according to device manager graphics card is in working order if i remember right it was something simple but for the life of me i just cant remember what it is

having not done any work with win me for some time have recently just done a fresh install on a formatted hard drive ,all i am getting is 16 colours and 640 x 480 pixels i remember having this problem in the past but at that time wa able to resolve it but i just cant remember now how i done it any help in restoring the colours ans size would be appreciated

been trying all day to format and reinstall windows on2 a hard drive getting various error messages it appears some win me files and winxp files are on h/d but some files are missing have tried making a new boot up disk but getting either i/o error or its not recognising my harddrive and giving me other errors latest error is win could not start misisng file <win root> \system32\hal.dll please re install any advice how to get round this and boot up and format harddrive i have access to another pc beside dud one if thats of any use

after trying to replace some missing files found it better to reformat hard drive and do a clean install however now getting the message disk I/O error replace the disk and then press any key this boot up disk worked earlier but not now how can i make a new boot up disk or where can i download one so i can boot up hard drive then reformat it thanx in advance

have tried using d: as my cd rom drive get the error nessage invalid directory tried changingthe letter and got bad command also copied a shlwapi,dll file onto a floppy as suggested a : recognises thisfile but when try to copy as per instructions above get message nofiles copied path not found

no tried f8 and satrting in safe mode still got the same gets so far tehn same message appears but above is usefull will try copying file before trying to reinstall , only concern is have a lot of saved personal work on hard drive and will be a complete nightmare if i loose all this saved work

on restarting windows i got an error saying error in explorer exe. you must re install windows then i get a message saying missing file error c:\windows\system\shlwapi.dll how can i recover windows without loosing all data saved on hard drive operating on windows millenium edition
