  1. OK, mark as solved. Finally found a setting in the TV and that changed the way the screen is displayed. Looks normal now. Thanks.
  2. I was having several issues so I did a full reset of Windows 8.1 (that was a nightmare). When I went to update, it offered me Windows 10. I bit the bullet and did it. The exact same thing happened this time as the first time (which is why I reverted back to 8.1). On the desktop, if I place icons to either side or top, they're half off the screen. The taskbar is messed up too. I put Classic Shell back in so that I have a start menu more in tune with Windows 7. Now I can only see a sliver of the start button. The clock is half off the screen. If I choose to show icons on the taskbar, they are below the taskbar. Same goes for icons in the quick launch bar. I didn't have this problem with 8. Any menu that's taller than the screen I can't see and there's no scroll to see the upper end. If I maximize the browser, the minimize, maximize and close buttons are off the screen. I'm using the recommended screen resolution. 1920x1080. I'm using a 32" 720p TV as my monitor. It's plugged in with an HDMI cable. There are no settings to change the display in the TV. Screen shot? Yeah right. When I do a screen shot, it shows everything as it should look, not what I'm actually seeing. Here's the left side of the taskbar. Here's the right side. This is what happens to icons on the desktop. Computer specs: Processor: AMD FX-6200 (3.8GHz) Processor Core: Six-Core Memory: 10GB DDR3 (PC3-12800) Graphics: Eyefinity Radeon HD 7570 (2GB DDR3 dedicated) Video Ports: HDMI, DVI, Display Port I can't find an updated driver. AMD conciders the video card 'legacy'. Driver Provider: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. Driver Date: 6/22/2015 Driver Version: 15.200.1045.0 edit to add: Version of Windows is 64bit
  3. When support ended for XP, I'd planned on buying a new computer (not out of the box, a custom build). I was then going to put Linux on the old machine. I could then learn Linux at my own pace. Well, the video card died in the old machine and it wasn't worth it (to me) to buy a new video card for it. Besides, it was getting some age on it. Who knows, I might pick up a cheap used box and put Linux on it.
  4. It worked! I hid all the aplicable updates for 10. I also set Update to notify and NOT install. The only updates that I installed were for NET Framework. I didn't install any of the optional updates.
  5. I pretty much had to start at the bottom and work my way up. What a royal PIA. I'm not fond of UAC either. OK, now that that's done, YAY. Even though it says to update and reboot, is it ok to do? Also, thanks everyone for the help.
  6. Already tried that. It doesn't work. This is what I get.
  7. I've started that. But, I have to take ownership of each file. Then folder. That's going to take hours upon hours. Isn't there a simpler way? Other than beating my hard drive flat with a hammer?
  8. Well, now there is a BT folder. I took ownership of the folder and all sub-folders and files. Even so, there are multiple files that I can't delete. My account is administrator. I don't see the WS folder.
  9. Well, it's going to do it. All that I've done is to no avail. I just got a popup notice that it was ready to install. *&%# you Microsoft.
  10. Told y'all, didn't I? I guess so. Ah for the days of XP. I'd just move stuff and reformat.
  11. No, not one that old. I was able to get back to 8.1 because I have Reflect in. I booted from it and had it overwrite 10. My earliest restore point is from 8/31. That's when I added a registry value to disable getting 10. Obviously, it didn't work.
  12. I don't know if that's possible with 8.1, haven't researched it. As for XP, I miss it.
  13. I had to reboot, which I didn't. I hit the power button. Then turned it on again. Well, 10 did not install. However, in Windows Update it still shows that 10 is there and to reboot to install. I can't check for updates, it says I need to reboot. Biggest reason I'm not wanting it to install is that it blows everything off the screen. Taskbar ends up being just a sliver. Icons at the edge of the screen are 1/3 off the screen. When my browser (Firefox) is maximized, the Menu bar is offscreen. As are the minimize, maximize and close buttons. I'm using a 32" LED TV as my monitor. Have no problem with it while using 8.1. With 10, it's a different story.
  14. I have folder settings to show hidden folders/files. There is no BT folder. A file search of the Windows folder shows bth and other files. A lot of them in the amd 64 folders.
  15. Yeah, against my will. That's exactly what happened. Thankfully I'd imaged my drive before 10 reared it's ugly head and installed. Therefore, I was able to go back to 8.1, 10 and I had some big issues. I've followed the suggestions here and elsewhere to uninstall the updates. Now it's waiting for me to reboot. The 2 options it gives are "update and restart" or "update and shutdown". In the Windows Update window it still shows "Your upgrade to Windows 10 is ready" and wants me to reboot so it can install 10. I also set Update to show which ones are available but not to download/install. I found the GWX folder and renamed it. I searched for GWX on C, nowhere to be found. It doesn't show in Task Manager either. Do I dare reboot? And if I do, will it stuff me 10 again? TIA
