  1. MCT, What settings did you use to prevent picasa from loading after install? So far this is what I am using but it still pops up after I install silent. reg add HKCU\Software\Google\Picasa\Picasa2\Preferences\HotFolders /v 0 /d "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\My Pictures\\" /f reg add HKCU\Software\Google\Picasa\Picasa2\Preferences\HotFolders /v 1 /d "%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\\" /f reg add HKCU\Software\Google\Picasa\Picasa2\Preferences\HotFolders /v 2 /d "%USERPROFILE%\Desktop\\" /f Dennis
  2. I am running wpi using the .cmd file included which is successfully importing the reg file with the styles fix. However unless you reboot you still see the error with a script causing your computer to slow down. Since I tend to run wpi on the fly via a USB pen drive or via a WPI CD there is no T-13 to take advantage of. Unless I import the reg file then reboot and run wpi I have this problem. What is the latest on this? Any work around if you are not using wpi on an unattended xp where you can use the t-13 to import the reg? Dennis
  3. bump anyone run across this issue? I cannot seem to figure this one out. Dennis
  4. This works great if you do your install over the network of from a folder on your local hard drive, but if you burn your setup files to DVD then it only gets halfway and bombs out, if you remove the /qb then you see that it is asking for the second cd in the middle of the install. I have yet to figure out how to force the **** thing to just install 100% becaues all the files are there and they work great from the hard drive. Seems as if it needs write support to the files. Dennis
  5. Hey guys, hoping someone can help me here. I am trying to do a silent install of Streets and Trips 2005 to use on my unattended DVD. I have already combined both CDs into one place and successfully did an admin install first and have my data.mst file all ready to go. The total size is 1.2 GB and works great as long as I run it from the hard drive. But as soon as I burn this streets folder to DVD the install only works half way until it asks for CD2. It never asks for CD2 when I run the same data.msi from the hard drive??? Anyone know how to solve this? This is the command line I am using data.msi transforms=data.mst /passive /norestart but have also tested a manual isntall by just clicking data.msi and walking through it. Aagain it works fine if run from a folder on the hard drive but will not complete when run from DVD. I assume this has something to do with needing write access? Would be nice to solve this without having to first copy the 1.2gb to hard drive and run install from there. Dennis
  6. Hasi, This thread is getting long. Maybe we can start a new thread and just paste the current suggestions on your list in the first post. Anyway my suggestion to make wpi even better would be something I briefly mentioned before where there is a check box next to the category name so that when you check it it auto checks all apps in that category. This becomes very useful for department apps where we can make a category for that department and all their apps are listed and can be checked all at once instead of one at a time. Seems like it would be easy to implement and with an option to show or hide the cateogory check box feature would keep those who wont use it happy. Dennis
  7. Hasi, Well I almost got themes removed Anyway, everyone knows my opinion so I will drop the request but will point out concerns when I see them. You are doing an awesome job keeping up with things Hasi, and smart to slow the releases down a bit. Just like my request feel comfortable shooting some requests down or pushing back. The majority seem to want themes I guess but like you said more importantly you actually want to use them. For me I played with some themes but saw that my hard work was shown on the screen for like 20 seconds, and usually less than 20 since I typically run wpi click then walk away. I was also frustrated that some machines would show my work great, some would be messed up, and some where the video driver did not detect and install in my unattended would look horrible. So if you do incorporate a way to turn off theme and font then awesome. I wont mention the column issue since from your posts it appears you already are aware. One idea you may want to consider is marking some versions stable or current stable then release some newer stuff as beta so that as the newbies come around and pm you all the time you can just point them back to the latest stable version. As we test here and give you feedback on bugs you can then update your recommendation on the latest stable. Dennis
  8. Hasi, I think it is smart to remove the themes for now, and would not classify myself as a p***er and moaner Just think its smart. I mean what is the purpose of this awesome program? To look pretty or to install programs in a nice easy way? How long do you see all your hard pretty work? About 20 seconds? Lets not kill another awesome program by filling it up with things to make it look cool. Lets keep it lean mean fast and bug free. my two cents. Testing the .cmd file again on a few machines hasi and will get back to you. Could very well be a problem with my test box. more to come. Dennis
