  1. What no COBOL fans? ... oh wait that is limited in programming ability.

    Schools now adays are going for Java. So if you want to hit the books early I suggest that language. Supposibly the easier languages out there to learn and has no end to what it can do (relatively speaking in terms of time period).

    Java just takes time to learn ... about as much as perl, C and C++. VB I thought was the easiest to pick up (that and ASP uses VB) ... but thats my experience. I personally wish COBOL would release something new :D as that language is fun to work with, dont ask cause i sure hell dont know myself :P

  2. Actually my MP3 player plays may formats ... including WMA.

    My mp3 player plays several different file formats, including WMA.

    In anycase, I suggest looking for a WMA to MP3 converter (search for it on google). Thats pretty easy in itself, I personally used Advanced WMA Workshop in the past (watch out for the limits when using trial version). Or since you legally own the song now ... go download an unprotected song from some torrent site, irc, or elsewhere there is music to be downloaded :P (course this is if thats within your legal limits per contract of "owning" those songs)

  3. Redundancy is best though. Think of it as a classroom where we need to repeat ourselves to get that freaking A we always desired. HA.

    Actually I did search for it, but for some reason "Favorite Applications" didnt pop anything up, course I am considered blind at times. If you want to redirect me to some other threads as a "just in case" scenerio (just in case no one feels like reposting :P), I would gladly go to those and read to my hearts content. Otherwise CHEERS for redundancy!

    Oh Oh and one more thing ... if there are so many threads like this one ... how come there isnt a STICKY of one of them ... hmmm hmmm yeah thats right LoL. Just an idea for ya to take intrest to.

  4. Its an option when compressing a file using WinRAR.

    Open WinRAR

    Select all the files you wish to add to a compressed file

    Commands > Add Files to Archive (opens a dialog box)

    Under the General Tab there is a section called Archiving Options. One of the options is Create SFX Archive. Select this and there you have it.

  6. Only a 100 meg eh? I had to download 2 gig a couple of times for a game, specifically Star Wars Galaxies. Doesnt bother me though ... I remember when it took 30 mins to an hour to download an mp3 that was maybe 4 meg. So i am pretty happy if i can get 100 meg in about 5 - 15 mins.

  7. Did you happen to ever play an astroids game that allowed not only different weapons but multiplayer at the same time. During this multiplay you could combine forces and have like a guy that flies and shoots only forward, and the other guys are turrents or in control of special weapons. Really old game for the commador ... could have sworn it started with Mega, LoL, course think about it alot of games during that era was called Mega <fill in the blank>.

    Cheers for the Gunbound ... hope they didnt make it pay2play as such rumors were at the time (doubt it though).

  8. Played it about a year or so ago. If you remember and even remotely liked the game called Tanks for the old atari ... then this is a must try. It puts a twist on the game though. Each char has different weapons ... and each char can have different gear such as shirt, armor, etc, depending how many matchs you won to obtain Credits. Its a cute RPG like version of tanks, worth a shot whether you know what tanks is or not.

  9. First you have to know the path in which you want to delete files from. See the batch variable DEL_PATH

    Second you need to know the name of the file. In my example I want to delete the quick launch link to PSPad. Its link name happens to be PSPad.lnk. See batch variable DEL_PROG

    ** NOTE **

    If you wish to remove all links do not set DEL_PROG to *.* ... instead set it to *.lnk ... *.* will produce a Y/N prompt window (defeats purpose of unattended installing) cause of the Show Desktop quick launch.

    ** END NOTE **

    Third combine the two within Quotes as seen below the batch comment DELETE LINE

    @ECHO OFF

    ::DEL_PATH points to the directory where you want to delete files
    SET DEL_PATH=C:\Documents and Settings\Schrys\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\

    ::DEL_PROG defines what the files name is
    ::         in this example I want to remove the PSPad Quick Lanuch link
    SET DEL_PROG=PSPad.lnk

    ECHO Deleleting file %DEL_PROG%
    ECHO From the path %DEL_PATH%

    ::DELETE LINE
    DEL "%DEL_PATH%%DEL_PROG%"

    Hope this is what you were looking for

  10. @mazin

    LoL ... handy tool and dangerous. I learned my lesson to back things up a long time ago. Reformats, harddrive crashes, stupid people deleting something they shouldnt, etc ... so yeah I have a drive for purely production, a backup device or two, and the main drive for testing. So far everything has worked out nice ... knock on wood.

