem. Then I changed the board. New configuration: ASRock K7VT4A Pro, RAM 2x512MB PC3200, everything else is the same. Same problem, then I once again tested everything, changed the hardware and even once again made a new cd (used entirely new media as well), starting from scratch, tested, checked and re-checked the scripts, reg-files etc. but found no errors. Then checked the cd and the floppy using 3 different computers. All installed perfectly. Then I figured the only thing I had not changed yet, was the CPU. So, I purchased an AMD Sempron 2800+, put it in the ASRock board configuration. Booted up, partitioned the HD, and still same problem. I have tried to change the bios to latest on both boards. The strange thing is, that on the board (GA-7ZX-1) I have installed unattended hundreds of times without problems, but now seems to be impossible on both boards (also ASRock). The most strangest thing is, that the installation runs perfectly on other computers. But the very same cd and floppy does not function on mine. No matter what cd-drive or floppy drive I use. I even tried switching to the cd-drive from my friends computer, still same problem. In the bios, I have even tried just using default settings, but still same problem persists. It seems to me, that the problem might be found some place I either do not know exist, or perhaps I overlook something because I think what I have done is correct thus making my error search ineffective. But I cannot understand why the floppy, cd, scripts (CMD) etc. all works perfectly on other computers, but not on my own. Any and all help or thoughts on this unbreakable nutshell will be most appreciated. Thanks.
  12. Thanks for the input. Unfortunately I still have the same problem. As I am using the W2000 Pro, I cannot use the switch "UnattendSwitch = Yes" as suggested. I believe this switch is for WinXP only? When I first made my CD and the scripts, I was following the guide on MSFN.org. But since then the guide has been altered completely, and now the solution to my problem does not seem to be there. Unfortunately I do not remember who made the guide at the time, but I guess he must have the information, which I need? So if you are reading this, please post your suggestions. Thanks.
  13. Hi guys. I hope someone is able to help me with this both annoying and unfathomable problem I have. I know this topic has been posted before, but none of the offered solutions work. I am stuck completely. My problem is, that I have the CD (Windows 2000 pro with SP4 integrated). My $oem$ directory is in the root, and I have the $$ and $1 directories as well. Inside $1 is placed directories Drivers and Install. Drivers is obvious but inside Install I have WMP, MSN Messenger etc. to install using cmdlines.txt. The cmdlines.txt is placed inside the $oem$ root side by side with directories Drivers and Install. When installing, all drivers are installed perfectly. But the cmdlines.txt is not parsed somehow. I know that my batchfile is correct, as I can call it without any problems whatsoever from an open command prompt. Thus all commands in there must be correct. My problem is, that I cannot get cmdlines.txt to execute my batchfile. I do not understand this problem, as I have used the same method for years now. All my files (scripts) are placed on a floppy alongside WinNT.sif. At some point my floppy just killed itself, and I had no backup. Now I am trying to recreate all my scripts, but unfortunately now I just can't seem to get it right. I would be very greatful for any help or suggestion to this problem. Thanks. 14. Thanks a lot. Finally it works without hassle..
  15. I made a bootable CD, created a unattended (WinNT.sif) file without problems. All working perfectly. Then my Floppy disk gets an error, and now everything (my WinNT.sif file and registry settings, cmd files etc.) is erased. When trying to create all anew, I could not get the information for the create user part. I have of course searched the forum, I have read everything on unattended.msfn.org etc. Nothing is working. I recall a section I believe at the address: www.msfn.org/unattended/ once, and it was here, that I found the information maybe a year or 2 ago. It was about creating a user (adding a user) and logging the user on using a .reg file. Also at the end of the unattended installation it was supposed to erase the password, as there would be a security risk to this issue, as it was viewable as pure text in the reg file. Thus using a file called "deletepassword.reg" in the [GuiRunOnce] section of the WinNT.sif file. I believe this section has been deleted, due to the update on unattended regarding on WinXP instead of Win2k. Except that I believe that at the time I found the information, it was actually made also on XP. Anyway, since I could not find all this "old" information and regenerate my necessary files, I have tried using the net user commands. But it certainly does not work. I was hoping, that with this topic, I would be able to get in touch with someone who can help me. I would very much appreciate it, as I am pulling my hair at the moment. I have everything working perfectly, except for the autologon part and creating user part. I guess I need some batch commands or something? Anyway, I hope someone will be able to help me. Thanks.
  16. I hope there might be someone who can help me with my odd problem. I am trying to create an Unattended Windows 2000 SP4 slipstreamed CD with drivers, applications etc. I have done this a million times, and without errors. I can make the CD. But since I bought the GA-K8NXP-9 nothing seems to be working. Everytime I try to install using the CD, it always freezes during the very last part of "Detecting Devises". The progress bar moves to the far right, and then nothing else happens. I have tried nearly everything. Changing the hardware, even the CPU, RAM, disabling raid, sata etc. in the BIOS, and I have even tried to integrate everything using nLite. Same problem. Freezing at the very last part of the Detecting Devices part. The drivers I use are the ones that came with the board (included driver CD), but I have also tried using NVIDIA's nForce4 standalone drivers. I am lost now, and I hope someone would be kind enough to offer some advice or words on experiences regarding this problem. Thanks. If I install the W2k CD withouth any unattended files (using floppy), then everything is installed, but of course without drivers and applications. As soon as I use the Oem switch set to YES, it cannot install but freezes. I am 99.9 % sure, that it is not a hardware failure, as I have tested the CD, CPU, harddrive, RAM etc. etc. on another board from MSI (friend's board). Even contacting GIGABYTE did not give any solutions. They just refer to the same drivers saying that it should work. But it is not. I hope you would please offer your kind advice. Thanks.