  9. Thanks for the link, I did have access to that file but pointed it out because this means everyone running wpi now would need to download that file. It would be ideal to either include it with wpi or not use it since we want this to run on any default xp install. Besides putting the cmdow in system32 only fixes the first problem of it saying the program is not recongized. The screenshot problem still happens. It gives me the error for drive E and F even with cmdow working. Both E and F are just empty cdrom drives. I am a little concerned and this is just my opinion, but I see this happen to may awesome programs, with adding too many things outside of the purpose of the program, that cause it to bloat, slow down or have issues. I do see that many would like the themes and pretty fonts, backgrounds etc, but that comes at a cost to size, speed and potential issues. I would love a WPI lite version that sticks only to making it work, with no theme support and need to have .cmd files run other files that finally launch the .hta file. But let me also say I love this program and am grateful for all the hard work Hasi has put into this. He has put many hours of back and forth fixing bugs, and is so quick and responsive getting back to us. So this is only my opinion. Dennis
  10. Hasi, I get this error when running wpi.cmd And I see this screenshot When I click continue it does same error for drive F My system is C and D are Windows XP, E Combo DVD/CDRW and F is DVD both are empty and do not have a cd in them. For those of us not needing or wanting to use themes, do we still need to run the wpi.cmd? Dennis
  11. using bbie I exported the following 3 files bootcatalog.bin bootrecord.bin image1.bin I assume all I do is rename image1.bin to image1.img and use it in nero? Also the settings I am using are based on this site, is this the best way to burn an unattended cd? nero xp sp2 Dennis
  12. What program is the best to use to extract the boot sector image file from and XP CD? The reason for this is when making my unattended DVD I do not want to have to create an iso and then burn the iso. Instead I want to use Nero to make the bootable DVD on the fly but I need the Microsoft Corporation.img file. I also do not want to just download the img file as I would prefer to know how to extract it and make sure it is the correct file. I played around with ultraiso and winimage and winiso but do not see how to extract as an img file. with ultraiso I can extract a .bif file but not sure how to use that in nero. Or is the .bif file the same as .img and I can just rename it? Dennis
  13. possibly related I found a big problem when using cond statement. Cond works in that it will show or not show the program when you launch wpi, but any application you put the cond statement on will not install. They show up in the menu but do not intall. As soon as I remove the cond statement all apps install ok. Here is my cond statement cond[pn]=['FileExists("%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\AdAware\\aawsepersonal.exe")'] When turning on debug it appears everything is ok until you check a box, then it runs through a condition statement which fails on every app because it is looking in "Irom%\Install" which I is my cdrom driver so it seems to be replacing cd with I instead of replacing %cdrom% with I: Also I get this error when trying to exit after debugging Dennis
  14. Hasi, 3.3 is working perfectly now for autorun.inf, even on my usb flash drive. Also conditions exlc deps, its all working beautifully. This version meets every need I have at this point. Awesome work! Dennis
  15. Asta, Very interesting that it works if you put wpi in the root instead of in a wpi folder. Using the code you posted does work. But as soon as you move wpi into a folder it no longer works. Since it worked in older versions of wpi there has to be something causing this to fail when put in a folder. Good work around for now though. Dennis
  16. Thanks, Your right, it already works easily this way and much easier to read in the reg. The info worked perfectly. I will use cmd for cmd importing from my runonce.cmd file and use the inf for quick fixes. Is there a way to use an inf from the command line and have it install or import? Dennis
  17. hasi, Downloaded your latest but am still getting this error when I use the autorun.inf I posted above and double click on usb pen drive autorun.inf [autorun] ShellExecute=wpi\WPI.hta What is odd is if I double click on wpi.hta manually it runs ok. But if I have the autorun.inf and right click and choose autoplay or if I just double click on the driver letter of my usb flash drive I get the javasript error. I wish I can remember exactly what was the latest version of wpi that worked with the autorun but I can't. I think it was 4 or 5 versions ago when I last tested this. Any ideas? Dennis
