  1. CNET has a base station that has an RJ45 socket built in which allows you to connect it to a switch. It comes with software which allows you to asign an IP address to the base station. All the wireless devices connect to the base station and are all visible on the network to the wired clients. No need to bridge.
  2. So are you saying the LAN nic should point to itself in the DNS entry? I tried using updated drivers which didn't change anything, so i too am convinced its DNS problems...
  3. The server has 2 NIC's - 1 conected to the ISP with the DNS settings pointing to the ISP's DNS servers. The other NIC is joined to the network but has the same DNS settings as the ISP NIC. Is this where the problem is starting? Should i change the DNS settings on the LAN NIC?
  4. you could also just add the username and password of each computer to all 3 pc's. then when they connect the credentials are already there....
  5. The NIC is an Intel Pro100 VE, so i dont think it should the NIC. I looked at the name of the server which is "server1a.local.*.com" *=name of company. I was wondering if that was causing the DNS lookup to search the net first when its trying to logon to the domain?? It looks like i'm going to have to wait a week until it sorts itself out....
  6. I wondered if it had anything to do with DNS settings. I disabled the DNS registration, but that didn't change anything. Going to try a few other changes in the DNS settings window...
  7. I've done loads of spyware removal and the 2 best apps i've found are: Microsoft Antispyware Beta Xoftspyware 4.x What i've found is that Xoft will find some stuff that MSA thinks is safe and visaversa, but using them together works well. The MSA is a live scanner, so you just leave it to do it's own thing and just run a scan about once a week. With Xoft you have to do everything manually and it has to be registered to remove anything, but in my line of work it's worth paying for it. I also use Hijack this as a backup if i still suspect an infection. The best antivirus packages are: Avast! Pro Anti Virus Kit - made by some German company called GData
  8. I've recently added a win2k(new installation) with SP4 onto a domain. After restarting and completing the username and password it takes the pc ages (like 20mins) to login. If you unplug the network cable it will login to windows straight away. I've had this problem on an XP pc once before but after about a week it returned to normal. Anyone got any bright ideas??
  9. Looks like i opened a small can of worms here... If you look at the title of the thread, i was gearing this board towards gamers, so office users would not be interested in this board. The reason why i said to remove the devices not required was to create space on the board and then there would be no excuse not to put anything extra on ie Raid etc.. I've tested the difference between onboard audio and other sound cards during game play and the performance is noticable. I'm not concerned with audio quality 'cos most of the time the onboards dont sound any different, its purely for performance. If you really need a floppy drive you can always use a USB Floppy drive. I've flashed many a bios with these on different manufacturers boards.
  10. I've noticed that all the motherboard manufacturers are all putting onboard video and onboard audio onto all their boards nowadays. Most gamers i know will never use an onboard video card and most of them have put in an audio card to improve performance and reduce the load from their cpu. Imagine what they could put on the board if they did away with the devices that never gets used by gamers. Here's what i think they should remove: Parallel Port Onboard Video Onboard Audio Floppy Drive Controller - when last did you use this? What they should put on: 64bit SATA Raid system with support for at least 4 drives Firewire Port - you always have to buy an extra card for this, unless you have an audigy 2 Anyone else got any ideas?
  11. @ LiquidSage The reason i'm using a non sp version of 2k was to make sure that when i try and create the boot folders of any o/s = to or higher than win2k, i dont get the warning "your version is newer than the one you're trying to install blah blah". It's also to avoid interfereing with my current setup. It's easier to re-install a virtual pc. My o/s i'm running now is the same one i'm having problems with creating the boot folder. I do ensure that its a full install and that the d/load etc is not checked. I do like your idea about mounting the virtual drive, going to give that a try today. Thanks for the ideas.
  12. I've checked the setupp.ini file and the key is a volume licence. I've made an unattended version of the same cd without any problems, so i know the key works, it's just when i need to create the boot folders via win2k.
  13. I should have mentioned that it was a Corp Ed of XP, dont suppose that makes any difference?? I tried using the original CD instead of my unattended version and got the same result Got a normal version on the way, so will try that and see what happens.... Thanx for the reply
  14. I'm trying to create the boot folders (the Flyakite way) for the various O/S's and seem to have a problem with XP. I'm using a non service packed version of Win2K in VM. When runing the XP cd it asks me for my serial key. When entering it it says it's invalid. Now i know the first thing anyone is going to say is "Pirated ..... blah blah" but i can assure you its genuine 'cos i'm holding my hologramed CD in one hand and the Licence in the other. I've managed to get win2k3 to work the same way, so i dont think it's VM. Anyone had the same problem?
  15. Ah, much better... Yeah the admin install is the way to go, thanks guys...
  16. I've created my XP Unattended CD, and now i'm trying to get Office 2003 included. I've got it to run silently from the GuiRunOnce section all ok. My problem is that during the install it pops up a windows that says it cant find a cab file, namely CC561401.cab. If i point it to my Office folder in the $OEM$ folders the installation carries on ok. After the install when i look in the Install folder on the hdd, there sits the file. I've removed all the hidden attrib's for the cab files. My mst file is pretty basic, the only changes i made was for certain products not to be installed i.e Access, Info Point & Publisher.... I'm testing my cd via an iso file in VMWare. Anyone got any bright ideas or had the same problem? I did a search and couldn't seem to find anything similar.
