  1. Hey, all. Can you define what is slow in terms of speed ranges.

I have a 54 Mbps router and the speed I get for transferring shared files from desktop to laptop is around 1 - 1.5 MB per second. Which is sufficient for me for network speeds. If I use an NAS, if I can get that speed, that would be sufficient. Are NAS's slower than that?

If the NAS has dual interface, like USB also, then I can just use the USB interface for faster speeds from desktop. But from laptop, the low speeds are fine.

  2. Hello, I have a samsung SH-S183L lightscribe burner that still works. It burns CDs and DVDs okay but it's been a while since I've used the lightscribe function.

Well, today is the first time I was trying print a lightscribe DVD after having intalled Windows 7 RC but I keep getting an error "A communication error occurs while reading the lightscribe ..... you may need to restart your computer." I'm using surething cd/dvd labeler.

Well, I restarted and no go.

I downloaded the latest lightscribe software that is Windows 7 compatible and still no go.

I updated my drives firmware to the latest and still no go.

I downloaded the lightscribe diagnostic utility and ran it. It detects my lightscribe drive but not the media. I've tried putting the media in right-side up and upside down and yet still not detected. I've never had an issue with the Verbatim media before without a problem; it's still the same box. I put another one in (blank one) and still not detected. I think it's the driver problem or something.

Anyone have any idea regarding this issue?

  3. My sister booked an internation flight for my parents through CheapTickets.com. I've never booked an international flight before and was wondering if anyone else has done so and it a good idea?? If so, where did you fly to.

I just worry because there is no paper ticket. Site says to take the confirmation printout to the airport.

    Your thoughts.

  4. It's real easy to blame an "incident" as a cause for a drug addiction. In the end, we are responsible for the decisions we make. If after the recovery, Jackson continued to use pills, he is responsible for his own fate.

  5. humm, that's strange. i'm using ad-blocker, no-script, xmarks, and a bunch of others i can't remember.

however, at work i got some garbled lines like that even though i wasn't running no-script.

it has to be an extension; i'll have to figure out which one. but as far as i know, i'm not running an extension that has effects on the rendering!!

  6. the user who made the codec is hosting them elsewhere. the codecs do not harm the system at all; the reason we can't host there here is for legal reasons because he may be using files in his codec pack that might be copyrighted by companies.

you could use those codec as long as you want but be forwarned of any legalities, if any. there are other codec pack out there. i particularly don't like the vista codec pack even though the author claims they are much better.

there's k-lite and combine community codec pack if you want alternate. if you want to stick with his, search for vista codec pack and you should find updated versions.

  7. vista detects the files shared by the homegroup (not as a "homegroup" per say as in win 7 but as a media streaming device).

homegroups adds a layer of security as far as i can see with one password that allows access to those files and printer. no other computer can access this group with that password. however, only your music, documents, videos, and picture can be shared. other folders cannot be shared.

to share other folders, you need to disable the homegroup password security and enable user accounts and password.

  8. well try not disabling homegroups but change the advanced options to use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers rather than allowing homegroups to manage connections.

that was the problem for me for shared folders (not admin shares); but that may work.

  9. Do you have only Norton Antivirus or do you have the internet security as well (with the firewall). If you disable the firewall, it could have locked down some of the apps from running.

Instead of opening word by double-clicking on a word file, does word open when you click on it's shortcut?

Have you tried navigating to the office folder and double clicking on winword.exe to see if it opens that way?

  10. I will give it more time before I disable it and return to my loved True Launch Bar.

I haven't used True Launch Bar in months. I quit after Windows 7 allowed pinning programs to taskbar.

Let me know if it still works as smoothly as it used to.

i like the wallpaper actually, its simple , just the way i like things.. STOP Hating on my Wallpaper .. LOL

I don't hate you for your wallpaper. Just seems counterintuitive to support apple (if not the company, the logo), but use windows 7, then complain about windows 7 gui.

  11. Again, you can switch that off as I have done. Right click on taskbar and go to Properties. Then activate "Combine when taskbar full" and it will display the full taskbar button with text.