  18. I made this reg file using binary data but it still wont work. The paths are correct in the registry (I think?) reg file Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup] "Installation Sources"=hex(7):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,53,00,75,00,70,00,70,00,6f,00,\ 72,00,74,00,5c,00,69,00,33,00,38,00,36,00,00,00,00,00 "SourcePath"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,44,00,72,00,69,\ 00,76,00,65,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,75,00,70,00,70,00,6f,00,72,00,74,00,00,00 "ServicePackSourcePath"=hex(2):25,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,44,00,\ 72,00,69,00,76,00,65,00,25,00,5c,00,53,00,75,00,70,00,70,00,6f,00,72,00,74,\ 00,00,00 Here is what the reg looks like Dennis
  19. I too am now getting this javascript error when I use the autorun.inf where it did not give this error before. If I run wpi.hta manually it works fine, but if I use the autorun then this is what I see Dennis
  20. Here is the autorun.inf that I use on my 1gb cruzer flash drive. autorun.inf [autorun] ShellExecute=wpi\WPI.hta Put your wpi folder at the root of your pen drive or cd. MAKE SURE you put the WIN51 file on the root of your pen or cdrom because wpi searches for this file. Keep in mind if you put this on a USB pen drive it will not autorun, BUT if you double click the drive letter from my computer then it WILL autorun. Or you can right click the pen drive and select autoplay. By default removable drives do not work with autorun. But if you burn this on a CD or DVD the autorun works fine. I actually prefer this behavior because I use my usb pen drive for many things besides wpi and would rather not have it auto load the wpi screen every time I plug it in. This way if I need wpi I just double click the drive letter. If I dont then windows xp pops up a choice window anyway that I choose browse for my other uses. Dennis
  21. This is a variation of my earlier request to have wpi scan for programs and if they do not exist to grey them out or hide them, making it much easier to use one config package of wpi for many different things like an unattended CD, and unattended DVD, a pen usb flash drive etc. This way the same package minus the actual install files will work everywhere, any apps that are missing are simply greyed out. I say this is a variation request because that previous request seems a little crazy to implement since most of the time wpi will not see any of the apps until you burn the cd since I use %cdrom% etc it wont find them for testing. Sooo, my variation is this. How about you add another check box right next to default and forced called hidden? And then all we do is click config and add the checks for the apps we dont want to appear on our list? Seems easy enough and this way we wont have to delete the code, but instead just put a check for the items that might not fit or might be appropriate for that media. Another idea would be to put at the top of the config list before it starts all of the individual apps a simple box that only shows the title of the apps so that we could quickly put checks or uncheck the apps we want displayed, preventing us from having to scroll down through each app to find the hidden check box. Sorta of like an index at the top making it so fast and easy to hide unhide. This would also move us closer to standard application archives where people could download a large application archive with all the code and then just put the binaries they own in the right folder and put checks in just those apps. And this has been said before but would like to second that; the ability to have column breaks, and if one category goes to a second colum to have the application start at the same level as the previous column first application and not to start at the same level as a category title. Dennis
  22. Hasi, Version 3.3 fixed the odd behavior with deps and excl. My bad as well missing the one excl that was changed to deps. I think that was a result of the config wizard bug. All seems fixed and working now. Dennis
  23. Hasi, I am using 3.2.3 and for your testing here is my config.js file config.js Possible bug with exlcusions: 3 of 4 work but cannot get all 4 to work. For some reason 'Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel PowerPoint)' is always greyed out and can never be checked. If I use the config wizard to put the exlusions and use this: O2K3WEP,O2K3WE,O2K3W Then after saving from config wizard and opening config wizard again it has been changed to this O2K3WEP,O2K3WE','O2K3W So I then bypassed using the config wizard and checked the config file itself and even though it looks odd in the config wizard it appears perfect when you view in notepad, see below prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3WEPO'] excl[pn]=['O2K3WEP','O2K3WE','O2K3W'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook.'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=Unattended.