  1. Yeah but it was wrong then and with all the members telling people to SEARCH for their help, and then getting WRONG information on the 4th link http://www.google.com/custom?domains=www.m...ID%3A1%3B&hl=en or 2nd link http://www.google.com/custom?domains=www.m...ID%3A1%3B&hl=en THAT is why I suggested it be removed. I search for my info before looking, but other members might be less knowledgeable, and could end up with BAD information. So I suggested removing the article. If the article was just out of date it would be one thing. But blatantly wrong is another. Thats all. Not trying to insult anyone, just trying to protect some newbs. It has been hard enough reading through everything here. If you ask 10 people how to do something you will end up with 15 opinions LOL At least would could trim the ones that are wrong/ dont work
  2. http://www.msfn.org/comments.php?shownews=7498 During a forum search for help unattended install of the catalyst drivers I cam across this Posted 9 months ago 4.3 drivers? http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/winxp/r...x=20&submit.y=2 2 Weeks ago ATI came out with new drivers v4.12 Also the other information on that news article, is wrong. It lists everything as version 4.3 On the newest driver 4.12 is th catalyst driver 8.082 is the display driver MMC is 9.03 Hydravision Driver is 3.25.0006 Remote Wonder is 2.5.1 And WDM is 4.07 Just wanted to point this out some someone else does not try downloading it thinking its newer because of the incorrect version number. Fortunately I double checked. Might want to remove that article.
  3. I started trying this, but most of it does not work Nothing goes to the temp file. Instead you can go to the Windows\Installer folder and pull the MSI's However I am stuck running hte batch file method. Since I have an AMD processor I have to install the AGP driver and the SmartGART drivers before the ati program. I would say it could work even with an AMD, but since I ran into massive errors on my first install, I am going to have to do it differently. Thanks for the great info EDIT: I Just looked at your sig, we have **** near identical systems I am running a 2400, on a A7N8x rev 2 board with 320GB of maxtor drives and 1and a quarted GB of RAM Gonna have to try and wrap my brain around this.
  4. I finally burned to DVD and formattedand installed my unattended installation Removed the things Ithought was the problem first, but was tired of messing with it (seems it could be a never ending project, everyday I learn more and wantto implement it) Since my disk was a t 1.9 GB I figured it was time. I removed the cleanup utility, stripped down the registry tweaks (which few seem to work anyway) to about 20 entries. Also removed all 3 installrite EXEs I created because they seemed to create more problems, then benefits. (BTW Which ones did not work? The security center tweaks, the tour stop tweak etc) Other ones like the cd-close tweak and the autoamtic User generation tweak DID work Installed fine (one problem with the switches for something, I will post later) Start to run, and get memory errors, and such Win32 error, and implement shut down (RPC service failed) Also could not get an IP for my wireless adapter, the LAN driver did not install. Tried forcingthe IP for the wireless card with no luck Checked services and things I never selected were disabled that should not have been etc. I am goingto rebuild my disk totally manually. No scripts or anything from the forum. Modify my own DLLs and see how that goes. After I finish I will post my findings. Just one request/ Offer Do you guys need help organizing the forum and updatingthe unattended guide? It seems to learn thing I had to bounce around quite a bit. Try things that did not work, mixed in the threads with things that do. A Little more organization would be helpful. (Please do not take this as an insult. It comes from a lot of people contributing their information. I just think that perhaps stick threads, like Application switches, could be replaced with an alphabetical list of known switches). Okay network SP2 just finished downloading. (I am rebuilding from the ground up) Gotta go
  5. Much like XP eh? Yes you have to have an NTFS installation. this is because the alpha release still contains the WinFS and it is an add-on to NTFS. I had no problems installing drivers for my radeon 9600SE card. But I think you will find that older hardware is not as supported as in previous versions of Windows. Probably because this is not public release and the recommended specs on it are high enough that older machines just wont be capable of installing it. I have a 2GHz processor 1.3 GB of RAM and it still took an hour to install it!
  6. You can make most programs run my installing in compatability mode, then after install, r-click on the file and select run in compatability mode This is secondary after tyrying to install properly though
  7. Could cause some problems with various hyper accurate GPS units though. Wonder if it will effect he magnetic fields atall? They were already in the process of rotating. It is a really terrible event that happened. Best wishes for all the survivors.
  8. Well the good news is, put it at the end of your runonce file and then you dont need to include the line to restart
  9. Try using resource hacker to change the bitmap images, then makecab and overwrite it. If not, try modifyPE to make it "compliant"
  10. I actually changed whole themes Make your own themes or download some from wincustomize Place them in the \$OEM$\$$\Resources\Themes Then add [Shell] DefaultStartPanelOff = No DefaultThemesOff = No CustomDefaultThemeFile = "%WinDir%\Resources\Themes\TwoTone.theme" To your winnt.sif file Change the name of the them to whatever your theme is called.
