  1. I am using a Motorola cable modem (one USB port and one Ethernet port) to access the net. I would like to connect that to a router; to share the network.

Right now I do not have a router (i.e. one Ethernet WAN port , and 4 Ethernet LAN ports) to do a sharing, because with this type of router the connection straight forward

But I have got two ADSL Wireless modem routers (NETGEAR DG834G V1and LinkSys WAG54G V2.0 (RJ 11 port and 4 Ethernet LAN ports)

Can I use one of those ADSL Wireless modem routers ? and connect my motorola modem cable to one of its LAN Ethernet port ? does it have any drawback ?

  2. Friend of mine has got two computers (Laptop and Desktop) connected to each other via cross over cable (networked), both computers have got OS win2003 SP2. Normally he accesses both computer via administrator accounts

When he does not use them , he locks them by pressing (Ctrl+Alt+Del), some times he found his son accessed his laptop, he told me that he did not tell his son about the password for the username administrator.

There is no other accounts were created beside administrator account under “Local Users and Groups”.

I have checked by myself the “Add or Remove Programs”, I could not find suspicious program.

Is there away to access a locked PC without knowing the password ?

Some time his dad let his son use the computer when the computer is unlocked. Can the son find out the password for the administrator in some how ?

  3. I have got an external segate hard drive that connected to my laptop through USB cable, I doubt that there is a problem, then I decided to test it by using : Segate seatool utility (windows version not dos version) that I have downloaded from segate site.

I can see the external hard drive :

    http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/7627/segateutilitysd3.jpg

But the test option is unavailable!!!!

Is there any other utility that can test such a USB connected HD ?

I knew that we can connect faulty hard disk directly to the mother and then run the test from CD or floppy, but this is not feasible in my case

  4. I have got win2000 Professional (all updated patches), with two users (both of them have admin privileges) (administrator, forum), with their passwords

How can I force the PC when it boots to default the username to "administrator" instead of "forum" in the text box , because right now when it boots it defaults to "forum" as a username.

For testing purpose what I did, I loggined as "administrator" username, then I deleted the username : "forum", and I booted the PC (after deletion), it still defaults the username as : "forum".

  5. I am pretty sure that we are using 192.168.2.23 as virtual ip address for our two cluster exchange win2003 servers (EX1, EX2). We have used 192.168.2.23 within PIX, and mail firewall,,,etc

ip address for EX1 192.168.2.13, ip address for EX2 192.168.2.14

But when I checked these two snapshot , I got confused, because I have seen two ip addresses:

    http://img390.imageshack.us/img390/7166/ex...snapshotfc4.jpg

Why there are two ip addresses 192.168.2.22 and 192.168.2.23 ?

  6. I'm not really sure what you're asking.

    Sorry for the late reply.

I have used my outlook to retrieve one ( because I have got two accounts) of my yahoo's account (unintentionally I mentioned hotmail) mails, then i formatted my laptop, but before formatting, I saved the file below on my external hard disk.

    http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/8017/ou...pforyaoobe2.jpg

    outlookbackupforyaoobe2.th.jpg

Now after I installed fresh copy of windows , and I installed outlook again, I used the outlook to retrieve my work mails from the server, my second yahoo accounts from the yahoo server, what should I do to restore my first yahoo account from the external hard disk , without mixing with the yahoo account that retrieved from yahoo server ?

  7. Yes. But just so you dont lock yourself out have another backup admin account.

I have created a backup Administrator called (backupadmin), and i added him to the groups below:

    1- Administrators

    2- Domain Admins

    3- Domain Users

Is this all what i have to do (only three groups) ?or I have to add more ?

Because all the groups that I have got for the username Administrator, is below

  8. We have got an application called help desk installed on PC win2003 server , within that application there is a service (use wizard) to retrieve all database information (username, first name, last name) from Active Directory Domain (win2003).

For the database to be retrieved from the AD, it should has privilege domain admin. And that database should be synchronized between help desk and AD.

domain admin can not be given to help desk people, how can we find alternate solution for this issue ?