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel PowerPoint)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3WEP'] deps[pn]=['O2K3WEPO','O2K3WE','O2K3W'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=WordExcelPowerPoint.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3WE'] excl[pn]=['O2K3WEP','O2K3WEPO','O2K3W'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word Excel'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=WordExcel.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3W'] excl[pn]=['O2K3WEP','O2K3WE','O2K3WEPO'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=Word.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ So then I tried this on the exclusion line 'O2K3WEP','O2K3WE','O2K3W' And then checked the config file itself but then it is really messed prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3WEPO'] excl[pn]=['\\','O2K3WEP\\','\\','O2K3WE\\','\\','O2K3W\\'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook.'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=Unattended.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel PowerPoint)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3WEP'] deps[pn]=['\\','O2K3WEPO\\','\\','O2K3WE\\','\\','O2K3W\\'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=WordExcelPowerPoint.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word Excel)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3WE'] excl[pn]=['\\','O2K3WEPO\\','\\','O2K3WEP\\','\\','O2K3W\\'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word Excel'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=WordExcel.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++ prog[pn]=['Microsoft Office 2003 (Word)'] uid[pn]=['O2K3W'] excl[pn]=['\\','O2K3WEPO\\','\\','O2K3WEP\\','\\','O2K3WE\\'] desc[pn]=['Installs Microsoft Word'] cmd1[pn]=['%cdrom%\\Install\\Software\\Office2003\\Office2003.exe'] cmd2[pn]=['%systemdrive%\\Support\\Applications\\Office2003\\setup.exe TRANSFORMS=Word.MST /qb-! /noreboot'] cat[pn]=['Office (Chooose Only One)'] pn++
  24. Great info guys, You both beat me back to this post, after the command line suggestion I worked out the same code pretty much. Here is what I was about to post as using in my cmd file reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup" /v "Installation Sources" /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d "%SystemDrive%\Support\i386" /f reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup" /v SourcePath /d %SystemDrive%\Support /f reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup" /v ServicePackSourcePath /d %SystemDrive%\Support /f reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion" /v SourcePath /d %SystemDrive%\Support\I386 /f Good to know also about REG_EXPAND_SZ, I was not aware that you could use variables as long as you use REG_EXPAND_SZ So if I wanted to use REG_EXPAND_SZ in my reg file I would not be able to import it using regedit /s ? How would I do an expandable multi value like Installation Sources? It does seem the simplest method is the 4 reg add lines pasted above and just add them to the install.cmd that kicks off all my stuff. EDIT did a test by creating registry entries using REG_EXPAND_SZ with a value of %SystemDrive%\Support but this did not work. I was asked for the CD and the path still was looking for %SystemDrive%\Support so it was never converted. Not that I need to learn this method since adding the 4 lines to cmd file works but I must be doing something wrong getting the REG_EXPAND_SZ working. Dennis
  25. I am in the process of adding the feature to copy i386 from my unattended CD to my hard drive. I read all the posts on the topic and found two solutions that seem the best to try. Gosh Method is to use an xcopy script to copy the files Jazkal Method is to put a second copy of i386 in the $OEM$\$1 folder and use the -o switch with cdimage so as not to suffer from duplicates on your CD. My problem is adding the source location in the registry so that Windows knows where to go when it needs source files. Currently this registry file works great but it is not very flexible since I am forced to C: instead of using variables. I tried replacing the C: with %SystemDrive% but then the registy shows exactly that "%SystemDrive%" and when I try to install anything that needs the CD you get the prompt asking for the CD and the default location is %SystemDrive%. How can I get this to work? WORKING Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup] "Installation Sources"=hex(7):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,49,00,33,00,38,00,36,00,00,00,\ 00,00 "SourcePath"="C:" "ServicePackSourcePath"="C:" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] "SourcePath"="C:\\I386" NOT WORKING Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup] "Installation Sources"=hex(7):43,00,3a,00,5c,00,49,00,33,00,38,00,36,00,00,00,\ 00,00 "SourcePath"="%SystemDrive%" "ServicePackSourcePath"="%SystemDrive%" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion] "SourcePath"="%SystemDrive%\\I386"
