  1. Yes, GeeXboX is what i'm looking for, i'll throw it on a partition, duel boot and see how it goes. Thanks.
  2. I have a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop and i would like to make an 'Instant on' media player. Can this be done? Is there an OS out there that i can configure a dual boot PC that will boot into a media player, mainly just to listen to my music?
  3. I'm dissapointed with media centre 2005 and dont want to install it anymore, if i remove it from the cmponents folder and install as per usual will it produce errors in the install or will it go along just fine? BUT i do want to install media player 10-is it part of the windows install or the media centre part?
  4. Dont get offended, but do you have a valid MCE2005 Key? if not it will just install XP
  5. Do you have the 'cmpnents' folder on your dvd which has your 'mediactr, netfx and tabletpc' folders within it?
  6. Dont worry, I fixed it with Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom] "AutoRun"=dword:0000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "allocatecdroms"="0" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000
  7. Try this Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom] "AutoRun"=dword:0000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon] "allocatecdroms"="0" [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000091 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoSaveSettings"=dword:00000000 It worked for me-Woo Hoo...
  8. This is the same problem I'm having with my no autoplay issue as well. I have noticed the same within tweak UI that autoplay is enabled, but if I use Nero info tool, it shows that autoplay is disabled. ????So how do we turn it back on????
  9. I've run these reg keys- [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoCDBurning"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer] "NoCDBurning"=dword:00000001 and have a problem and I'm wondering if it relates to these. Within Windows media player 10, when I'm ripping CD's and its finished and i insert a new CD to rip again, it wont refresh the CD (I have to close WMP and restart to get the new CD recognised) I'm wondering if the inabillity to refresh is caused by the two imported keys? if so can I reverse these, if not what might be the problem??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  10. Cool, what about the unattended stuff now. Anyone ? I would think it will work, but I'd like to confirm. Thanks
  11. 1, Can MCE 2005 have all the same unattended switches and stuff as my current XP DVD disk ? 2, How do I put the cab files for MCE that are on disk 2 onto a DVD with all my other software install folders so that it wont need to find the 2nd install disk ? All help will be greatly appreciated.
  12. Can someone please confirm, In regards to the Computer name that is automatically generated at install, will it be exactly the same the next time a fresh install is done? I ask this in reference to the files that are copied over for pre activation Of course the pre activated files are only valid for your machine ! So with that in mind will I have to instruct my computer to have a set name or will it automatically generate the same name next time?
  13. Can someone please confirm, In regards to the Computer name that is automatically generated at install, will it be exactly the same the next time a fresh install is done? I ask this in reference to the NAV2005 in the App Switches Forum post where file are copied over for pre activation Of course the pre activated files are only valid for your machine ! So with that in mind will I have to instruct my computer to have a set name or will it automatically generate the same name next time?
  14. Well, I think this might be the easiest solution to this dont you think? That might be what is meant by overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation The .iss file might be the implementation
  15. Please Clarify for me - If I create an setup.iss file will it be only usefull to me on my computer? or will it be good for any PC I choose to install on?
  16. Funny name eh, I'll give you 10 brownie points if you can guess what it means.
  17. Nope, I still get - "To run a silent install you must either specify or overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation. What do you think it means by providing your own implementation?
  18. No-wait, I dont have it installed, its a bit of a glitch within my add/remove programs list (Its showing its installed but its not) I'm currently downloading, I'll get back to you in a few ticks.
  19. Hmmmm, I have the .NET Framework 1.1 installed allready on XP SP2
  20. I'm still getting this message running the /QB switch 'To run a silent install you must either specify or overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation. This setup will now end."
  21. 22. Using "/S /v/qb" just does the initial attempted start up, but fails with no dialogue box. Using "/A" I now have an AIP-woo hoo. Am I correct in my assumption that your thinking is that now the setup.exe is out of the equation I can now run commands straight throught the Norton PartitionMagic.msi ?
  23. While I've been waiting I thought i'd have a bit of a fiddle, I have tried bypassing the setup.exe and going to the Norton PartitionMagic.msi using this syntax @echo off title TEST, TEST echo. echo Norton Partition Magic ECHO Please wait... start /wait msiexec.exe /i "D:\XPCD\Software\NortonPartitionMagic\Setup\Norton PartitionMagic.msi" /quiet /qb EXIT and I get this message pop up-'To run a silent install you must either specify or overide this event (OnMsiSilentInstall()) and provide your own implementation. This setup will now end." Anybody have an idea where to go with this???
  24. Still waiting for Symantec's reply, they first came back with a quick half arsed solution, so i gave them more info and they seem to be a bit stumped now. I'll keep you posted
  25. I've just emailed Symantec about this issue, so maybe they might be able to help. I'll post the results
