Well, for anyone who cares... I figured out a workaround for this, but still not sure as to whats causing it. After a bunch of troubleshooting I realized that if I accessed my shares using my IP address instead of the hostname, I could see all of the folders without issue. I then added the IP and hostname of the PC which has the shares setup to the hosts file of the PC which i was trying to access the shares from and BLAM I was able to browse all folders without issue. Id still love to find out why the hell I need to do this in order to see all shares over the network... I really dont think Ive ever had this issue before....

I would also recommend reading the following section of the UACD guide if you havent already. Good luck! -
Its called 'batch'. Pretty simple stuff once you get the hang of it. http://www.google.com/search?q=batch+files...:en-US:official

RunOnceEX and GuiRunOnce together
durex replied to snakesjc's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Why would you want to use both methods? Its typically recommended that you use one or the other... I recommend RunOnceEx personally. -

[Release]: TCPIP.SYS Patch RTM.2180 (100 Connec.)
durex replied to SiMoNsAyS's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Hrm.. so lets say I have like 5-7 (def no more than 10) shares setup on my main pc, of which has numerous folders inside of each share, but only accessing these shares from 2 PC's max. Should this limitation have anything to do with random folders not appearing under some of my shares? I apologize if Im getting this thread too far off topic, but Ive been searching like a madman and this was the only topic that seemed it even remotely had to do with my problem. And Ryan.. what do you mean by 'incomplete' connections? Thanks again guys. -
[Release]: TCPIP.SYS Patch RTM.2180 (100 Connec.)

Hate to pull up old topics... but does this have any corrilation with windows file sharing? In other words, lets say I share out a ton of files from my pc for others on my network to access. If I have more than 50 items shared (or whatever the default is) should I apply this fix? I only ask because Im having major unexplained issues trying to access certain shares on my pc from other pcs on my network. Thanks! -
Well, for 1- I hate quick time. Its a bloated, resource intensive, useless app that i need for 2% of all media I ever download... But for that 2%.. and like you touched on... for iTunes to run, I do install QuickTime alternative. Currently, for my unattended install, I install iTunes using your great recommendations, then I have a VBScript, which calls the QuickTime uninstaller and sends the keyboard command to 'uninstall everything' for quick time, then I install quicktime alternative after this. If I could figure out how to simply not include the quicktime components, it would help me remove an entire step from my install processes. Remind me again.. where did you find these added parameters? If you can point me in the right direction, I can do the research on it. Thanks again!

I do... search some more.

I dont suppose anyone knows if theres a switch to not install the QuickTime components?

well holy s***... thx for the tip voice! ive been using that other service for like 4 yrs now and the 1 pain in the a** part is the few times my ip does change i have to wait until 6am the next day for the name to be updated. ive got a linksys router which also supports that same feature... i always noticed it, but figured it was a pay thing as well... thanks a ton!

Another GREAT thing about Remote Desktop is that you can transfer sound from your home pc, to the pc you dialing in from. If your using a broadband connection, this allows you to easily listen to your entire MP3 collection, without the need to transferring the files anywhere... and the best part is- it sounds no different than if you were listening to them on your home pc itself! oh.. and did i mention its free? On cartoonites point, eye never did say what type of access he wanted. If he just needs access to his files but doesnt need to control them from his home pc, theres absolutely no reason to use any of the products anyone has mentioned above. As cartoon said, simply set up your PC as an FTP server (which can be done using IIS or preferrably by a 3rd party app, of which theres PLENTY of- I use Bulletproof's G6 FTP server) or you could even setup web shares using IIS as well, which allows me to stream music and vid from my home pc (again, assuming you have broadband connections). Regardless of what youre looking for, you should have a ton of ideas now of which route you should take (of which should be a FREE solution- NOT one of the options that will cost you money). btw- always keep in mind firewall / router settings if youre planning accessing your pc from outside. And if you have a static IP or at least an IP that doesnt change very often- I highly recommend swinging over to here and paying the 5 bucks to get yourself a domain name. Its a heck of a lot easier to remember a domain name than an IP address and if your broadband service is like mine, where my IP changes about once every 3-4 months, you can easily change it to point to your new IP without any hassles (short of having to wait about a day for it to take effect) welp... theres my novel- in case you couldnt tell I access my home pc- a lot (FTP, Web server, stream MP3s, remote desktop) and i can do it all without spending a cent (or using pirated software for that matter and short of the 5 bucks / yr i spend on a domain name). Hope this helps!

I go for the exact same thing.... dont think theres anyway to place it in the system tray, but what you can do (and what i do) is place a shortcut to your recycle bin in your quick launch toolbar. This way you can remove recycle bin from the desktop, but still have the easy access of emptying and accessing it.

Im having some major problems with Windows XP file sharing over my LAN. I have numerous folders shared out from 1 pc and when I goto browse them from another xp pc, there are a number of random sub-folders that i can either dont show up or cannot view the contents of. Its extremely annoying and I just cant figure out what the hell is going on. Ive double checked security and share permissions on both pc's, tried re-created the share, rebooting and dont see any reason as to why this is occuring. The really strange thing is, I can type the full path to one of these hidden folders and it will show the contents... Any suggestions?

Anyone have suggestions as to decent free burning software? I dont need it to do anything fancy... the only function I really need (in addition to straight data burning) is to burn a cd image to file (i.e. iso, bin, etc) It be better yet if it was stand-alone so I could toss it on my usb key... but thats not a requirement. Thanks!

you know i did, but it didnt really have the functionality i was looking for.. that seemed to be more geared towards tracking and bidding.. i just want a simple notifier.

no way im paying 40 bucks for ebay monitoring software

Well, I think the service you guys are thinking of is the 'Terminal Services' service... I found a few sites referencing to causes of this problem. Thing is I think it actually has to do with NAV... Ive been having issues with it where it wont allow me to 'Permit' my Ftp server software to the safe list of suspected Internet worms.. so I uninstalled and reinstalled it.. now I can see all of the usernames without issue... but now it wont let me update the NAV Main engine.... grr... oh.. and to KJxp.. its the storm theme.

tasklist cmd seems to work fine... i think... it shows more processes when I filter it by username than is listed under the normal task manager.... Anyone else??
