    Problem with silent install of 7zip - Config Failed

    Hi all,

    I've integrated 7zip into my unattended cd thru nlite and the nlite addon maker.

    During the register components phase, a 7zip dialog box is displayed stating "Config Failed" and requesting you hit OK to proceed with setup.

    After proceeding, setup completes successfully with no further errors and reboots into the desktop.

    Once at the desktop I check the startmenu and 7zip is installed and works fine.

    How can I overcome this error? If not for this error, my setup would complete with no user interaction other than the disk partitioning and formating portions of textmode setup.

    I have performed a search and couldn't find anything helpful.

    Also I have tried using the 7zip nlite addon available in one of the stickies and get the same error.

    Any advice or assistance offered is appreciated.

    Is it possible to install XP on RAID0 with clusters greater than 4k?

    A mate mentioned to me that windows setup will fail to install windows if you install it onto a preformated raid partition with clusters greater than 4k.

    I want to setup a raid0 array with 32k clusters, so with what my mate said this won't work.

    He went on to say i need to copy vfat.sys, ntfs.sys and parted.sys from an original (pre-sp1/sp2) install disk and replace them on my sp2 disk.

    Anyway does anyone know anything about what my mate is going on about? Apparently there is some guide on the net explaining this problem and a fix (as above) but I can't seem to find it.

    Would be curious to know if this holds any water, guess I'll find out eventually tho when I get around to installing windows :)

    How to boot BartPE from boot.ini

    Hey Guys,

    I've managed to get either Windows XP Setup or BartPE to boot from USB key, but I can't figure out how to get them both to work via the boot.ini.

    At the moment, its either one or the other on the usb flash drive, but would love to be able to specify BartPE via the boot.ini. If I don't use a boot.ini file BartPE boots. Otherwise if using a boot.ini Setup boots, as I don't know what file to specify in the boot.ini file for BartPE.

    I've tried searching the forums but my search skills suck and can't find anything helpful in the million and one threads.

    Just need to know what to specify in boot.ini to boot BartPE

    I thought it was bootsect.bin that gets booted but thats not it.

    So what file is executed when you boot BartPE from CD? Just need to know what file to specify in boot.ini to execute.

    Winxp Unattended Install - Advice Needed

    Will that let me format c:\ in the text setup and choose the filesystem?

    Also can I tell it to format c:\ and not nuke any other paritions and set the c:\ partition to NTFS?

    From what I've read I can get it to autoformat it to NTFS but in doing so it'll kill the rest of my partitions and setup one big NTFS partition.

    I'd like to either manally or automatically have setup format c:\ to ntfs and leave the other partitions in tact..

    The reason I need to be able to format C:\ and not re-partition. Is whenever I need to reinstall windows xp from winxp at the moment ("quick clean install"). I find since there is an existing C:\Documents & Settings\ setup will setup its folders in there as .Windows or .NT Authority ie "All Users.Windows" and "Local Service.NT Authority". So the only solution I've come up with to ensure setup installs windows with default settings is to get it to somehow (auto)format C:\.

    Winxp Unattended Install - Advice Needed

    G'day

    How can I setup an unattended install, so that only the gui portion is unattended and the text mode portion isn't? Unfortunately setupmgr only has an option for the reverse ie GUI is attended and the text mode portion is automated! DOH!

    Basically, I'd like the text mode to be attended, so that it will allow me the choice to setup partitions or if I don't want to mess with my existing partitions just format C:\ for a clean install.

    Is this possible or do I need some sort of modified winnt.exe/winnt32.exe/setup.exe file?

    Also how can I create a boot image like the recovery console that I can add to my boot menu? This will make it easy as for reinstalling windows xp pro whenever its required. As all I'd need to do is reboot, and select the setup from the boot menu and after specifying if I need to partion/format windows will go ahead and install itself.

    I can ensure my file copy times are reduced as its only copying files that are required.

    Well hopefully someone can help.
