Given that any ideas of real privacy with an active internet connection are based more upon anyone's personal beliefs than any actual reality - I simply don't waste much life energies thinking about it. Debian itself is more fiddly than Ubuntu - and Ubuntu Mate is nice & easy to make into a classic desktop style clone, hence that preference. As to SP3, how it could be possible for users of it NOT to take note of the profound lack of control it creates as regards drivers and such system level items is beyond me. SP2 still allows the user to mostly be in charge of their own system whereas SP3 does away with too much choice for my liking.

I joined here years back, and have just re-made my membership here after it vanished somehow ?? Yes, visits here became quite infrequent and then ceased for a while sometime back due to a change in my focus & OSes used...as it 'splains in my profile here: My interests in whatever activities prolong the uses of XP & Win2kpro have brought me here once again. There are daily use apps which I prefer that run well under those OSes - either natively or within VMs & these as well as other native Linux apps provide all that I need for my daily activities. There is only illusory 'security' as regards internut activities, and seeing all the newer stuff that has provided only illusory 'protection' from all the nefarious malwares which appear minute by minute - I see no purpose being served in wasting life energies or attention upon such false premises and/or the updating hysteria that those false premises create. Just my 2 cents here. I remain a happy XP user & require nobody's approval in that matter - but do welcome friendly and/or helpful info which contributes to this happiness. smallhagrid PS: Please, no nastygrams in reply telling me how wrong I am, etc., etc., etc. ad nauseum - been there, don't desire any re-runs, thanks.

Now that I have re-made my membership here (it vanished somehow ??), I am eagerly following this !! There is nothing good about any of the newer OSes & I do not use them at all. Should there ever come a day when something stops me utterly from using XP & my preferred apps from that era, it will be a very sad day indeed. XP SP2 runs exceedingly well as a VM under Ubuntu Mate & VMWare Player & any app that demands that horrid SP3 is just not needed by me. As I've said in many places & many times: This is MY PC - to do with as I wish & NOT for some OS to control in any manner minus my overt consents.
