Well, to be honest, i've bought the fisrt edition of W2Kpro in the golden days of 2000 [ my first OS was MSDOS 5! ] So i'm detemined to create Booooootable DVD containing official & UNofficial updates hotfixes & paraphernalias for ENU-ITA-ESN versions of W2KPRO... Furthermore i'm using M$ virtual Pc 2004 (as virtual machine, of course hosted on W2Kpro) 'cause i'm an addict to shell extension ! (menus context, shell namespace, properties pages, thumbnails views & listview controls of explorer and so on... i think the best book i've ever read about is the old but unsurpassed Visual C++ Windows Shell Programming by Dino Esposito!) And i'd like to know in advance which'll crashed explorer...and which NOT installing on the ENU flavor of W2K your UURollup... @tomasz Hi Tom I´m using and enjoying my genuine copy of W2K ITA on a Laptop/Notebook/UltraBook (?) relatively old, Acer Aspire 4320 ( Information Technology have a faster than light built-in obsolescence ) that officially (LOL) it coudn't support win 2000 [XP only, as oldest MS O.S. supported]. I've found a little issue about MD 2.7 and chkdsk on xp-sp3 here... i don't know if it's important in the context of w2k but... i've downloaded Windows2000-UURollup-v11-d130105-x86-ENU.7z from DropBox and my AV avast! 4.8 is yelling that sfc.dll is a trojan. @tomasz86 Actually i'm not using the copy&paste method with Res-Hacker The program can save every single res. in a .TXT file containing the data (string in this case) coded in binary format like this: 2049.txt = 000611D0 49 00 72 00 61 00 71 00 00 I•r•a•q•• . Then i replace the correspondent res. in the ENU version importing the data from the .TXT file. Do you think that Unicode format will be preserved using this raw method ? I agree PeExplorer is one of the best res editor - disassembler ! i've found two nice tools: XN Resource Editor & Melander Resource Editor both free . I was using Anolis when it was in Alpha stage and is a pretty nice proggy. regards hackeronte

Tom, maybe i've expressed myself imprecisely : SURE, it IS possible to copy and paste every single string and message with one of these tools: Resource Hacker (free) Resource Tuner (shrwr) Resource Tuner Console (shrwr) PE explorer (shrwr) Restorator 2007 (shrwr) etc. etc. What i was looking for it was a tool capable of replace THE WHOLE String Table or Message Table at once (in a single operation) i'm still searching with the hope to find some obscure or underground rev. eng. site in the unfathomed deep of the Internet abyss hiding such little jewel. In the meantime i've already replaced (as a personal experiment) almost the 60% of the ENU resources of kernerl32 ver. 5.0.2195.7187 copyng and pasting every single line contained in the res section of the DLL But i'm agree with you: i'll wait until your realese will reach a reasonable point of stability in his developement...Or at least until you will tell me: "O.K. lad this version of exe or dll is the definitive one" At the same time i'll check the progress of your project...I've got an eye on you, man ! @tomasz86 Hi Tom i've uploaded the file on skydrive... in the meantime i've searched for a PE tool capable to replace the whole STRING TABLE or MESSAGE TABLE type of resource but unfortunately - nothing found - so i'm replacing manually (monkey-job) every string or message ENG to ITA with Resource Hacker I'd like to know if kernel32.dll version 5.0.2195.7187 will be the definitive version included in the final release of Unofficial SP; OR if you're planning some other critical change, 'cause in this case i'll wait until the final release will be ready! @tomasz86 I think that there should exist a way to just copy all of the strings from kernel32.dll (ITA) to kernel32.dll (ENU)... I'll find & check the way, thanks. By the way, for the translation, can i use the kernel32.dll contained in the latest ENU daily release of UURollup (Windows2000-UURollup-v11-d...6-ENU.7z), am i right ? if yes, which file ? cause we have 3 kernel32.dll : one contained in nt6 folder, another in uniproc folder and a last one in the 7z archive (root dir) thanks regards

At this time i'm pretty busy so i can't answer punctually to your last call ( #211 if i remeber well ) The ITA version can be released a little bit later if necessary. <-- i'm perfectly & positively agree with you, time is not important only life is important ! I think that it would be good to have a new script <-- As above, it woul be wonderful to have such script, but don't worry i think it woud be better to test thoroughly the ENU version an then work with much ease the ITA stuff ( what do you think or suggest ? ). You can also try to start translating files which will have to be translated for sure <-- if you could write a partial list of the main files or of the most laborious files which definitively need a translation that would be of help, thanks. At the moment I'm fighting with this newest version of kernel32.dll <-- BWC generously wrote a ITA ( Italian Windows2000-KB979683-v8-x86-ITA.exe ) Do you think that version could possibly works for ITA Unofficial SP 5.2 ? I'm re-doing on the weekly release of version 11 what you instructed me in ( #56, #62, #80, #87, #104, #105, until #141 ) [see post #207 for the links] Please tell me IF this is useless and IF it would be better to wait for the stable version of UURollup-v11 and only then begin the ITA project, thanks. The planned release date is 24th November. Don't worry at all about the date i'm perfectly aware about the technicality & intricacy of the matter. @tomasz86 Actually, at the moment I'm not sure whether there will ever be a stable version of UURollup-v11... It does work but it requires so much time to prepare and test that I'm not sure whether there's a point in doing that any longer. I'm a little bit confused Tom, I was trying to do the same work that we've done on version 10 ( #56, #62, #80, #87, #104, #105, until #141 ) also on version 11 but...now, what do you suggest !?