  11. It should be able to especially if it was a quick format. Then the data is still there, it just does not appear that way. also even a full format does not remove the data. Only zeroizing will do that. Even then some physical recovery devices can extract it (but you are talking about forensics units then) You might lose some of your data, due to it being overwritten, but most of it should be accessible. Good luck
  12. Users has to go into the documents and settings folder (IE X:\$OEM$\$Docs) Then you also have to have the proper user registry key and command line program to point to it I think.
  13. http://unattended.msfn.org/xp/applications/mediaplayer10.htm Here is the easy way This is a good thread though as it helps to learn the overall process. Most of the unattended proces I did NOT use the cheat method. This when when something else comes up I can get it done even if no one else knows how
  14. That fixed it thanks!
  15. Great... Now its also hanging a 37minutes and not moving... Made a few minor changes (like removinghte title on the winnt.sif) m going to rebuild the image now too Try installing AGAIN...
  16. I have to put repartition no because I am using 3 partitions across my primary drive and installing D&S and PF to different HDDs then Windows.
  17. Whoops, Sorry about the message title. Dont know how else to phrase it. I am almost done with my making my XP 2 Xtreme edition disk and ran into one problem There we go. Makes no sense to me If I click next the rest continues unattended
  18. Oh for unattended install Save all the WAV files to %systemroot%\Media or C:\windows\Media This way they will be there on reinstall
  19. Download the WAVs physically one by one. Go to sounds in control panel and manipulate your settings one by one Make sure that things that happen alot have short wave files. I made the mistake of adding a 10 second wav of Morse code when ever a new instant message arrived. Did not think it would be a big deal until I was in my first multi-chat session LOL Hmm perhaps this would be best started in its own thread? Can a mod split this and make it its own? Then save as "Some name" Then do a reg search for the name you entered... Copy the whole key, and install it in your registry files for unattended install Easy-peasey
  20. okay almost finished I have a question this is my latest build. Just finsished adding a new default sound scheme (via reg change) Gonna add the appz (or drivers, dont know yet) for my MS wireless optical desktop suite elite then try a burn. However my latest build is not perfectly unattended. All of a sudden I am getting a prompt for the XP iinstall at the very beginning (not the low level setup for partitioning, but the GUI setup) Here is a copy of my winnt.siffile. I double checked and dont see anything wrong. I haven't touched this in a couple of days, been too sick. So I don't remember what changes I made this last revision. Its not a big deal as, until I change the install rite packagers to automatically overwirite all files, I will be stuck having an attended CD. It just bothers me that it pops up now. any help? Thanks
  21. Same here. I havent tried a real install yet, but been using VMWare for testing for aboit a week and a half now Load up goes very quick. Even from a DVD Everytime I think I got what I want I end up adding more changes Just added a new default sound schemme and testing it. Just a couple more things and I will burn it for real
  22. I find it hard to believe that microsoft would support this, since the specifically put measures in place to NOT allow this to happen. If the hdd has a i386 folder on it you can try making your own XPCD... by putting it back in the original machine. Other then that, you would need to run a repair console. Another option is to get Windows XPE disk (barts or whatever). Its windows that runs from CD. Edit the files to remove the AGP drivers.
  23. I find it hard to believe that a network administrator would be willing to jeopardize his employer by running p2p software. As a former NetAdmin there was nothing I hated more then having to clean up 20 PC's because no rules were defined before I started working there. Assuming your are smart enough to avoid infecting your system, which is not difficult. You still leave yourself open for attack by people that prey on p2pers. Having a static IP is just more fun for them. Then you have to consider the legal ramifications. Do NOT install p2p software on your companies computer. If you are interested in setting up a corporate file sharing network. As a network administrator you could institute a company wide product like QNext. Which is a trillian style messenger program with file sharing capabilities. You can create multiple shares with different settings. (For instance IT files only allowed to other IT members, memorandums available company wide, but still within the group of "friends" that you create etc) You could also use the refernce material here to create a network share of the file, perhaps with preconfigured contact list. But I dont suggest p2p software on a corporate network (no matter how tempting that E-# or whatever) line is
  24. What type of installer uses XML as in setup.ml as a trigger? Not the installer itself, but a hook for the installer. I noticed that by changing some settings in the XML I can affect the install slightly. But not enough to do a full install. Does anyone know what type of installer, and also app that I would need to monitor the install for it? No one else seems to have any luck with installing NOD32 fully configured, was just wondering if there was a way to do this. I will post the answer if someone can point me in the right direction.
