Thanks for the information all. I had mentioned to them to buy a nice little router Marsden. I'm behind a Netgear MR814v2 myself, and I sleep better at night because of it (I'm using lots of P2P). But, this isn't my system. It's my in-laws. And for us married guys, most in-laws want a gold system/protection....while spending lead to get it. Hence why the son-in-law is doing the work, instead of the guy they bought it from. Anyhow, I went with this solution .. http://www.raspppoe.com/ Works great. Solved the problem. Thanks prathapm. I'll give it a try. And they're using a Speedstream 5400 (Efficient Networks) as their bridge/router now Marsden. It's always connected to the internet. It's just that stupid dialer that's provided by ISPS that has to be activated (to serve a dynamic IP). You know the problem, is that everytime the system boots up...there's a 1 to 2 minute delay as Nortons and other programs that automatically connect to the internet go out searching for updates. Problem is, no ip, no connection, no updates. So, the system hangs slightly, until the program times out, and then loads the rest of the desktop. It's a pain. If I could get it to dial in without having to click on the stupid DUN it would be great. I've explained to them it isn't as secure to have their system always connected (they're running the default firewall from MS, so let it be on their heads), but they want it connected, so I'm trying my best to see what I can do. Farking DSL is a pain.

I tried putting the shortcut in the start up menu. But, I didn't try the autoconnect...(at least I can't remember if I did or didn't). I will check though. I'm going to take whatever anyone puts as a suggestion, and print it out. That way I'll have a list of "tries". Again, thanks for the help in advance. Might seem like an easy problem (for anyone reading this) but I can't get it to autoconnect, and it's driving me crazy.

Ok. I'm having a problem. I recently switched from cable to dsl, and I'd like dsl to connect automatically when I log in. I've tried these two solutions 1) In Control Panel open "Network Connections" 2) Right click on your broadband connection icon and select "Properties" 3) Uncheck "Prompt for name and password..." 4) Click "OK" 5) Open your "C:/Documents and settings" folder 6) Open the "All Users" folder 7) Open the "Start Menu" folder 8) Open the "Programs" folder 9) Go to your Programs Folder -> Startup 9) Copy a short-cut of your Broadband Connection, from the Network Connections folder in to the "Startup" folder If that does not work for you, try this: Create a shortcut for your Broadband Connection, place it on your desktop Go to Start Menu -> "Programs" -> "System Tools" -> "Scheduled Tasks" Double click "Add Scheduled Task" Click "Next" Click "Browse" -> browse to the shortcut you had placed on your desktop -> Select it -> Click "Open" Click "When my computer starts" Click "Next" Enter the Username and password for the administrator on your PC, if you do not use passwords to log in, leave it blank -> Click "Next" Click "Finish" but, I still can't it to connect automatically. I have to either click on the browser, or click on the broadband connector. Seems to me there's a way to do this with RAS but I can't remember. Any helps appreciated. Skinner

So, dumb question but how is this patch any different than the one previously released here and at http://www.lvllord.de/index2.htm I'm confused.

It's just a guess, is this related to the TCP issue of 127.0.0.1 loopback that's being addressed in the MS patch http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...%5bLN%5d;884020 or is this something else? Just a guess, but what are the permissions on the folder r/w/d etc? Who are you logged in as, and do they have admin priviliges.
