very incomplete description of the problem. What's your Vista build number ? Hardware specs ? is it Haswell ?

    Net version, most importantly ?

oh sorry. The laptop is a Dell XPS m1710 with an Intel Core Duo and NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX, Vista version is Ultimate sp2 build 6002

I'm not really sure what the .net version is, but the error log says "4.8.4320.0"

  2. I recently triple booted my windows xp laptop with vista and 10, and now whenever I boot into Vista, it loads, but after I log in, it shows a blue screen (like the default wallpaper in windows 2000) with a cursor, i can do ctrl + alt +del, but nothing else works. A popup always appears saying ".net runtime optimization service has stopped working"

Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks

Are you sure you selected the correct drive?

It may not show-up in MHDD if it is running in AHCI mode, try to change the SATA setting to IDE/Compatible in BIOS.

HDD Sentinel can do a surface scan too, but there may be false issues unless you boot from another drive. And be careful to select a non-destructive test.

I think you're focusing too much on the disk and forgetting the other things.

Well I think the disk is the problem, on HDD Sentinel, the disk activity is very high

Out of curiosity, what do you find not "any good" in ClamWin? It's freeware (not sure if open-source), updated regularly (daily, actually), i have been using it for years, and have never had a problem with it. The package is relatively small (as these things go), and it claims protection from 7,658,820 viruses (today's update).

I believe v0.99.1 is the last that works on native Win9x, but if i'm mistaken, someone please let me know.

Not that an anti-virus application is all that crucial to 9x anymore, but i just like to be safe anyway.

I've tried to use it, but it takes forever to scan and update the databases, and on top of that, it chews up my CPU. I think I'm not using it right

  5. So I got this old Pionex computer back in December. I tried to dual boot it with NT 4.0 for some reason, deleted the whole OS by accident, reinstalled it, and now, it's stuck with 16 colors and a 640x480 resolution! I've tried everything, from drivers to SciTech Display Doctor to reinstalling it yet again, but nothing seems to work

It only goes into true color when I open up a DOS application