    @crahak

    Eh my system goes under constant change and I personally dont like some changes. Having that reboot option is great ... only problem which is a PITA is settings are lost. If I like something enough ... just boot in thawed mode (making sure network connection is gone for safty precautions) and install that program or change a setting.

    As for purchasing liscenses ... I didnt want more than 3 or 4, I should have said it wasn't for home use. Oh well ... I learned I can go through my work for a much much cheaper price (usually free).

    @zbeta

    CleanSlate sounds like a decent tool, gonna have to try it out. Thanks

  11. @magicfly

    I still play Diablo2. Never played much of Diablo1 on the account the friends were never into it.

    @DysfunktinaL

    I completely forgot about Ragnarok. That game was a hoot. I loved flat graphic look of the characters within a 3d environment. I tried getting into // hosting a personal server ... but people added a bunch of crap to the game that didnt make it fun (ex. free money, free lvl ups, etc), and I didnt feel like messing with a bunch of files (YARE specifically i believe) to get a server up. Decent game even though its another Pay2Play, unless you go to a private server ... but hey 15day trial may convince one its worthy of being supported.

    @Bi0haZarD

    LoL to each his own. I just suggested to try the game, never said go run out and start worshiping the game. Yes it is buggy, one could say its still in beta stage, but like I said if your into the whole star wars thing and able to look past a few quarks ... it may be worth a shot.

  12. Surprisingly I only came across one thread that wasnt even related to DeepFreeze. So here I am bringing up the software title.

    This program once installed can "Freeze" the selected hardrives from being changed permantely. Say you get a virus on your computer and being like me hating most anti virus programs dont have one installed. Well if you have DeepFreeze installed a simple reboot will revert the harddrive to the state it was in when it was frozen.

    My personal use is the above and to test programs out without using VMWare or something similar. Not really sure if its the best program to use, but my old school uses it on systems the students and teachers have access to and it seems to be working great for them, and myself.

    Downside to this program. When I went to purchase rights to the darn thing, the company wont sell less than 10 ... and thats even contacting them. So I used the trial (standard) version (not as cool or as functional as the pro version) for awhile till I could get a pro copy from my work place for "work related" purposes.

    Anyway try it out http://www.faronics.com/html/product.asp. I would like to hear any comments about this and // or alternate programs.

  13. If ya liked battlefield 1942, you will probably like this ... unless the whole star wars or pure sci fi'y action to it scares ya. I didnt like battlefield 1942 and liked SW:battlefront ... so who knows.

    I enjoyed alot of aspecs in this game. The menu and interactions between were something I havent seen before ... so that was pretty cool. Graphic wise ... I personally would say great, but considering i work with a 15 inch monitor with a low to mid end computer system ... my opinion is based on a comparison with Wolfenstien ... yes the original.

    The gameplay was easy to pick up on and there was plenty room for improvement as I found out on the hardest difficulty. All the vechiles rock ... ever wanted to fly a snow speeder and take an AT-AT out ... your dreams will come true. Sure there are other games out there that let you do that, this game made it feel right though ... dont ask how it just did. Ever want to use that AT-AT to take a snow speeder out ... yeah thats fun as well MWA HAHHA. There are probably around 10 to 15 vehicles. I liked the character selects (Clones, Rebels, Imperial), each "race" had at least 3 picks at any given time.

    What was interesting was single player. Threw me a curve ball when I played it. You get to choose a planet to defend or attack. After beating or losing that planet, you either lose or gain a component that improves your teamates aim, sensors, added vehicles, etc. It is a cool concept. And between missions ... you get to see parts of the movies themselves (depending which era that mission is from).

    Multiplayer ... eh it keeps my friends and myself busy for enough hours to say its a worthy lan game. I believe this one might stick to lan parties a bit ... well at least with my friends running the lan :P

    My opinion with games however is always ... try before buy ... I got stiffed on some Awesome looking games (based on designers, readings, reviews, movies, etc) ... but in the end they just sucked. So go find someone with it or ... not to promote piracy or anything but download it ... try it ... dont like ditch it ... else buy it.

    Personally I like a good First Person shooter like HalfLife, Doom3, CounterStrike and UnrealTournament (orginal and 2004)
