  1. Yeah, Moonchild says it's a "privacy footgun" but I am not sure how this is the case. I've gotten him to explain it to me before but I still didn't understand his reasoning. Is this a pref that people think should be enabled in upstream Basilisk? If so I can do that. I've been having to enable it to get Basilisk to work for my work sites even before I took over the project.
  2. Nice, glad to hear that it worked. Does it work with Tab Mix Plus?
  3. Yes, I prefer the tab label fading feature rather than elipsis as well. The WebComponents improvements are not ready, which is why they are not merged into Basilisk yet. There are bugs that are still being fixed. I generally do new releases around the same time as Pale Moon releases. My original implementation was a direct backport from Firefox 53 so it is possible that the addon behaves differently between Firefox 52 and 53. I did not check the extension since I don't use it. I plan to reimplement this feature using the same method that the Pale Moon team used (this should preserve backwards compatibility with addons). It will be togglable with a pref just like the Pale Moon feature.
  4. There have been a few features that I have ported from Pale Moon to Basilisk. Sometimes changes can be directly ported and sometimes they cannot. It depends on how complicated of a change it is. Usually smaller changes are portable, where large changes are not directly portable and need to be rewritten. It also depends on what part of the browser is being changed. Some parts of the browser work the same or similar to Pale Moon, whereas other features such as tabs work differently.
  5. @roytam1 I investigated the cause of the issues reported here and on the Pale Moon forum. The issue happened in this commit https://repo.palemoon.org/Basilisk-Dev/Basilisk/commit/dcb4e31c2c47f8daf7978e801aa632853d8ef922 I am going to release updated Basilisk builds with this commit reverted. You should revert that commit and release a new build of Serpent as well.
  6. This is correct. From my perspective as well as Moonchild's perspective Moebius is completely dead. Moebius was the original attempt at building the UXP platform, but it was not possible to port Pale Moon easily to Moebius so the project was stopped. Firefox 55 also had many more Rust based components which was not desirable. At that point they decided to switch to Firefox 52 as the new foundation for UXP because there were less Rust-based components and it was actually possible to port Pale Moon to the Firefox 52 engine.
  7. I agree, the existence of both Basilisk and Serpent is beneficial for all of us. I am aware of the hostility that occurred here in the past with Matt A Tobin (I have read the roytam1 browser threads here on MSFN for years) and I am aware of the events that occurred with the MyPal browser. I have no hostility towards anyone who uses Windows XP, I think we can work together to make great web browsers. I'll look into the PDF issue, there is definitely a bug somewhere in Basilisk that occurred between January and August.
  8. I am the owner of the Basilisk project. While I have no issue with Serpent being developed, at this time I do not plan to restore Windows XP support into the official Basilisk release. In the last release I reinstated 32-bit Windows 7 builds. Those of you on a newer 32 bit Windows OS should be able to use those builds. The 2022.08.06 32 bit installer has a bug where the installer does not actually run on 32 bit OSes. That will be fixed in the next release sometime in September. I do intend to remove the Serpent branding from the upstream Basilisk repo. I will let roytam1 have that and create a new unofficial branding for people who use self compiled Basilisk builds so there is no confusion. If there are any bugs that affect both the official Basilisk and Serpent feel free to open an issue and I'll see if I can address it. Please make sure bugs affect Basilisk first before reporting them, I can't provide any support for Serpent.