  9. I am planning to use Nessus (installed on Desktop) at work (production devices)

1-Is there any difference between Nusse Linux platform and Windows Platform ?

2-Is it a good idea to use more than one monitoring tools on different PCs, like Nusses on one PC and SolarWinds on other PC or ?

3-Does using Nusses (Linux or windows) affect any network devices (Cisco devices, hp servers, etc )

4-Is it necessary the PC which has got Nessus installed on it, to join AD domain ?

  10. We have got two DNS servers at work (we have Active Directory) , one within our LAN and other within DMZ area

The one within our LAN 192.168.1.10

The one within DMZ area 192.168.101.99

Windows 2003 launches the DNS Microsoft Management Console, from which we can perform your DNS administration.

DNS MMC snap-in à Expand the DNS server à Right-click the “ Forward Lookup Zone “ folder for each DNS server (LAN and DMZ) we have got two zones, they are called : rami.au and rami.global (fake one)

We have got many other servers within LAN and DMZ.

One of these many servers is : a media server within DMZ area (192.168.101.202) :

My Computer à Right Click à Properties à Computer Name

Full computer name Name : ramimedia.rami.global

    Domain: rami.global

1- When I checked the “ rami.au ” (we have two zones rami.au and rami.globa, unlike the DMZ one) folder under “ Forward Lookup Zones ” for DNS LAN (not DMZ area ) I found this entry :

Host (uses parent domain if left blank): media

Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) : media.rami.au ,,,,not media.rami.global ?

    IP address : 192.168.101.202

2- When I checked the “ rami.au ” (we have one zone, only rami.au. unlike the LAN one ) folder under “ Forward Lookup Zones ” for DNS DMZ area (Not LAN area) I found this entry :

Host (uses parent domain if left blank): media

Fully qualified domain name (FQDN) : media.rami.au ,,,,not media.rami.global ?

IP address : 215.43.57.202,,,,,,,,,,,,,fake public ip address as well

    Shouldn’t “ option 1 ” have been within rami.global zone not rami.au zone ?

Note: All servers have got win2003 OSs

  11. At work I have got Dell Desktop with XP Professional (unplugged Ethernet cable)

    Right clickproperties “ Computer Name “ tab.

    Full computer name : stgnlog,,,,,,,,

    Domain : stgn.global

I tried to log in as standalone machine ( I was not able to login) :

    Username : log

    Password: log1199

Log on to : STGNLOG (this computer),,,,,,,,,first option,,,,logically this should work

The system could not log you on. Make sure your username and domain are correct then type your password again. Letters in password must be typed using the correct case

When I tried second option (I was able to login) :

    Username : log

    Password: log1199

Log on to : STGN,,,,,,,,this the name for our domain, keep in mind that Ethernet cable is unplugged

  12. You need to right-click on the Administrator account object itself to see the option.
this is what I did ,,,,I hope I understood you correctly.
also note that if you are not logged on as the domain admin,

The screen that I posted for domain admin account logged in

BTW, I was logging to the domain controller PC remotely (Remote Desktop) not locally

  13. At work Recently I formatted my laptop , I have got two accounts , domain (AD win2003) account and standalone account.

Domain account is useranem : zillah , password : catcat ,,,,fake one

Standalone account (administrator privildge): username : boss, password : forum,,,,fake one

I tired these within our LAN , I can login into both accounts (zillah and boss).

We are using exchange server 2003 for the email account and outlook 2003 as client .

I can access my work email account when I login as : zillah (domain), but I can not access my email account when I login as : boss (stand alone) ?

Before formatting I was able to access my work email account when I logged in into both accounts,,,OS on my laptop is win2003!!!!

  14. This is usually caused by 3rd party disk management or monitoring software - if you've got anything like this installed, uninstall and reboot, and possibly run sfc /scannow, and the problem should go away. This is almost always caused by 3rd party disk management software .dll's loading in the mmc, which will crash the disk management mmc more often than not.

I see. But I did the fresh installation.
