What are the advantages/disadvantages of removing drivers completely..? Opposite situation: is it possible to add all the driverpacks into driver.cab? I'm not talking about installing drivers during XP installation but later. Let's say that a friend wants to test his video or sound card into my computer and I want Windows to automatically found and install the drivers without searching on Internet. If it is possible, what are the advantages/disadvantages..? I know that in text mode setup it will take a long time to copy but Windows will be too slow...? I'm just curious, not planning to do this now...

I tried and it seems to be working. But now I have another problem: I'm not prompted to repair previous installation or to format...
-
It should of worked but it didn't... Not a change...

One of the 3 versions that I make has only updates and serial number included. The problem is that during setup it doesn't ask about Regional and language options. How can I make it show the window...? I attached Last session and winnt.sif. Configuration files.zip

Sorry, it didn't work. Oh, I found another thread about that and a explanation why isn't working: Don't worry, it's not a big problem. Thank you very much for these suggestions.

I tried 3 times with these: REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v StartButtonBalloonTip /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f "REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v StartButtonBalloonTip /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f" Command1="REG ADD "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced" /v StartButtonBalloonTip /t REG_DWORD /d 2 /f" Every time I get the message "...error at line 70 in I386\winnt.sif..." right before text mode setup was about to start. I was careful with word wrap in your message, so it's not from that...

Thank you for your reply. Ok, I will download and install Anti Virus software but I don't understand WHY is deactivating like that... Regarding drivers: of course I searched on Google and found nothing useful.

I tried, it does not work...

Hi. Currently I'm testing Windows 7 x64. I noticed some problems. The Action Center displayes this: First message it says that Windows Defender is turned off. I didn't turn it off and I don't have installed another program that could do this + it happened before a few times. Every time I click on "Turn on now". Sometimes it's working. I can't find drivers for my TVTuner (it's old): Kworld Xpert BT878 RF. I have a 100% working driver for XP x86 but I can't "convince" it to work in 7 x64 using compatibility mode. I right click on exe file, choose Troubleshoot compatibility and I see this: I tried with many other exe files, same problem. Anyway, I tried to set manually the compatibility in Properties >> Compatibility. Didn't work. Btw, I have tried to find drivers in many ways: driverpacks, vendor site, DriverMax... Can anyone please help me...? Best regards, Cosmin3

A few weeks ago I was talking about something similar in the same thread and I said that it works to find %source% if it's on CD but sometimes I use an USB stick and installation files are not in root, so %source% has no use.
-
I know I can do this but I was trying to make the installation as unattended as possible + without files copied from XP CD to Windows drive (automatically or manually).
-
Maybe it can but this is not the problem. The problem is that it has no effect if added during T-n. How I did: I converted the reg file into an exe file, with exe file I made an addon. The addon I used it in nlite. The registry settings are added during T-12..13. After install I see the hint; I run regedit and check that location - there is no StartButtonBalloonTip. If I go on XP CD and I run \I386\SVCPACK\Tweaks.exe I see StartButtonBalloonTip in registry.
-
Thank you. Unfortunately it doesn't work as an addon (like the other tweaks). But it's not a big problem...
-
Oh, is there any way to disable that hint "Click on the start button.." that appears right after install?
-
Ok, thanks anyway. Thank you, but it's about the XP CD (installation files).

I'm back I have set Automatic Updates to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them". When I install, in oobe is asking me to enable Automatic updates, which is pointless. How can I set it not to ask this, but keeping oobe...?

Thank you.

The KB976902 update is very strange. If I integrate it into Windows 7 installation files with rt7lite, after installation Windows update is saying that I have to download more than 50 updates (they are less than 10 without KB976902). I checked and most of them are already included in installation files. I lost a few hours with it (rt7lite takes about 3 hours every time). Why is it doing that...?

problem implementing tweaks
Cosmin3 replied to Cosmin3's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Like I said, adding those registry settings in RunOnce works. But there is a small problem: I have to restart Windows so it can "see" these changes 100%. Is there any way to "notify" Windows about this so it can "see" them without restarting...? Just like when you click OK on that "Text services and input languages" window... -
Hi. Normally when I install Windows 7 Windows Update is set to "Install updates automatically (recommended)". How can I set it (in installation files) to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them"? Thank you in advance for any reply. Best regards, Cosmin3.

I just test it in a Windows 7 x64 Ultimate and it doesn't have this problem Curious... Anyway, I have another question about PPPoE: in Windows XP when I connect to my ISP I can see a separate icon in tray + those "monitors" are blinking when sending and/or receiving data. In Windows 7 I have only one icon and one "monitor" for all connections + it's not blinking when sending/receiving data. How can I set a separate icon and/or how can I set it to "blink" ? Thank you.
