  1. Hey Allysandra Did you type your post at work or elsewhere? You seemed to have no problem with 'g's in it. Am I the only one who wondered about this? If you have a computer savvy friend who builds PCs who you know is careful you could ask him to take a look at the keyboard. You can repair connections on keyboards with conductive paint. I suspect it is not electronic & only a temporary mechanical fault. Though I would concurr with the suggestion that you should buy a small ps2 or USB keyboard if your laptop does not have the 'legacy' or std. ps2 connectors (the small 5 pin circular connectors used to connect most mice & keyboards to desktop - any non laptop - PCs. The key arrangements on a full size keyboard tend to be easier to type with than those on laptops. I have yet to see a laptop keyboard that is not bettered by a good keyboard unit. Do you type alot? Do you use the laptop 'on the road' alot in places where it would make it difficult to plug in & set up the keyboard infront of the laptop? Great little tip there Flashcore!
  2. If 'gold' means without service packs - then this is a 'gold' version; unregistered, unsused, unwrapped, retail boxed full version, completely legitimate from Microsoft staff, to me, for winning a compo on the day of a conference.
  3. Sincere thanks all. With regards to the MS JVM. What can you tell me about potential security holes with this implementation? I presume that those have been corrected or do not apply as I do not suppose you would compromise your system for the sake of a faster running JRE? Also what is the JRE to a JVM? I realise that I have been using these terms interchangeably, but they are not exactly interchangeable, are they? Also what is the 'muffins' directory used for? C:\Documents and Settings\%user%\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javaws\muffins What the heck? Anyone recommend a Java forum with members enthusiastic enough about this stuff to be ready to make these obscure things clear to a neophyte?
  4. I have been trying to get to the bottom of what may be the best practices for installing Java functionality for WinXP. At present I dislike the fact that the JS2E Runtime Environment installation seems to require the downloading of some core packages that are expanded (zips) & processed by an 'online' (server side?) java installation applet. Why is this frustrating? Because this: 1. erodes the ability for the user to select or return to a previous version on his machine, or more simply 2. does not permit one to deploy the version downloaded to other machines or to reinstall. Also how would you slipstream this Sun JVM into a Windows SP2 or SP1 install disc? I may be losing my grip on the horns of the XP bull... help... *gulp*
  5. Hola buey. No se si se escribe asi El internet ha de ser mas 'interesante' cuando el ingles no es su primer idioma
  6. Were you aware of the commonly held opinion that the handshake represents a brief but mutual display of trust encapsulated by unihibited contact between people? Also it is believed that the hand would under more 'antagonistic conditions' reach for the hilt of a weapon & so the fact that the, fighting hand, was being offered open & empty was a real symbol of kinship bestowed if only temporarily. I come here in peace, & in the search of unattended installation guidance & streamlining applications. (Yes is was ridiculously elaborate introduction but what the heck? If you are going in, go all out ).
  7. Hey Famer, It the past it has been used as an excuse to launch personal hostility against me when I joined other forums - but I hope that will not occur here since what I am posting is done in a sincere bid to help. The only snag is that you seem to be based in the US. I have a shrink-wrapped copy of XP Pro retail I won at an MS conference 2-3 years ago - (hence SP free version). I would consider offers from anyone but they would have to be of 100 Sterling minimum.
