  1. Thats OK. I hate writing manuals too, prefer real work. Alternatively, would you have a config file that I can load/reverse engineer with some of the common variables/commands being used? I did a search on %DESKTOP%, but kept getting "403 not auth" errors when trying to open a thread. Looking forward to the 5.4 release...
  2. I'm in the process of migrating from my non-intuitive home grown system for post install to WPI and like what I see so far. I've had a quick look at the WPI site, and this forum, but I can't seem to find what I'm after. Though I'm sure its been asked before; Is there a list of variables (%PROGRAMFILES%, etc) and commands (FILECOPY, etc) and thier usage for the Command Lines of the wizard?
  3. Hi Lib, Fairly easy to do, as I've just done the same in the last week. 1. Download the BASE driver pack, and any other driver pack required. 2. Start the driver pack configuration, I chose method one. Once this finishes running you'll end up with a directory of up to 520Mb of drivers. 3. Download the package in the "Sticky post: Drivers from CD (simple method)" 4. Follow the instructions for setting this up. 5. Copy the drivers directory created in step 2 as required. This keeps all the drivers on DVD and runs at the T-39 mark of the install. Works for Win2003 as well. But does take a bit of time to scan all drivers. A DVD install is recomended for this, as the drivers can come to 520Mb + say 600Mb for the OS + any unattended applications you may have. Hope this helps Dave
  4. @All Thanks for the input. Will have to sit down at the weekend and look at each. But am sort of leaning toward Delphi. Found the 2005 Personal version on an old mag cover disk at home. It has the benifits of having a solid IDE, and I can also do C# in the same environment. But that means ditching Visual Studio 2005. I remember the days teaching myself C on an Amiga 1000, and before that converting BASIC from the old Commodore PET to a 23 column display VIC20. Showing my age now. Oh, well. Always more to learn.
  5. @Dje Thanks for that. Worked well. I did have the still have an additional $OEM$ directory at the same level as I386 on the multiboot DVD to store the files in (drivers.cmd, etc) and modify the entries in [GuiUnattended]. [GuiUnattended] DetachedProgram=".\system32\cmd.exe" Arguments="/Q /C FOR /F %I IN (%SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\$WINNT$.INF) DO (FOR %J IN (%I..\..\$OEM$) DO (IF EXIST %J (start /min /D%J Drivers.cmd)))" Again, thanks for the assist.
  6. Hi, Currently trying to learn Visual C#, but there are times I need to run a stand-alone windows app that does not require .net or a bunch of runtime libraries. I'm currently using SetupFactory for this (based on Lua), but its form creation is very simple and only alows one type of control per page (after all, its really an installer package, but its worked so far). Now I'm looking to do more... Any suggestions welcome. If it has a visual IDE for creating form it would be a bonus (spoilt by VS 2005!). Thanks David
  7. @MC Tried that (with Balder Multiboot) and it works fine. Just that I'm using the latest BtS driver packs and they come to about 520Mb (compressed) for the lot. When it comes to an AiO DVD (XPpro, XPhome, XPnlite, etc) @ 500+Mb each, takes a bit of time to copy and a lot of time for the app to sort thru all files only to keep one of each. I've been doing it that way for some time, except copying PNP drivers to disk. Just wondering if there is a way to keep one master copy in the root of the DVD. Not an issue if not possible, but never hurts to ask, worst that can happen is I'm no better off than I am now cheers Dave
  8. Only just found this method of doing drivers. Running a build now and working well. On a multiboot DVD, is it possible to only have one instance of the drivers directory in the root of the DVD, instead of having a driver directory in each $OEM$ folder? this <ROOT> >Drivers >Drivers\LAN >Drivers\GFX >XPHOME >XPHOME\I386 >XPPRO >XPPRO\I386 instead of this <ROOT> >XPHOME >XPHOME\$OEM$\drivers >XPHOME\$OEM$\drivers\LAN >XPHOME\$OEM$\drivers\GFX >XPHOME\I386 >XPPRO >XPPRO\$OEM$\drivers >XPPRO\$OEM$\drivers\LAN >XPPRO\$OEM$\drivers\GFX >XPPRO\I386
  9. If you need to zero fill the HDD, try DiscWiz from Seagate http://www.seagate.com/support/disc/drivers/discwiz.html its a free download. It will create either a bootable CD or floppy (eek!), its just a matter of sitting back and waiting then.
  10. Hi, Have been using the XP RAID-5 mod described on Tomshardware since Feb/Mar. Was using it on an old MSI dual P3 system with 4x80G seagate drives (already had 2x80G and was BIOS limited to 120G anyway). Only prob I had on that system was a dodgy battery and the BIOS forgetting its setting. This resulted in the RAID-5 being rebuilt to often, but otherwise OK. Was not after speed, but storage. OK so 240Gb might not be huge, but it works for me. Have since transplanted the 4 drive array to my newer P4 system without a hitch. Have 2 drives connected to an on-board IDE channel, and 2 others connected to cheap PCI IDE controller. All worked fine after importing the foriegn disks. If I can offer any other info, feel free to ask.
  11. @Anthony43 I had the same prob when trying to place a PayPal order earlier this month. I sent the developer an email and he said he was having probs with PayPal and has now removed that option. He now only takes invoice payments and charges an extra US$10 for that service. A bit steep I thought for a US$49 product (20% markup). I was using an older borrowed version (v1.82), it has probs with Win2003 SP1. But all version of XP SP2 (Pro, Home Media Centre) and 2003 Server without a SP are fine. Will also integrate BartPE. Regards David
  12. If this has been discussed before, I appologise in advance, just not sure how to word the search. Am running XP Pro on a system with 5 x HDD, Boot from HDD1 (Basic disk), have setup HDD2-5 as Dynamic for mirroring. So far so good. Dynamic disk conversion no probs, create partition spanning HDD2-5 OK, reboot and the Dynamic disks will either revert back to Basic disks or stay Dynamic but become Dynamic Foriegn disks and need repairing. Any help on this one appreciated. This is driving me nuts!
  13. I've done a search, but without success. I can install Norton Systemworks 2004 or Internet Security 2004 silently, but not one after the other. The message I get advises that a previous setup has completed but a restart is required to install the other package. Any assistance appreciated.
