    Awesome work mate, this is the best tool Windows 8 could ask for, this will make Windows 8 the best OS of all time :)

    Thought I should show how I managed to use OldNewExplorer without needing to modify a single system file and all completely loaded on the fly at the click of a button in the personalization menu :)

    Are the Themeable Control Panel Navigation Panes going to be part of the project? And I'm looking forward to this new project.

    This wont be a standard feature, I have asked for it though and it will be implemented in a different way, it will be theme specific and be implemented in the way of modified UI files in shellstyle.dll so if a custom theme uses custom navigation panes for the control panel they will be applied with the theme, this will also be the same for other theme specific changes, so if you have a topshell theme (details pane on top) then you can add the custom UI files to the shellstyle.dll and it will be applied with the theme as shown in the image below.

    AERO GLASS for Win8.1 Beta 4

    Here is Beta 4 which contains a lot of internal changes, so I hope I didn't break anything.

    * HKCU atlas loading fix

    * multi-displays and rotated displays fixes

    * optimization: do not inflate dirty regions and do not use glass safety zone when rendered region does not contain glass

    * glow bitmap is read from system theme (or custom atlas if used), however, only horizontal sizing margins are respected due to the fact how Win8.1 deals with window caption (it seems to be a bug in DWM itself); vertical margins are always zero and glow bitmap is stretch over whole caption height

    * because there is no appropriate theme part to be used for reflection bitmap (aero peek background is not suitable), the reflection bitmap is read from PNG file specified in registry HKCU(or HKLM)\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM:CustomThemeReflection (SZ_STRING)

    * renamed registry settings CustomThemeResource to CustomThemeAtlas

    You still need to manually download symbols for udwm.dll, dwmcore.dll and dwm.exe else it won't work.

    Nice work BM, the reflection image loads great now with the new registry setting, shame you can't have a similar option for the old glow image as well, at least the margins worked with that one, just wondering though if the problem is more to do with the content margin and not the sizing margin, the Windows 7 Content margin for the glow is 17, 17, 8, 10.

    One request though, can you make the Custom theme Atlas load only with the default aero theme, the same as it was with the Windows 8 v1.2 glass?

    It says in that article that the Hosts file will usually have very little in it, well I just looked at mine and it has over 15 thousand sites listed in it, I was thinking of doing this but now I am not so sure I want to touch it, if the list had been small like it was in one of the old backup files I would have but this file has already been updated by MS a couple of times, the last time being the 3rd of the October 2013.

    Is there any part of the above registry that I can change to remove the ugly box around the text on the title bar in case no aero glass was installed? This box doesn't exist in the default theme of Windows but in all other customized ones. It's dim in some themes, Aero RP for example, but very visible in the others like Snowy, Aero 8...
    Can I get rid of this annoying box by changing a registry file? If yes, hope it's not too difficult or too complicated to do!

    No this can not be done with the registry or the theme file, the only way is with Aero Glass

    Tx for reply. In the end, after some more reboots, the Startup Lockscreen came back and stayed. So no more problems in that area. I specifically chose UXStyle over UltraUXThemePatcher because, allegedly, the latter interferes in system files (patches them) that may or may not at some point in the future prove to be problematic after a Windows Update, while the former apparently is only a memory hook and doesn't interfere in system files. Works like a charm! :thumbup

    Subsequently I installed Aero 8 Theme by xXiNightXx and to top it all off Big Muscle's Aero Glass for Win8 v1.2. Have a really nice desktop now. But then... another curious thing came to my notice. And has been there all the time, now that I remember. It's in the glow of the caption buttons. In the image (see below) I have compared the close caption buttons: top is part of an image I found in the Pirate Scapes Theme; bottom is from the desktop presentation of my own desktop Calculator. One can now clearly see that the bottom close caption button has an extra non-glow area between the button circumference and the actual red glow area around it, while the top one does not have that effect. What causes this? The same is true for the other two caption buttons (blue glow). My screen resolution is 1920x1080. Is the glow area not dynamic then?

    The problem is Windows 8, when you apply a new theme with different system metrics they don't get applied, in Windows 7 these were all changed with the theme so you could have different size borders and caption buttons, the only solution is manually edit the system metrics in the registry.

    Here you go, save this as a .reg file and apply, you will need to log off to take effect.

    My version of the CP theme, it's a bit of a mix with most things squared off to match the frame style and also has a few bits from the RTM theme as well to give it a better flow.

    Download the theme from Mediafire, there is also a reg file to change the system metrics.

    EDIT: Is not working the theme! On my computer with windows 8.1 and with all the windows updates it does not work because no difference after applying.

    With my vmware with windows 8.1 and no windows update installed it works .. Here the problem! The theme need update.

    The theme will work on 8 and 8.1 but you need uxstyle to use custom themes or aero glass with theme signature bypass enabled.

    This theme also needs to have start is back installed for the start menu and jump list to work correctly.

    Title Bar Text and Background in Windows 8.1

    Another way to remove that is using a blank font, it will remove the text on all windows as well as the box.

    Here you go mate I made one for you with the blank text and also made another with white text, there are also 2 reg files included for the system metrics, that is very important to apply as they don't work in Windows 8 when you change themes, they keep the system metrics from the default aero theme unless your using Windows Style Builder and then they get applied, I also included my own shellstyle.dll, you can rename the old one if you prefer no folderband, although by the looks of it in your screen you don't disable the ribbon anyway so you wont see it either way.

    I also included the blank font you will need.

    Tihiy you are able to get Transluceny in Start Menu (Styles Aero 8 StartIsBackPlus), do you think you could get/make the same Transluceny in Title bars ?

    Do you mean remove the background behind the address/search bar in explorer like it was in the consumer preview and Windows 7, yeah that would be great, maybe this is something to add the Explorer improvement program he is going to start work on. :w00t:

    Can you tell me the files of the ones to get from Consumer Preview other than the UIRibbon file and the corresponding mui ones from the en-US folder, just to make sure I'm getting the right ones? If you can, that'd be great. I've always remembered the Non-Flat Ribbon that use to be in Consumer Preview. I thought to myself, Why couldn't Microsoft leave that alone?

    You need 3 files, UIRibbon.dll, UIRibbonRes.dll and UIRibbon.dll.mui, just tried it and it worked.

    I made a couple of new reflection images, sort of based on the default ones but a bit sharper, I also made one 200% the size, the result is much a smoother looking reflection with no jagged edges.

    You will need to edit the DWMGlass.dll to replace the reflection image if you want to give them a go.

    here is a screen shot of what it does when I click the start button

    Could also be that new NVIDIA 331.58 driver, I have been reading the comments over there and lots of people are having problems with it, that's why I am sticking with my old trusted 314.22 the last driver that doesn't cause problems for my GTX580.

    I did see mention from a few others using 3 monitors also having various problems, not saying this is your problem though but maybe rolling back to another driver may be the first best step.

    Well considering you didn't actually mention what type of bugs and why on earth you would have to reinstall windows, one must only assume you posted this comment just to Troll Tihiy's awesome work and promote your crappy Startmenu8.

    I think the admin may need to give this guy the boot.
