I think you need a flashing program on the disk. I recently screwed up the BIOS on my ABIT A17 motherboard and after digging up a floppy disk, downloading the flash program and the latest bios, I was able to reflash the bios by putting the floppy in and starting up. Maybe try installing a floppy disk drive If you don't have one already and see if it asks for a file. My MB was searching for awardflsh.exe i think.

I have not tried to migrate yet. I don't know how to and if I can so i thought I'd see if anyone has done such a thing here. Thanks for you help again.

Hi, Thanks for the reply mate. My windows install is on a seperate IDE drive so no worries with drivers ect. I have already added the SATA controller and can access some SATA hard drives. I've also already reinstalled windows. My real query is how do I migrate from one controller to the other? I can't really keep the existing card because it conflicts with the chipset on the Motherboard and the 1210SA drives me up the wall. Thanks for the help

I bought an Adaptec 1210SA RAID SATA controller and two 160GB Hard drivers a few months ago. I've combinded them into one 320GB hard drive which has about 30-40gb free space. Its a Window Media Centre PC so all that hard drive space is for recorded TV shows. Anyway my motherboard died thanks to a dodgy powersupply that went kamakze on me. So I bought a new MB with a SATA RAID controller onboard. First question. If I decide to ditch the 1212SA and go for the onboard option, do I have to remove all of the stuff on the hard drive, reformat them using the new controller and copy all the stuff back on? Or is there another way? Second Question. If the answer to the first question is no, Does anyone have 300gb of free space they could lend me? Third and serious question. Is this wise? I've heard someone say that onboard SATA controller can be slower because they connect at the southbridge and not the northbridge. I don't know enough about hardware to make sense of this but the argument was in response to stuttering playback of a recorded tv file on a Window Media Centre machine. I don't use a Radeon card but I use a program called UltraMon for my Nvidia dual head setup. Ultramon has got some options for streching one wallpaper over two screens I think. Check it out here UltraMon Homepage

Well I solved my own problem. The first time I ran the unattended instal, the boot up image kernel hack was installed using the /kernel=... parameter in bootcfg. Well this failed because it was the wrong kernel for my chip but it worked with VMWare because VMware doesn't support Hyperthreading. The problem came when i removed the bootcfg command from the unattended install. XP setup didn;t correct the mistake in the boot.ini file it just accepted the file as is. Therfore the same problem occured.

Hi, I've made a simple XP SP2 unattended install that installs a few other apps after XP. These include Office 2003, NAV, Sygate Personal Firewall I have tested the image file i created using the CDImage tool from MSFN's guide. The VMware virtual machine worked perfectly without out fail. However when I try are run the installation on my PC, the text mode setup runs as usual, copies the files and resets as normal. When the computer reboots, the boot menu appears and I select the new XP (I dual boot with an old XP on a second seperate drive) The screen goes black and the computer freezes. First thing I did was to go into safe mode and watch to see where the computer stopped. I noticed that it was mup.sys which was the last item to appear on the screen before it hanged. I think that either mup.sys is the problem or the file that loads after mup.sys So I disabled mup.sys with the disable mup command. This didn;t solve the problem. I have installed XPSP2 with the same image manually just with the winnt.sif file removed. I had no problems. I'm stuck for ideas because I don't any strange hardware. the original setup did use a seperate kernel but i removed that with the same problem. Any Ideas?
